I really like the art and music and the weapon mechanic. Nice fun game

Glad you had fun. ^_^ Thanks for playing!

Love how you kept color theme throughout.  Its something I can use to improve mine.

Please check out my duck game when you have a chance.

The art is absolutely amazing—really, just super, super impressive. The steampunk theme and narrative are also incredibly well done. That’s just perfect work right there.

The music is really nice, though it’s a bit of a shame that the SFX isn’t on the same level, as it slightly breaks the immersion. The bosses seem very cool, but I did encounter one big issue: the balancing. Spamming the basic attack seems to be by far the most effective way to defeat them without it taking too long, while other attacks and spells feel much harder to use.

Congratulations—this is great work!

Thank you for your input! It's the best way to improve our project. I have plans to learn FMOD implementation to make the programmers' jobs a little easier and hopefully balance the music and sfx together. And we'll be working on balancing and nerfing that darn overpowered punch haha.

This game is amazing!!! I loved all of it, the bosses, the visuals, the music. The lore of this game is very interesting and makes me want to read all of it, the bosses have incredible design, this is truly wonderful! I made it through the end and it was very fun.

Now with the downsides.

As the other comments say, the bosses are too easy. I literally just spammed one attack to beat all the bosses. Also the player has a lot of health which makes the attack spamming way easier.

The attacks I think are a bit unbalanced, it was easy for me to beat all of the bosses with just one attack available and without needing the other attacks.

In the 3rd boss fight, the game becomes very lagged when the marionette makes some attacks.

The music is way louder than the sfx so you can't hear much of it.

Apart from that, the game is very good, even though the bosses were easy that's better than very difficult bosses because I could make it to end. This game truly has potential and I enjoyed all of it. This is so far my top choice for this jam.

Developer

Thank you for the sincere comment! Much appreciated.

There's definitely some work to do both with balancing difficulty and balancing sound heheh. There's plenty more lore created, but it has yet to be added into the game. Right now, it's all just sitting in a google doc. Also yes! We'll need to figure out a way to prevent the lag during the marionette's attack. The lag at that part is very disorienting.

Thanks again! I'm glad you enjoyed our game!

Liked the unique art style and animation not many entries are on this level. The lore scenes are also a nice touch.

It is a bit unfortunate the music kills the sfx as this takes away a bit of immersion but I am sure you will fix this ASAP.

Well done, looking forward to a post-jam version.

Very pretty game and I love that you found the time to craft a story for the game as well! Choosing between different abilities during combat was an interesting idea, though sadly I didn't find it too necessary to switch from the basic melee attack since nothing really prevented the player from spamming it and taking the boss down that way. I did at least try all of them to see what they did and felt like and I really liked the variance in combat styles they offered.

The boss design looks cool, but since the player has a lot of health, I can just stay near the boss and spam my attack which made it a lot easier

Submitted(+2)

This looks interesting and has some story elements.

Bosses however, were a bit underwhelming. I beat them all with just basic punches. Other weapons seemed to take too long to get going.

I'm impressed by the pixel art and animation! The attack switching could have been assigned to a different input key, somewhere closer to the attack key itself. Also I don't see the theme being implemented too much, but it's still fun!

Submitted(+1)

The visuals are nice, but the theme is completely missing. If you replaced the ability wheel with a list, nothing would change. Aside from the basic attack, everything else feels useless because the bosses are too fast.

Submitted(+2)

Love the steampunk theme and art! I think that the bosses are a bit too easy

Very satisfying attack animation! I really enjoyed the attack patterns of the bosses as well. Beautiful pixel art as well. Great work! Only point of feedback if you're looking for any, is it was sometimes unclear where the walls of the map were.

Would love for you to check out our game as well! Cheers.

Thanks for your feedback! I agree about the collision detection. Something we'll have to work on next.

Pretty dope game my dudes

The game is fun, I feel the bosses could of have been a little harder because all I had to do is spam one attack and it was over, the wheel to me feels kinda useless because I mainly used the slash attack and sometimes the overload or the gear throw, but the idea is neat. The game would also benefit from some more SFX, I don't hear my attacks nor the bosses attacks, and my only indication of me taking damage is my healthbar.

Besides that, I love the arstyle of this game, love that industrial/steampunk-like look it has and specially that organ music track.

Developer(+2)

Yeah we have some major balancing to do. we had to make the game playable, before the bosses were too hard, hence the OP melee. I believe if you turn down the music you can hear the SFX.

The visuals are incredible, the bosses are fun, but feel a bit too easy to just walk up to and spam attack without suffering any meaningful consequence. it feels like the visuals took priority over the main game mechanics, but other then than it was fun to blitz through the bosses.

Thanks for the feedback! Balancing the combat is at the top of our checklist for things to work on after the jam.

Wow what a stunning game, the art and world are absolutely beautiful great job team!!! The music is lovely and adds a lot to the tone of the game, the color palatte is a perfect fit and pulls everything together, the boss designs are excellent. All the little attention to detail is amazing; from all the different player attack animations to the spinning marionette icon next to the text box during her introduction to the very well polished main menu. The game has tons of juice and the world is oozing w/ spin with all the layered gears and clock arms littered throughout the level. The world is a joy to explore.

Now for some criticisms. There were some general bugs in my playthrough: one where the game lagged hard when spawning into the marionette boss room, one with the 4th boss getting stuck on a wall, and another where after beating the 4th boss it sent me straight to the title screen. If going directly to the title screen after beating the last boss was not a bug, then it would have been nice to have a more epic ending after doing so much work to build up the intensity of the world earlier on. My biggest critique comes with the combat. The player has 4 different attacks, each with a different theoretical purpose and each with a kick ass animation. The only attack I found viable was the melee one. The varying cooldowns for different attacks was a good one in theory, but in practice it made it impossible to land on the bosses. The bosses move around so quickly that by the time you get the attack out it is too late and you whiff or take damage instead. This coupled with only being able to aim in 8 directions makes it very frustrating to try and land any of the 3 ranged attacks, which is a shame because they are so damn cool looking. If I tried to play "fairly" and swap around with my different attacks I found it near-impossible to beat the bosses, but if spamming melee attacks and cheesing the bosses a bit, then combat became exceptionally easy. There were also elements that I wish had been fleshed out a bit more and served more of a purpose in the gameplay such as the moving treadmills in the intro scene and the coins (?) you collect in the beginning.

Overall, I think this is an absolutely beautiful entry, with music, art and boss designs that fit together seamlessly to create a world with a very real sense of identity. I think finding a bit better balance in the combat and boss attack sequences would have helped take it to the next level. With all that being said, an excellent entry, great job everyone!!

I appreciate the amount of detail in this feedback.

There's definitely still lots to work on when it comes to balancing the fights, especially when it comes to the op melee attack. And funny enough, we had plans to use certain things you mentioned such as the conveyor belts in fights, but the time crunch hit us pretty suddenly. Also the little coins are supposed to heal you, so I understand why you were confused after seeing them in the beginning area with no bosses or ways to lose hp. There's still lots to explore and work on, but either way I'm glad you enjoyed the game! Thank you!
