Hi, nice idea about the reflecting bullets!
I had a hard time go to the full-screen mode, and there's always some part of the screen is hiding..is there something I can do to make the game in full-screen?

Developer

Sorry, I made sure to try my best to disable full screen play as playing in full screen breaks the 'move in direction of mouse' mechanic. I'm not quite sure how, but it would cause the raycast I was using (to determine mouse position) to break.

Cool style and intro cut scene. A curious choice of control, not my style but at least it is original. A better balance would be nice, especially since the controls already kind of make it very difficult. But great game overall!

Submitted

Very cool game! I liked the gameplay and atmosphere. Also enjoyed how you used the theme. Nice work!

The gameplay has is own style, the fact the controls aren't "friendly" gives this game the right amount of challenge.

Audio and visuals give a gloomy atmoshpere which I like.

I didn't have the patience to kill enemies, even because I think it's too slow to kill them (aiming system, fire rate) so I just "speed run 'my' way through the hail of alien bullets" as you mentioned in the description.

All on all a solid entry, with a great initial cutscene. Great job!

P.S. Is that a loading screen between map transitions? I think in a game like that the load time is just too short, maybe you can force it to be longer?

Developer

Yep, it is a loading screen for when a new scene is loaded! - it is a shame it will be missed by most people who play as only those with really under-performing devices may be able to get a better look at it! You're right, a rebalancing would be needed to allow a more aggressive play style as right now the fire rate and damage to the enemies is too slow and low.

I thought the enemies were so kind for healing me but I guess I thought wrong because I died soon after.

Submitted(+1)

Good idea! But this game is too difficult for me.

(1) Moving is difficult. No problem for me, and I enjoyed it.

(2) Aiming is difficult. The bullets don't follow the cursor, so I have to stand in the same position for a long time to calibrate the gun.

(3) As a result, I can't dodge bullets in this bullet hell game. All I did was stand in the same position, adjust my gun position, and try to eliminate the enemy's bullets with my bullets. I'm not sure if this is your intended game design.

Loved the idea! and the tone of the game was really cool!

Damn, the vibes man vibes, you brought me back to the shadow Moses but with Gorden Freeman keep going mate I'm looking forward to seeing more updates from you. try to make the controls more smooth that will help a lot

I'm glad someone picked up on the Half Life influence. I definitely had the protagonist based off Gordon's HEV suit and the scientists were influenced by Half Life 1 as well!

I needed 3 mins and 2 reloads to realize how did the movement, but once I did, the rest of the game was pretty good! I think that the dificulty has been picked accurately and the shooting error made it feel so real instead of autoaiming to your cursor.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! You're onto something - it's too unclear how the game works for first time players!

Fun game! Realy like the mood.

I realy liked the drawback of only having the W key but it was a bit hard to learn. I would have liked a easy room first to get the feel of the controls,

It was also unclear that the green enemys without a health bar was enemys because of the fact that most of them where near scientists.

Really good game! Love the visuals.

The main flaw for me was the aiming enemies. Their firerate is similar to yours, so you can't hit them(bullets collide). And you can't maneuver around them because of the controls.

I  liked controls tho. They felt really good for me. It lacks maneuvering, but it's a good thing. The controls themselves are a really interesting take on the theme. They are a bit buggy due to the 3d environment sometimes, but they're still pretty good!

It might also need some more explanation, the starting cutscene is cool, but it doesn't explain a lot of stuff, like what are these hostages? Or are they extra mutants? When i'm trying to shoot them I die, when I come close to them nothing happens

Edited: I read the description, and got it, but it'd be nice to have it explained in game

Developer

Thanks for the feedback - you're absolutely right about the fire rate, I should've made them fire slower to allow the player to counter/beat them in a far easier way than having to struggle with positioning first. I definitely could've improved the game by adding a 'information' screen before actually playing the game to explain the situation better! So, the scientists are the only 'good guys' other than the player and you don't want to shoot them but the green mutants you mention are aliens that are immune to damage and instead use the energy of your attack/projectile and send it back at you with great damage. Now that you mention getting close, I really should've gave some enemies melee attacks if you get too close!

congrats on finishing the jam! the vibe of the visuals and music is super nice! very melancholic. i think the mouse aiming was somehow bugged and the gameplay itself is a bit loose, but good job!!

The control scheme and the sanity stat is unique. I'm a fan of the visuals. seeing a 3D game with the seamless transition from the intro scene to gameplay is nice.

Developer

Thank you, the seamless transitioning between scenes took more effort than I ever thought it would - Unity's built in Player Controller was causing a few headaches in this area!

Good game, I made it to the third stage! Amazing visuals, although I found the audio a little faint.  One thing I wish the game had was the ability to run backwards, would have saved me a lotta deaths. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I actually did have the ability to run backwards much earlier on when developing the game (one of the first things I added!) but I removed it to add to the difficulty - looking back, I agree and think I should've kept it in!

Submitted(+1)

The sanity system is a great idea for the theme. I love the reaction when firing at the neutral NPCs.

I am impressed that you added intro cutscene in your game, I really like it. :)

Walking backwards would be a great addititon to the gameplay. As the bullets have collision, I tried shooting enemies by letting the bullets bounce of the walls. Then, in order to dodge the enemy bullets you could only move in one direction, if you want to maintain the angle. Or move in a different direction and loose the angle.

You could try to add more emphasis on impacts to improve the game feel/juice. (like adding screen shake and stuff)

Other than that, cool game and keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Great feedback, thanks for taking the time to put it into words. I absolutely should've kept the backwards movement in the game (I had removed this on purpose but I realise now that was a mistake). As far as improving the feel of the game goes, it's a great suggestion - I'll make sure to add more of an impact to the player's firing/actions going forward!

Submitted(+1)

I love your implementation of the theme! The art and the doors are very nice!

Submitted(+1)

I liked the game and the details were amazing! Just wish that the aiming was more exact to where the mouse was pointing, but other than that it was really good!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback - I did notice that when play-testing the game myself. I definitely should have reduced the player's sway/animation to allow them to aim more accurately!

Submitted(+1)

A few things I didn't like but otherwise pretty solid. Nice game :)

Submitted(+1)

Hey! The dynamic lighting and detailed environment in your game are super cool. I love the health and sanity mechanics; they add a fun twist and keep things interesting. Nice job, dude!

Developer

Thank you! I was worried that the dynamic lighting would be too much of a performance hit for a WebGL game but it seemed to work out okay (at least on the devices I play tested on!)

Submitted(+1)

A bit tricky movement for first impression but getting used to it! :D Very nice game buddy!

Developer

Perhaps too tricky! Thanks for your feedback and for giving my game a try!
