Hi, congrats on your game! :) That's really cool, I love the art style. 1-bit games have a charm that I can't quite explain. As for the game itself, I think it has a lot of potential. The mechanics like jumping and movement were implemented very well. However, what I felt was lacking a bit was some sort of interaction between the black and white sides of the level. Currently, the white side feels like a separate level, and doesn't have a direct interaction with the black side.

If you have some spare time, please try out my game. It's a classic space shooter from the 80s but with a personal touch. Please leave your honest feedback.

Thanks! Yeah, ran out of time to implement a lot of features I had in mind. Point taken on the black/white sides. Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :) Oh, and I've played, rated, and commented on your game (which I had a nostalgic feel for me and I had fun playing).

I really enjoyed the character controls. The game has the potential to evolve into something even greater from such a pleasant concept.

I thought this was a nice and tight game. The movement felt good and responsive. The aesthetic was very cohesive. It was fun to run a level in this world you created. Great Job!

Really great job with this! I really love the concept. It made me smile because I had a similar backstory of a character trapped in a 2D world, but I love how you have the 1bit >> 3D idea. That's cool! Plus, the sound effects, music, and mechanics were all great! Well done.

I hope you're doing well now! The game is short but sweet! I like it a lot.

The game is pretty straightforward, but some elements were unclear. The portal on the left was not "obvious", I thought it was just a part of the wall at first. It's maybe difficult to distinguish because of the 1-bit style, but the placement might be off too. Other than that it's really good :D

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I had planned on making the teleport blink or flash once all 3 keys were collected but was running out of time and didn't get back to  implement that before submission. Another design concept I had that didn't make it due to time was a spring board that was going to be used to launch Crabby up to the teleport, so that was the original placement decision. Maybe placing it down near the key in the lower left would've made more sense and not make it look like it was part of the wall after the springboard didn't come to fruition. Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :)

Very nice little platformer. The controls are really responsive and feels just right, and that is surprisingly hard to do.

I hope you have fully recovered and stay healthy! Good job publishing your game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I've recovered and was back home Monday and to work Wednesday (already had Tuesday planned as a vacation day so that worked out nicely). Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :)

Nice game and good implementation of the theme! But second half of the level is too easy compared to the first.

And what kind of pet flies next to you? Does he help somehow?

Developer(+1)

Definitely correct on the right (white) side of the screen and on "Batty". But, I simply ran out of time to implement everything I had planned (ended up having a hospital stay that dug into a bit of my development time). Same thing with "Batty". That was going to be an  annoying "enemy" that would try to knock you off platforms until you got out of its range (and after an amount of time reduce health) but ran out of time to get the mechanic in place. But I really like the idea of Batty becoming a pet so I'll have to consider that if I do further development on this later! Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :)

Nice work. Hope you have already recovered from your hospital stay! I guess the game ends after you reach the door on the right side? Also, while you are in one "dimension," the other side seems like a waste of screen space. How to make the non-active side interesting might be something to think about.

Developer

Thanks, I'm back home and even back to work now. Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :) You're definitely correct about the other side. I had more plans for the alternate (white) side and even the black side. I also wanted to call more attention to achievements than just the text in the center of the black dimension by the scores/health/keys. My health incident and subsequent hospital stay forced me to cut multiple ideas and features so I could get something submitted. :)

I got Crabby home!!!

I loved the art and music/sfx for this game. I'm usually not super engaged by platformers (hence why I opted to make a story game for my own submission), but I actually liked this one a lot! I beat it to the end as testament. I could totally see this working as a mobile game, what with the portrait orientation-- just add more levels and it's bona fide. haha but overall great work!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, especially considering you're not engaged by platformers, and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :) Congrats getting crabby home! Now I'm wondering if he developed any interdimensional relationships we're not aware of while in the 2D realm, LOL. ;)

Submitted

game had a very nice look and feel to it. How do you beat the spiders though? I tried to bait them but they still manage to get a bite in.

Developer

Thanks. The trick to the spiders is to just get close enough to them (about a crabby body's width) so they can't touch you and they'll drop then you can get under them without getting bit. Thanks again for playing and taking the time to comment.

I'm not a fan of platformers in general (because I am pretty bad at them) but your game was so fun and the controls felt really smooth. I think both the music and the art really added to the 1Bit experience

Very snappy controls paired with a cool ascetic that feels like you are playing an original Gameboy game. I wish it had more than a single level but very good job indeed!

nice little platformer - and great choice of art style.
I can totally relate to Crabby's problems - I had a similar conundrum recently ;-)

If only someone would help guide me back into the correct dimension and try to keep me from dangers! Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment and leave feedback. :)

Very cute game and art style. The game felt good to play as well. I got all 3 keys but nothing happened

Good stuff!

Developer

Thanks! Once you grab all the keys head up to the black side's teleport door in the upper right. That will get you to the white side where you can get to the exit teleport to get Crabby back to the "real world". I had planned to make the teleport animate to draw attention to it once all the keys were collected but ran out of time for that feature. Graphics were mostly from Kenney.nl with a couple mods here and there to get some things done to fit the vision. Had been wanting to do something with one of his 1-bit asset packs.

Theme was on point. Also i think you got a very clear style of code AND art alike.  Felt super responsive. And plus: who doesn`t like a character as cute as crabby? Well done.
