Very great use of the theme! I loved the game a lot.

You can see my entire reaction and review on stream:

Oh my god, thank you so much for playing our game and giving us all the praise in your stream! This is actually the first time I see someone else play it and comment on it live, and the feeling is just amazing. It is our first game we ever finished, and to see you like it so much really makes me happy. Thank you, again, really! You made my day.

Nice use of theme! I got the grandpa killed by high flying dentures 😆 but I managed to make him live a rather normal, meaningless life. Funny game and nice death animation at the end.
Though the attack could be a bit more instant and the rewind items to spawn more frequently.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I'm really happy that you could accomplish to get a "rather normal, meaningless life", because this is rank 2 of the score and not many people could get so high, so I feared the game would be too hard. I'm impressed :)

Submitted(+1)

It was hard, I will admit. But I found a technique which was to wait for the enemy to attack, then strike them, then do a quick back step. Only weakness of it though was the enemy projectiles, they're too fast to dodge 😆

Really amazing character animations! Great job and fun game :D

Submitted(+1)

I love the animation and characters, the idea is interesting and the game gets interesting while trying to get more and more points. Nice game!

Stunning visuals and sounds! well done on that. The certainly feels polished, although some gameplay elements could be a improved a little bit. Over all a great game :D Hope you try mine too https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/722968

The art and animations here are phenomenal for a week long jam. The sound design's great, and the enemies are nicely balanced.

If I had to give a criticism it would be that I'm not sure slowing down the players movement as they age is the best approach. It makes logical sense, however it pushes the game to be harder the worse somebody is doing, which might not be how you want the difficulty curve to play out.

Overall excellent job!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!
Actually, the player only gets slower in phase 3, when he's old, but the enemies also get slower, and everyone attacks slower. I actually thought this would make the phase easier so you could get up into phase 2 again, because you would have more time reacting, but I suppose the opposite happened. Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I really like the graphics, the end scene was masterfully done :)

Submitted(+2)

i absolutely adore the art, one of my favorite games from this jam.

Developer

I'm really happy you enjoyed the visuals!

I spent many long nights drawing and animating all these different images, so I'm glad the hard work paid off.  ^^

Neat reminds me of old flash games, got 1150 in score, would be fun to know your score

Game Design: 4/5 neat and unique

Fun: 3/5 the fighting was a bit off, good for 7 days though

Innovation: 5/5

Theme: 4/5

Graphics: 5/5, flash astethic

Audio: 5/5 it wasn't annoying or in the way, pleasent to listen to

Developer

Thank you for the nice comment and the rating! :D I am impressed by your score, most people that playtested didn't get as high, which made me afraid a little that the game could be too hard. From 1000 in score rank 2 starts. I usually get around 2100 in score, but I mean, I'm the developer. Somehow I brainfarted one time though, when determining the score for rank 3, and made it from 3500 upwards, because I got 3800 that time. Maybe I was super lucky, because I couldn't reach that score ever since. When the jam is over, I will put it to 2000 or something like that. Thanks for the feedback!

What I liked about the game:

  • The message it delivers , you age more if your stressed
  • Character has great animations , along with the enemies
  • Shows Different life problems at different age
  • Also the changing priorities as you age and what gives you happiness
  • Music fits the game, also enjoyed how it slowed down as you aged
  • Dead Screen is funny and mocks player to play again, the bell clangs is a hilarious addition
  • I loved kicking bullies asses also fighting gull bladders was fun and unique experience xD

Improvements

  • A  pause button would be a great addition
  • Reward items gets stuck if you kill enemies outside the screen

Bugs

  • I couldn't find any , well done bro!

This is definitely in my top 5 games, I have played soo far. I'm impressed you managed to make it this good, also you bought a sound pack which was a good investment as well and shows how much dedication you put into the game. Your game is 5/5 no doubt. Add me on Discord if you wish "invalid#8392".

Developer(+1)

Your comment really blew me away, thank you so much! You catched so many things we put in the game, that no one else mentioned yet. That you think the game is a 5/5 fills me and my friend with joy. Thanks a bunch, you made my day <3

No problem, I had a bunch more things I could write but I didn't want to write an essay here. Thank you as well for the wholesome, slice of life game. I really love playing these types of games with a message I can apply to real life. You and your friend are awesome bros for making this game.

The presentation is perfect.
I like the take on the theme. The design is good, since the game has a natural evolution and difficulty curve and it doesn't get boring, and the switches between the ages are nice since they maintain the same position of the enemies.
If I had ti criticize something, maybe the lack of content (few enemy types and two types of attack) but this is a game jam so it's understandable.
It was an awesome job, well done!

Developer

Thank you so much for the great feedback! I am happy to hear you like the presentation, I really spent a lot of time on making everything feel right. I'm also glad you mentioned natural evolution, I tried to make every aspect in the game get harder over time. In terms of enemy types, yes, that's certainly something we could enhance, however my friend who made all the art already was dying inside and sitting late at night making all the different enemy sprites and animations, so this sadly wasn't possible.
Thanks again for the detailed comment!

Wow this game is just plain awesome! Graphics are stunning and the mechanics are polished and engaging. Love how the items that rewind you change based on age and the enemies are fun to fight. Only minor criticism I have is the colliders for certain objects are a little confusing, but otherwise outstanding job!

Developer

Thank you very much! If you don't mind me asking, which colliders do you mean specificly? Then we could change that after the jam.

Submitted(+1)

Mainly the object on the right, its a bush then boxes then table in the third phase. Enemies kept standing next to it but the projectiles would still hit the object when aiming at me.

Developer

Oh, yes, that's actually something we noticed. We would have to calculate if the enemy has a straight line to the player with no obstacles and then let him make some kind of side step, but that would be way too complicated to complete in one week and we thought it might break some other stuff, so we didn't implement it. Thanks for the feedback though, really! I'll look if I can fix that after the jam :)

Submitted(+1)

I really liked your game! The art ist pretty to look and the gameplay is a lot of fun! Great job!

Submitted(+1)

Liked the game. It's fairly polished and it has a good feel. Kept me engaged. Good job :)

Submitted(+1)

Great game friend! I loved the art and the gameplay is kind of repetitive but I guess the main thing here is the message behind it! Really well made, great concept! I loved it!

Hey, try my game too if you want. Rate it as well!

Submitted(+1)

Great idea on the theme! I liked the visuals too, made me feel very comfortable in this place. Nice touch in the tutorial.

Developer(+1)

Hi, I suppose you mean the starting screen instructions? Thank you, I really invested much time on that part and am happy to hear that you liked it :D

Submitted(+1)

Damn! The movement is soo nice and the combat is too. The graphics were also good. It was fun, and I really like the different enemies/movement speed in different ages.

Developer

Thank you for the detailed comment, this means a lot to us!

Submitted(+1)

Great look, feel, and aesthetic. Stellar work.
