The game has a cool vibe and really good graphics! One thing, you should expand the story

The cutscene at the end was pure gold!

Good job!

Absolutely beautiful. Perfectly on spot in every way. One of the best games of the jam. Full ratings. 🙌

The amount of graphical details and mood you managed to add in two weeks is very impressive! You added details to such an extent that if you look down you actually have a body!

If anything, I think you should change the pirate flag on the cover and put something that could be more representative and get more attention like some of the screenshots instead. I almost passed on this game because I didn’t see what it was about at a glance together with the rest of the submissions, and I think it would be a shame for it to go unnoticed because of this.

Kudos for the great work of the team!

Thank you for your comment and you are absolutely right! The previous logo wasn't honouring the quality of the game. Today I worked on Blender and tried to make one that is more representative. I hope I made something that will be a bit more catchy for the eyes :D
Anyway, thanks again, that was a pertinent feedback! Glad you liked the Island :)

I see! Much better. :)

Awesome atmosphere, great visuals and top notch sound design! I was not sure what to do on the first run, so I didn't collect the red crystal as I didn't notice that you can pick it up :D I didn't see the real point of the map as it is not showing your current place. I had quite a few pop ins and strange artifacts, but the looking at the volume of the work this is more than acceptable. Well done team!

Unfortunately on my Laptoy it crashes before it even shows an opening screen.

LowlevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 198]
Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0006 - 'HUNG'

There is an "UE4PrereqSetup.exe" hidden inside the depth of the files, but when I run it it gives me an option to uninstall so I presume it was run automatically and not something that one would have to do manually.

(OK, this is strange, on the third attempt it just runs. So maybe opening said installer did something good...)

(Nonetheless, unfortunately on my Laptoy, the sound is already stuttering the moment I hit the "Start" button, and I didn't even move at all... And this being made in Unreal I can't just open the project and try to make a Linux build for it...)

Developer(+1)

Hi,

Thank you for reporting this. It is very strange.

Searching on internet it seems it is a problem related to the PC. Unfortunately, as you said the build is made only for Windows OS.

Are you using the Itch.io Desktop App to launch the game or you are just downloading it as it is. In case I suggest you use the app, it is easier also to receive the different patches for all the game you have downloaded. I don't know but maybe with the app, your problem could resolve by itself.

Anyway, thank you for sharing this problem.

Submitted(+1)

Direct download, of course. Actually I download most stuff on the Linux machine and transfer the archives on a USB pen-drive.

I doubt any sort of app can change the performance of the Windows machine, which simply is not meant for extensive 3D graphic applications (Celeron N4020 with 4GB memory).

Providing a Linux build should be really simple and I could use the Ryzen machine I got myself for game development...

Developer(+1)

Hi again :),

Finally, we put the Linux version. I'm not able to see if it works, but now it is available. Don't hesitate to report us in case of problems :)

I can start it alright. I enter the controls screen to see the info, and return to the main menu. "Start" became "Resume". Entering the main game doesn't really work and it crashes. On my second attempt I went right into the game by clicking on "Start" and the screen became unresponsive again. This time I couldn't even properly Alt-Tab out of it, but fortunately it crashed a few moments later, just like the first time...

I don't like horrors, but I tried :) Amazing atmosphere! So much that after a few minutes I ran away and went to watch the MetalStorm's stream :D

I know you are working on adding more tips for the player. I would definitely be careful not to overdo it, because how easy it is to get lost in this jungle now also has its own unique charm. I think that at this level, it would be enough to add one clear location, somewhere in the middle, that would reflect on the map. It would be enough to have a hook and start your further search from there.

I also propose to add even more "scaring" by the environment. Murmurs, rustles, maybe some silhouettes on the horizon or slipping through the bushes. Although even now the greatest opponent is darkness and our imagination. I saw various macabre things that turned out to be ... a shadow or a bush :P

The biggest problem for me in such games is when we realize that there is no real threat, that is, there are no opponents, and that we cannot die. I wonder how you can either postpone it as long as possible (and still "cheat" the player that he is in danger) or add some elements of a real threat, without falling into literalness, or even worse into a shooter ;P

Amazing vibes with this one. Very well made. I'm excited to see another Unreal submission (there's so few of us!) and frankly jealous because you guys were a team and I was all alone :(
amazing what more people can do with the engine.

But I think others may have said this, WHAT WERE YOU GUYS THINKING?! You should have saved this game idea for an Epic jam instead!! Quality is amazing. You say "the first in your career"... are you guys professionals? Or are going to be?

A small criticism that I have is that for a game jam, where we have to quickly play and rate so many games, this was a bit too difficult and it was taking too long to "reach the end", if there is one! See, at some point, after getting quite lost in the tropical jungle, I realized I had to find some gems and place them in the altar, but only managed to find two and couldn't figure out how many more were left, what I was supposed to be achieving etc. Some more hints as to perhaps why we were gathering me might be nice, or some visual cue as to what they are doing to the altar (are they slowly opening a passage etc.).. otherwise we are clueless. But yes this is good mystery, but combined with the fact that it was just difficult to find what's what in that dark jungle maze and that I - personally - wanted to get through as many games to rate as possible, it just wasn't possible to finish the entire story you guys put for us here.

Anyway though, very very nice game, you guys did a top job. Out of curiosity, did you do all the art / assets yourselves or what?

Hi, thanks for your detailed comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

I was afraid that the game would be too short, but I realize that the puzzle and the fact that we get lost easily does increase the game duration. Thank you for your feedbacks, I take note of it, as we are already working on making the game a bit more intuitive to navigate for post jam, eg, compass, better map, etc.

Its actually funny you mention a visual cue about the altar, as I unintentionally modelled one. There's 3 arches on the altar, one for each stone we gotta bring. Maybe just adding an adittional cue in those arches would do the trick :) Anyway, it was very fun to do, we learned so much developping it, and the reception was amazing, its very motivating to keep going on and making this game better and better!

I am the prop and character artist, so I made the boat, torches, altar, rustic tents, the pirate w the pistol, the parchments and the throne. The rest was free assets from epic. Some of the sounds were made by a sound artist, Lekrias and Dada, the environment was built by Mat, programming was done by Dregon and Mat. And few other contributors.  :)

Myself I'm still very beginner, but working my way to be professional.

Very impressive work here, visuals and sound effects are stunning!

This game is really pretty! And very spooky. 2spooky4me. I really appreciated the sound design with all the jungle noises mixed with very not jungle sounds. Or maybe they're all jungle sounds. I don't know. I've never been to a jungle at night. I'm not sure I knew what to do. I followed the map like the game instructed, but hit a literal wall. Interacting with the alter didn't do anything. I wandered a bit more, found another stone, brought it back to the alter, but when I interacted with it, another random thing appeared, but it appeared to be unrelated from my stones. I gave up because I did not want to go out into that jungle again.

Overall, pretty darn good looking game. Well done team! Very well made! Almost feels out of place in this jam lol

Thats a great comment :), thank you for sharing your experience in your text, it was fun to read! I love horror games like Amnesia, however I'm the same, I cannot finish them as it scares me too much :P. But its definetely really fun to make!

Submitted(+3)

Impressive! Your team really pulled this off! I would recommend adding a compass but despite that I had no problem finding my way. Great level design and sound.

Thanks! Great suggestion for the compass, it would fit perfectly this game!

VERY COOL GAME

The visuals, audio and mood is by far the best I've seen on  par with some serious games out there. Controls are nice, and if there's anything to criticize is that I can't tell the pathing/lighting in some places - but even then that might not be an issue depending on what you're trying to get at!

Props for getting it done in 2 weeks!

Submitted(+3)

Great atmosphere, very immersive. And then someone screams at you. I kept looking around to see if something’s attacking me! Very well done.

Submitted(+3)

Great visuals and atmosphere. I was able to figure out what to do and navigate around quickly. I agree with the feedback in the other comments. One tiny thing to improve is to get the character head mesh onto a layer that casts shadows but doesn't render in the camera so the character doesn't have a headless shadow.

(+1)

Glad you liked the environment. That's a very good idea to solve the head shadow issue, thanks :)

Submitted(+3)

Really enjoyed playing this on my live stream, thanks for watching. This is a top notch submission. If I wasnt told and knew you I would not have even thought this was a jam game but a real project. Amazing work to everyone involved.

Submitted(+3)

Nailed it!

Brief, atmosphere, gameplay for me it felt like the makings of a AAA game... incredible work!

One of my favourites of the jam so far!

Like the graphics and will keep in my collection to play it more.
A few little things bugged me, like needing to click on the X to close the map (maybe also add Escape button and a toggle on "M").
Any chance of showing your location on the map?
You have all the structure there to build a great game, please keep going.

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for your feedback, you make a good point with the escape for the map and inventory :)

Its definetely very motivating to improve it and add more content to the game
its a satisfying experience to see the result :)

Submitted(+3)

Good game!!!  A very good atmosphere, a fantastic terrain design!  Please, expand it!!

Thank you! You as well I hope you will expend your game!

Submitted(+3)

That's beautiful! I manage to find three "more things" but I didn't understand what I was doing there.

The sounds started to terrifying me! lol

Awesome work!

Is this made with Unreal 4? or 5?

Developer(+1)

You should find the instruction inside the pergamens and you can also use the map to find what you are searching.

Everything is made in UE4, but we are trying to convert the game to UE5 .

Thanks for playing the game!!

We will try to make more understandable what the player should do

(+3)

Really nice game, good atmosphere. I want the sequel!!
