Really great game. I really liked the mechanic of the flashlight and that you have to wait in between a bit to recharge it. I think it is a very cool mechanic that you in between just need to doge the enemies. It also pairs very well with the rooms you need to clear first before you can go on. I think this makes a really great and engaging gaming experience. Some minor feedback I have:
Anyway, congratulations to this very cool game. Well done!
I'm glad you enjoyed!
Also, thanks for the feedback! I was originally considering adding sound effects for enemies, such as a shooting sound for certain enemies as an example. Unfortunately due to time constraints, I couldn't add that for the jam, but if I release an update for new features, I will probably consider adding sounds. As for the tipping mechanic, without going too much into spoilers, it does become relevant later on in the game.
Thank you for playing!
Really solid top down action game. Gave me big binding of isaac vibes which definitely wasn't a bad thing. The focus on maintaining your flashlights battery power was a good way to use the theme and although functionally very similar, aiming a flashlight just feels very fresh compared to trying to aim and shoot a gun. Fantastic job overall and the aesthetics were very pleasant too. The only feedback I would give is that the intro cutscene is fairly long and an option to skip it would be really great for repeat runs since this seems to be a game where retrying is a somewhat regular occurrence.
I'm glad you enjoyed!
The Binding of Isaac was a big source of inspiration, so I'm glad I managed to give similar vibes! Also, thanks for the feedback, I will look at adding skip intro functionality if I update the game in the future.
Thanks for playing!
This is a well polished game. Excellent art style, music and it incorporates the theme very well.
Thank you for playing!
This game is soo good, and it has the best room service I have seen in all the hotels I have been, never got this amazing fast and quality service. that being said, great job!!, I enjoyed playing it, it has it complexity as well to beat the enemies without loosing lives, thank goodness is it possible to purchase lives and improve lanterns.
I'm happy you enjoyed!
I agree , the swiftness of the hotel's room service is very impressive. He must really want a tip lol
Thanks for playing!
Hi!
Reached the 2nd floor! Very playable!
It was mentioned that if there are too many phantoms, I can call the manager for help. But when I realized that you can always call him, I did so, because it is so much easier. It might be a good idea to add some cooldown to it so you don't have to summon it every time you want.
it would be nice to be able to turn the sound on/off.
Very good, congratulations!
Congrats on reaching the 2nd floor!
Thank you for the feedback! There is currently already a system in place to stop the player from overusing Room service, but I cant explain that without going into spoiler territory. I will however still consider altering the balance for Room service if I make a future update. As for sound, unfortunately I didn't have time to implement sound settings. If you are having issues with the sound or even if you just want to turn sound on/off, I believe most modern browsers allow users to mute/unmute certain tabs, so you could hopefully use that as a solution for the time being. If I make a future update, I will also try to add some settings to deal with that issue and other similar ones.
Thank you for playing!
I loved the sound! It's more like a suggestion, not a request ;).
Oh sorry for misunderstanding your comment earlier lol. I'm glad you enjoyed! Thanks for playing!
Nice rogue like. I the gameplay felt smooth, the intro cutscene at the beginning was defiantly a nice touch. I would add a way to skip the intro cutscene on repeats of the game. Good game, congrats.
Thank you for playing!
If I make an update in the future, I'll make sure to try adding a way to skip the intro cutscene. Thanks for the feedback!
I'm glad you enjoyed!
Wow, was not expecting a rogue like flashlight toting game fighting rats, bats and...other things :D
Awesome game, love it!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you had a great time!
I enjoy the tense atmosphere and the spotlight dimming at just the crucial moment when it's needed the most. I started noticing all the enemies as the monitor brightness increased, making the game simpler. Keeping some of them hidden in the shadow until the player discovers them could enhance the game's immersion even further.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback! I will take that into consideration and will consider working on that if I release an update in the future
I had fun playing this. Using light to kill enemies, very cool.
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you had fun!
Damnn boy that's cool
I'm glad you enjoyed!
Great job with art and gameplay! I enjoyed the many varieties of phantoms.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed!
So amazing this reminds me of the binding of isaac, the gameplay is fantastic. very impressed you made this is such a short amount of time. And thank you for making it open source.
I'm really happy you enjoyed! It was a stressful 2 weeks lol, but luckily I managed to get most of what I wanted done in time! Thanks for playing!
Really great game!! Gameplay was a lot of fun and the art and theming is on point! Only complaint was that I had to click through the entire dialog at the beginning whenever I restarted, but other than that great job!
I'm happy you enjoyed!
Thank you for the feedback! I'll consider making the game skip the opening text on restarting if I make a future update.
Thanks for playing!
pretty fun!
Thanks for playing! Glad you had fun!
Great game and open source :-) The light as a weapon is very slick, it keeps the game mechanics focused. The map is big and plenty of variation in the monsters. The graphics and music fit the game perfectly.
Thank you for playing!
I'm glad you enjoyed so many aspects of my game!
Really solid game all around, my only complaint is that I would occasionally get stuck on a wall when moving horizontally to it. Which can be big problem when you're trying to hug the walls but don't want it to stop you from moving and make u take a hit. Love the roguelite style, big levels, and progression system
I'm glad you enjoyed the game!
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the wall issue. That issue was caused by a bug that appeared after I fixed a bigger bug on deadline day, so unfortunately I didn't have time to find and fix it then. I have fixed it in the code on GitHub, but unfortunately wont be able to add the bug fix to the game until after the jam is over. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the rest of the gameplay though!
Thanks for playing!
This game feels massive! A really great result in only a short time! I see the binding of Isaac and Luigi's mansion influence and its so cool! When I was playing I was like, is this a roguelike? haha. For me I would have liked to see some progression showing how close I was to the goal, kind of like when you go down a floor in issac. The main character just being eyes is so cool and the boss i faced was awesome (he killed me) :(
Update: I played a bit more and I realize the floors make it clear how far you are from the end, but I still think an indicator like a little cutscene would be cool. I ran into one issue where a coin got stuck in the wall. The game also doesn't seem fairly balanced. I don't think it is likely someone could beat it with only the health provided... It would be helpful if the enemies dropped health or if it spawned on room completion. Again, great work!
I'm glad you enjoyed my game and that you noticed the two largest influences for my game!
I'm also thankful for the feedback! Small transition cutscenes between levels was something I was considering at some point, but had to give up on due to time unfortunately, though I will consider improving the indication if I update the game in the future. Balance was also something I struggled with, since I wanted to make the game slightly challenging but still fair, when not using Room Service (or the cheat codes), but didn't want it to be too easy when using Room service. I will look at fixing up the balance potentially in the future. Also thanks for the feedback on the bug with the coin, I will try to look into that.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!
Very cool game! Not what I was expecting from a Unity game at all! I really like the flashlight attacking idea and the graphics are very clean! I may have to explore Unity more in the future! Well done!
Thank you for playing! I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised!
I like it very good concept and art style is soo clean
Thanks! I'm happy that you liked it!
GREAT GAME!! the art is clean
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed! Thanks for playing!
