nice theme and controls, but little bit hard to hit boss with vert\horizontal attacks

Very impressive art style and a keen eye for details, oh and I love the music, very fitting! Cool boss design even though I didnt manage to kill the Robot Boss as I had trouble hitting him with the range attacks. I had some success with melee but as hes moving a lot, I couldn’t spank him in time - I’ll have to give it another shot tho.

I would loved to have some visual or sound feedback for hitting him or get hit.

But overall a nice game and very cool graphics! A Job well done!

This game is impressive! It's so polished it's practically a complete game. Congrats on the submission and on your take on the theme

Submitted(+2)

Be careful when choosing the colors of the character because sometimes it can be confused with the background. The boss fight was a lot of fun and the game feels great. I congratulate you for the great game you have made.  ❤🌻

I liked the art style and music of your game!! I'm a big fan of steampunk as well
it took me a while to get used to the bosses but the gameplay was fun!
Nice work!!

It looks really cool !

Music is great too, good job.

nice graphics. very interesting atmosphere. the little robot is very nice. among the bosses I preferred the first 2. if the dancer had done more damage it would have been impossible because the attacks were too close together. the last boss is practically inconsistent (I stuck to it by spamming the scratch and he died). the cute worm was reminiscent of the one from Zelda 3.

ost perhaps too similar to that of blasphemous 2

Wow! That was amazing. Well-polished game and the graphics are lovely. Good job you team.

The boss fights need improvement, as the theme is not clear. I managed to finish the boss very easily without much effort, and the bosses lack unique features. They need more variety. However, the music and art are fantastic. Well done!

Great use of the theme, and very fun. I love steampunk in general so this was so beautiful to me. The music was great, and the controls were simple. Great job!!

Like most of the comments are saying, the visuals are AMAZING! gameplay on the just feels lack luster? (idk the other comments explain it better than I ever)

(PS: If you're willing to I'd love it if you can rate and leave some feedback on my game. I know I didn't really give feedback, but I'd love it if you took the time too! This is my first ever jam and I'd love to see where I can improve for the future!)

The presentation is the stronggest part of the game, but the gameplay feels lacking polish. As some players have mentioned, the melee was an extremely powerful weapon, and all the other weapons feel way too weak to use.

All I did was run up to each boss and smack them with the melee and breezed through all the bosses.

Music and art is top-tier but I find myself occasionally confused which part of the map is a wall, and which part is a floor sometimes.

Developer

I'm noticing with each comment that these two issues are brought up the most. We'll definitely be looking into balancing the fights and making the wall collisions more accurate. Thank you for your feedback!

This is a very, very good looking game. The animations of the player and the bosses were great, and I also loved the boss arena with the gears. Additionally, that fire attack that was alike a laser beam was satisfying to use and I really liked how one of the bosses had multiple segments to attack.

Some feedback that I would give is that the melee is just too good of a weapon. At first I was afraid to use the melee, but when I used it, I realized that the bosses would be gone in like 10 seconds or less. Additionally, I would say more SFX or clear SFX would massively improve this game, because it would give tons of good player feedback.

In any case, you guys did a great job on the game, and it’s clear how hard you guys worked on this!

Developer(+1)

You're totally right about the melee attack. We'll need to find new and creative ways to encourage using other moves. Thanks for the feedback!

really fun and polished game! loved the clockwork style you did for this and the gameplay and bosses were all well centered around that as well. enjoyed playing through it and wish there was more to explore!

This game definitely has my favorite visuals, the monochromatic scenes just have something so charming about them, and the characters/bosses have really cool animations, especially the melee for the player, it just feels so satisfying. The story was also pretty nice too, and the music fit incredibly well. My only criticisms is that I can't really tell what I can walk on and what I can't , I'll be chasing the boss (because I really like the melee) and suddenly hit a wall and have to find my way around it.

Also, I don't blame you because it's somewhat uncommon, but there is a glitch for higher screen ratios where the people who speak never disappear, it doesn't show up during gameplay, but when I return to dialogue I can tell there are about 5 people layered on top of each other.

Overall, this game has a lot of charm and I really like it, good job!

Developer

Thank you for the input. I've noticed a lot of issues with the wall collisions. Definitely something we'd need to focus more on to make a more immersive and feel-good experience for the players.

Great game!

Absolutely everything is at a good level. Graphics, soundtracks, bosses. This is a great job within the jam!

The only downside I would like to highlight is that the bosses are too easy (if that’s what you wanted to do), and the player himself has too much HP, which is why I could just stand and hit sometimes, and the bosses rarely went beyond the limits, but that didn’t stop me from going through them all and enjoying the game!

During the game itself, there was a slight lack of some kind of visual accompaniment during the dash, as well as the sounds of the attack itself, because of course it’s rare, but I didn’t understand whether the boss was attacking or not.

All in all, this is a very good game, well done!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the comment! We're looking into making bosses more difficult without making them impossible, and nerfing that punch might be the way.

Also I didn't even think about the missing/unnoticeable dash animation until you brought it up. Another things for the list. Thank you!

I really enjoyed the boss fights. Good job making each one unique!

Fun game and looks great! There are some balancing issues though, there's really not much stopping you from just destroying the bosses with melee, and the ranged attacks either don't do good damage, don't have good range, or take too long to charge to be viable. Good game overall though!

Submitted(+2)

Awesome looking and sounding game! I found that if I spammed the melee attack that the bosses couldn't do much and got ruined, but I really loved the aesthetic!

Just making sure... is the Creator the final boss? I reached a room with a computer without any way to progress further (unless I missed sth)

This is obviously a high effort submission; the musics are rad, and the bosses are all so unique. Very awesome submission!

Some critiques however:

  • May want to put the list of controls somewhere in game. Although I knew for sure I should be able to use the other three attacks at the bottom right, in the end I didn't figure it out until after I defeated the Creator.
  • Well the fact that it is so easy to defeat all of the bosses with just the basic attacks say something about the balance... although I do prefer easier games :3
  • The third boss Marionette was so, so laggy! D:

Developer(+3)

Hey, thanks for playing and the helpful feedback!

The Great Creator is indeed the final boss. I believe the idea was originally for the player to walk up to the computer after defeating him and have the credits roll, but unfortunately some last-minute changes and git problems led to us losing the credits scene and re-using the clock elevator in the starting room as the exit trigger (I'm assuming it didn't break for you somehow). It just takes you straight to the main menu though, so you didn't miss anything there.

The controls are shown in the settings screen and on the Itch page, but showing them in-game like in the starting room before the first boss level would probably be a good idea.

We made some late balance changes to try to prevent the bosses being too hard, but that ended up backfiring a bit because we didn't have time to playtest them properly. Definitely something we want to address in a post-jam release.

And yeah we need to look into optimizing/reworking the Marionette attacks haha. We used an asset to draw the pixellated string attacks and didn't have time to change it after realising the performance issues.  Enabling hardware acceleration in your browser might help though, if you hadn't already.
