dude!!! what a nice game, really smooth, super nice art and mechanics, sometimes it gets too dark. fantastic job!!
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it :)
Very nice shader work!
Thank you! Feel free to check the code for it in my GitHub repo if you're interested.
Thanks
That... Was awesome. Really good vibes, nice music, and interesting gameplay. The only though ive got when its ended was that i want more. I have nothing else to say, very good job.
I'm glad you like it :) I've enjoyed playing your game!
Ohhh my goodness, this is absolutely brilliant! Wow! I loved everything about this game: the music, the visuals, the mechanics, the puzzle-solving, the implementation of eyesight + echolocation... Wow! I am truly at a loss for words! Your execution is flawless, I am so blown away! Excellent job, excellent!
I'm blown away by your comment! It's really encouraging to hear that, thank you :D
The game had something of genial, the lore of the game was very immersive, a very interesting point of view from the selected theme of that jam, we think you have a lot of potential inside, nice work! ;)
Thank you! Your game was nothing short of amazing, your team did a great job :)
I liked the surreal feel of this game and how sound was tied in with it. The mechanics worked nicely too. Good job!
Thank you! Your game was cool as well.
Cool use of shaders! I really liked the mechanics of this game! Nice Job!
I'm happy to hear that!
What a cool game!
Thanks! I've enjoyed yours as well.
Cool game! Very good game mechanics! Thank you! :)
No, thank you for the lovely comment :D
Wow! What a nice game.
The whole idea is very clever: combining the echolocation (and that shader...) with other perspectives (i.e.: Dimensions)... I really liked this game.
The only thing I would add (to make almost perfect) is two or more songs (of the same type of 'feeling' you are currenly using: calm + atmospheric), or a little longer song could do the trick too..., so when you are learning to play the game, so the music (which is very good) doesn't feel repetitive. (to be fair, it took me like 5 minutes to get the hang of it, by changing between Dimensions/Perspectives with "F", jumping across the platforms and everything... and so I listened to the song for a while later).
I also loved the shaders you used (Ripple + Outline together...), the effect is very interesting and supports all your game idea. I also agree that a V.R. version of this game would be awesome (providing you add a "vignette" effect to the sides, like they did in Resident Evil 4 VR, to help avoid "Motion Sickness" when you jump, run, etc).
Congratulations.
Thank you a lot for the feedback! I agree that the music is pretty repetitive. It changes a bit in the last chamber, but even then it's still the same chord progression. I originally planned for a longer melody with a lot more variations, but it was my first time doing my own music and getting familiar with LMMS. It honestly was one of the most enjoyable parts of making the game for me, so I'll put some practice in and become better at it. Thanks for the VR suggestions too :D
Great concept, mechanics, combine with the slient musica and sfx, great job! It's really a smooth and fun puzzle game with the 2 dimesions perspective.
Thanks! Your game was really fun :)
A game that is somehow captures beauty in darkness that you don't need to see with your eyes. Fantastic Style, Aesthetics, Mechanics, Story and Sound. I may be a little biased because I love unique puzzle games but this one is a solid contender for my favorite from this jam so far.
Stupendous Work :)
Wow, it's really lovely to hear comments like this :D
You've got a really cool game as well!
The music and sound effects were so atmospheric. Your mechanic has to be one of the best takes on two dimensions I've seen this jam. I had so much fun playing through it! Congrats on the great game!
I'm glad to read this! Thank you so much :D
I love the visualization of sound in the game, it's so on point. The puzzles are well balanced, not to hard not to easy. But I feel like the "visual" dimension is a little to weak though. What i mean by that is that i feel like i was solving the puzzles 80% in the sound dimension and only 20% in the visual dimension. Maybe you can balance that a little bit more. Other than that great game. Had fun and as I said, the visualization of the sound dimension is so well done. Great job!
Thank you so much! I get what you mean completely, I did rely more on sound than vision. It's mostly to reduce the time needed for properly texturing the environment, and I was able to get around with simple color materials. If I do a post-jam version or an entire rework of the game, I'll definitely try to balance the two aspects.
I think I've only seen one or two other games that had a similar "echolocation" type of effect, and I freaking love it every time. This game was so cool and effective as a puzzle game, and I think you did a great job!!
My only critique is that on the third puzzle, I found myself lost in pitch black darkness and couldn't find any sort of reference point. After walking in various directions and aiming the camera for a few minutes, I ended up giving up. I'd be careful about any lightless, silent areas you have.
But overall, really well done.
Thank you! Indeed, there are two horror games, Lurking and Stifled, that use this effect. I think they come from the same developer actually. There is only one older platformer, where the effect is different but it's even more beautiful in my opinion, Devil's Tuning Fork.
For the 3rd puzzle, it might be on me because I'm expecting the player to figure this out on their own. The platforms themselves emit a low sound and soundwave when starting/stopping. That should be your point of reference along with a light near the stairs. After that try "looking" around more with echolocation.
Wow! This one blew me away. Really cool mechanics and aesthetics. Nailed it dude!
Thank you for the lovely comment :D
Really enjoyed the beautiful art, with the "sonar" dimension it was very cool gameplay. Music made it even better! Very good job on this! I for sure would see this being something similar as Portal/etc, like someone else mentioned as well. Obviously needs still polishing and making everything nice, but already felt like a proper game with the nice main menu and everything!
Good work on this one!
Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed your game as well. I'm keeping in mind all the suggestions I had. I'm considering remaking this into a proper game that relies on this effect after the jam, maybe a VR option would also be very cool.
Yeah I think an option for it would definitely work, but don't single yourself only on that, or you'll be diminishing your potential group of players/buyers ;)
It was beautiful indeed. Well done.
I'm happy to hear that! You've got a great execution on your mechanics. It has the occasional bug, but it's really well done!
This game is absolutely beautiful. This game reminds me of that VR game called Blind by tiny bull studio when everything is drawn in white outlines.
Good job!
Oh, I just checked that out and it looks fantastic. It's also weird how close my username is to their name xD I really might try making something in VR, it can work really well with the effect.
Your game is great! Switching between light and echolocation is an incredibly good idea.
Ambient music is also well chosen, well done!
And I'll keep an eye on your github repositories, I'll be happy to learn how echolocation works, so curious about it.
I actually did the music myself, so I'm really happy to get a comment about it xD
It was my first time composing using LMMS but I feel I kept it very minimalistic with just the piano, it could've used some more instruments.
I want to try some more games, so I'll wait until the jam ends to make the repo for the echolocation only, but I'm glad you're interested!
Wow... you did? That's awesome! I think it was a perfect match for your game! I like it as minimal as it is, but maybe it would have been excellent as well with more instruments, who knows? Great job anyway! ;-)
