Excellent entry.

Really great polish on audio and visuals and super fun to play.

Was a bit challenging for me though!

Great game, well done!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it, there's definitely some balance issues so don't worry :)

Great 2D pixel art in a 3D world! Interesting defensive gameplay idea.

love itt! Maybe an upgrade which lets you restore some health from time to time would be nice, other than love it :D

Felt a little sorry for the villagers ^^

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it !

Definitely lacks some sustainability, a lot of people are pointing that out. Once the deadline is over, I'll have to get back to work eagerly :D

I had a great time playing this game, I really like the graphics and just curious how did you manage to come up with that cool art and which software did you use for it?

Developer(+1)

For the pixel art I use Aseprite like maybe 90% of people, it's a great tool that does cost some coins but nothing to fancy !

For the art, I like to go for different pixel art syles every JAM and pray the gods of luck to find something appealing. For this one I tried using the smallest amount of pixels per characters possible as I wanted to make the sprite more expressive in a way. This led to a major lack of freedom while animating obviously, so instead of drawing sprite animations I focused on squashing, them and adding meaningful SFX and VFX to make up for it. That's definitely what I like doing, challenge yourself, define constraints on different aspects of your game, and that's when you'll have to be the most creative. Ofc sometimes it does not work out, but when it does, you end up feeling so proud of yourself and in my case, you have a lot of players sticking around and you don't understand why hahaha !

ahahah thanks for that and for me mostly art is my weak point, and the design aspect. So is there a course or a youtube tutorial you can recommend to walking me through the basics. I know art is another aspect of study and its takes time to become better. Thanks for the advice I will try that on my next Jam/min project thanks : D

and I have been playing your game most of the day its amazing  and I liked the way the particles where moving towards the shrine/church I hope you can tell me how you achieved its kind of cool effect it made your game to stand out and the sfx where nice and matched the game well

Developer(+1)

I'm really happy to read that !

I feel you, art was and is to this day my weakest point. I mean of course today I'm finally able to produce something pretty, but there's definitely a long way to go still, I'm way more of a programer than anything else :)

For pixel art I believe that I followed this guy back in the days: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmac3HPrav-9UWt-ahViIZxpyQxJ2wPSH

However there's probably better playlists now, since it was 3 years ago.

For the soul effect, I'm spawning a soul where people die and programaticaly lerping its position towards the shrine according to a curve I setup, nothing really fancy hahaha

thank you for sharing that was good effects 😊 and thank you very much for the link hopefully I will be able to get something out it.

Great game. keep it up♥

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment !

I put a lot off effort into the movement animations as the player is bound to run around A LOT, so I'm glad you had fun !

I can tell that you put a lot of thought into the mechanics of this game. The gameplay is really engaging and it's clear that you're always thinking about ways to improve the experience for the player.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback :)

Fun game :). Wondered for a bit how to "attack" but soon worked out it was on auto.
Nice things with the blessings, offering different ways to upgrade.
Needed a way to fi up the Church though, couldn't heal it up.
Great job, well done.

Developer

Thanks, yeah definitely lacking a way to sustain the shrine, I'm working on it ;)

Game looks great, love the feel of the animations, audio's great, you did 2.5D fantastically.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, means a lot to me as this game is my first attempt at making a 2.5D game !

SUPER nice game!!! Love the mix with 2D and 3D, love the simplicity, very well done!!

Awesome work from the 2.5d to the day night cycle, playing this was great fun! My jam partner recommended playing this one and I was not disappointed. Great job!

Developer

This was a very polished game and only made in 72 hours. I'm impressed. Like one other person mentioned, the ally had a couple of moments where they seemed to off doing their own thing but overall it was a solid game. Sorry I couldn't give more feedback, I didn't have much time to play.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for taking the time to play AND leave a feedback, makes me really glad

Hey Mathieu Schmerber thanks for your submission I was really impressed initially by the art style, the animations and it's implementation, this accompanied by the different day and night soundtracks really helps set a tone. The fundamental theme of each day is a new beginning is a strong hit for the theme of the Jam. With the controls being pretty simple I could see this being a successful and intuitive mobile game.

Through my plays I didn't encounter any major bugs but found that the 'Holy Cow' (Ally)'s AI sometimes felt hit and miss i found on a few occasions he'd just run or chase something out of the map. I would also be interested to some more CC (Crowd Control) abilities added like a knockback/push and have an Endless Mode added.

Overall I think this was a very successful submission with a lot of polish, it would be interesting to see what you would do with more time spent, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for this more in depth feedback :)

Wow nice entry! It has a uniqueness to it while still something recognizable (the 2.5D aspect reminds me of paper mario, and the genre with waves was the genre I first tried to make a game around).
I loved the art, music, SFX and gameplay, really enjoyable!
And to be able to pull all that off and have it so well polished in 72 hours ... (!!!) Great job :)

(I was sooo close... ^^)

Thank you so much, really means a lot to me :)
