Very cool idea with the barrel perspective. Honestly don't have much to say, it's overall well executed and implemented, and the only point of critique I have is the strange control of the movement. But I understand why it is this way from your comments.

Wow I didn't expect to play in this perspective! Really cool, and you first and foremost have to get used to it. reminds me of a crossover from tempest 2000 and space harrier! Liked the conept and presentation :) Gave you a nice rating! If you like to check out our game too! :)

My highscore is 400790 before I accidentally press ESC and the game froze. I had 3 lives left at this point.

Anyway, I need rewire my brain because I’m not used to this kind of movement. But after I get a hang of it, this game become really fun! The game is challaging yet still possible to do. It also easy to get extra life if you play well.

In my opinion, the boss stages are easier than the normal waves. In the normal waves, the enemy bullets are small and have the same size with the star in the background. They do have a colorful light but still hard to see. On the other hand, in the boss stages the bullets are huge and easier to see.

The BGM sound familiar but I can’t put my finger on it.

Good job on the game!

Thank you for the very nice comments and for giving it the time. The background music is an electronica version of Bach's Toccata Fuge in D-minor (also used in the original arcade game Gyruss, but in a rock version).

The boss stages were supposed to be harder and more varied but I ran out of time unfortunately.

Maybe after the Jam

The web build was stuck as a grey rectangle for me, but I got the download to work just fine.

Really cool game! I like the perspective and the control concept of going around in a circle. I also had a little trouble going around 360 degrees though and got a little mixed up when my ship went upside-down. But the idea itself was fine, just a little tricky to control at times.

Loved the classical music remix as well, but it didn't really feel "spacey" to me so it didn't really help immerse me in the atmosphere, although it was 🔥🔥

Overall really interesting concept and well executed! You get a good perspective of the bullets coming at you, almost like a rhythm game where you are seeing up ahead of you. Nice work!

Thank You so much for the comments and for taking the time to play the game including trying to get hang of the odd controls! :D The music is also a homage to the music used in the original game (which is a rock version of Bach's Toccata Fuge in D-minor, I went the electronica-route instead), and I can agree that it is not as "spacey" as the game might call for.

For me, it's very hardcore, but I'm a casual gamer :) I liked the style, but I almost broke my keyboard, haha

Good job!

Thanks for some lovely comments, and for playing my game. It is a bit of fickery with the keys to get hang of the controls, but it shouldn't be to easy.

good job finishing the jam! nice graphics, nice audio! gameplay seemed cool, but the controls were weird once you turned halfway up... enemy and bullet patterns were good! great job!

Developer

Thanks for the nice words and for the comments. The controllers are working as they are supposed to (just as the original Gyruss arcade game works), but it seems like a lot of people find them too awkward. Personally I love them :)

I love this game. But there is a bug in the control when I play with the browser.

(1) The fighter moves anti-clockwise when pressing D and clockwise when pressing A.

(2) But it changes when the fighter is in the 9 o'clock position: it becomes anti-clockwise when pressing A and moves clockwise when pressing D.

Developer

Thanks for the comment, and for playing,  but at least for me the controls are working as they are supposed to. They mimic the contols in the 1983 arcade game. It is easier with a joystick, but it works like this:

A always move the fighter to the 9 o'clock position

D always move the fighter to the 3 o'clock position

W moves the fighter to 12 o'clock

D moves the fighter to 6 o'clock

Similarly A+W moves to 10.30, W+D to 1.30, D+S to 4.30 and S+A to 7.30.

So to move the ship around the clock (clockwise) you need to press A-W-D-S in order and time the switch to get it smooth.

I admit it is a bit un-ortodox but that's how it is supposed to work. In hindsight I should have added an option to have more ortodox controls.

This was quite fun, I love the 3d graphics!

I really liked the arcade feeling of the game and the nice 80's synth rendition of Toccata and Fuge :)

I would have preferred a slightly smoother movement pattern (it has a really hard stop at each axis) but that is of course just a matter of taste.

Great job

Thanks for playing and for the nice comments. The controls are un-ortodox but mimics the controls of the arcade game Gyruss which works the same way (albeit using a joystick that makes it essier). I should have added an option to have more ortodox controls.

I like the looks/lighting, I've never played Gyruss but I do have a feeling the controls make more sense with a joystick. I found it worked fine if I pushed the arrow keys as if I was following the ship which might feel more intuitive with a joystick than a keyboard. In general I'm terrible at any tube shooter, so I have little experience to compare to other similar style games.

Developer

Thanks for the comments and for your insight. The controls are really made for an old style 8-direction joystick, and works much smoother with one. That said, I think it is pretty easy to learn using the keys and also (in this case) part of the challenge for me to re-create the classic controls. In hindsight I should have added an option to have alternative controls.

Best graphics so far! Sounds are great. It would be much better if we could be able to move the ship smoothly. When I reach specific angles, I need to change the key to keep moving in the same direction, this was a bit annoying to be honest.

But overall great job.

Developer

Thanks for the comments and for playing.  As for the controls, they are made that way on purpose to be like the arcade game Gyruss which is the base for my game. And I like them 😀

This is a really good looking game, it gives me Tempest 2000 vibes, though without the grid. The graphics and music are great, but the controls could do with some work: going between the top part of the screen and the the bottom is not very clear as it stops at the half way point, and then pressing the other direction may or may not send you back the way you came: this was really an issue with the boss as I kept going back into the line of fire. This is a good entry, great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the comments. The controls are intentional to mimic the controls of the arcade game Gyruss that I based my game on.

This was a really cool game! I loved the way the ships fly in and out. The first boss was epic, really wanted to see the next one(s). Unfortunately i'm playing on a Mac and the ctrl + arrow keys scheme isn't too mac friendly, it causes the screen to switch to another desktop and the game also pauses. Hard to know that in advance, but just offering some feedback for the small audience on Macs like me. Great submission to the jam, nice work!!

Developer

Thanks for the comments and for playing. I will figure something out, I am totally Mac un-friendly so .. But I'll keep it in mind for the future.
