Not the most original idea but it was implemented pretty well. It had smooth gameplay and it can be a fun timewaster. I'd recommend some refining the tile placement, water fountains are usually attached to a wall or a column with impassable terrain, and it would be a good idea to disable player movement after death. If you are planning on working some more on it I would consider adding the option to upgrade projectile size and rate of fire. I would also consider a dodge cooldown that can be reduced if you insist on not adding any more attacks/spells. All in all, it is a good game, especially considering it is your first Jam.

wow awesome game,  I died in level 3

I loved the difficulty and sound design, a nice little roguelite

Really liked the theme and the mechanics behind the entry, would love to have seen something that lets me upgrade my spell, something inspired by the hades upgrade system would suit this game perfectly in my opinion, whilst keeping the "one spell" theme in place by only modifying what you have rather than giving more. Overall a really fun experience

To be honest, I was thinking about doing the 1 hp with my game but decided to not go full Dark Souls mode. lol Your game's mechanics and gameplay loop flow very well together. For me, the only thing that was a struggle sometimes was remembering there was a mouse cursor to show me where I was aiming. Most of the time I was just guessing by where my shots were going. The dash timing/iframes feels good too. Not one time did I feel like it was the games fault I was hit. I knew it was on me.

Challenging in one word. 1 HP is unforgiven ;-). (don't play this kind of games at all).

Some tips: challenge the player to use the first room (without enemies) to test the ablities. The texts fine and nice to the side. As mention below already. an indicator the room is open is advisable.   Also a  "hole" where the enemies can spawn will help as well prolonging the battle.

Pretty challenging but fun and well polished game! The movement, dodge roll, and attacking all felt really good, and it felt like if you died it was your own fault. Could maybe be a tiny bit more forgiving, e.g. with 2 or 3 hits to die, but probably would get more manageable by playing a bit more! Also an indicator on when the next room is available would be a good addition :)

Edit: read the description after this and the hints were helpful in getting a bit further!

Wow your game was very fun to play! I loved the challenge of the gameplay by being down to 1 hp that really added to the intensity and kept me retrying for more runs to face the hurdle.

The visuals and effects all work together cohesively as well and feel responsive to what I am doing in the game. You crushed this one from my perspective!

Developer

Thank you so much for the encouraging words!! 1hp is pretty tough to balance since it’s so unforgiving, so I’m trying to make an experience that everyone can enjoy! I loved your game as well!! Thanks again :)

I'm a big fan of this one, I liked the same zone at the start also, gameplay feels good, sounds and music works.

Really amazing game! By far my favorite submission I've played yet! I like the way the difficulty changes between rooms, and the way the enemies are balanced with speed and health. The checkpoint is a nice feature to have. The whole dungeon was really well-designed. The big spiders at room 8 gave me a hard time for a bit, but now room 9 is my struggle. Haven't been past room 10 with the 4 shooters in the courtyard. I'll definitely be back to make more progress though!

Also, the scaling thing was an issue we had to figure out with our project as well - it depends on the browser's zoom level.  We found we had to go into Project > Project Settings... > General > Display > Window, and under Stretch, changed Mode to viewport. We also changed Aspect to keep. If I remember right, that's all we had to do to fix it.

Developer

Wow, thank you so much for spending so much time on the game! I’m glad you enjoyed it so much! I’m planning on tweaking some of the rooms a bit so that the game is a bit more balanced, and I think rooms 9 and 10 could use some adjustments / redos. Thank you for the info on the window scaling as well! I might need to go back into my project and look at those settings again.

Thank you so much for the support, I really enjoyed your game as well!!

wow, the game is polished pretty well, the controls are very easy to adapt to. Some invincibility mechanic could add to the game a lot. As the punishment is huge for colliding with an enemy.

Submitted

First, I do like how this game starts you out of danger so you can relax in the safe zone and test out the controls.

Second, the animations and overall gameplay is pretty fun. It’s sort of a fantasy themed bullet hell in a way.

Although it’s probably a bit too hardcore for me, I did have fun playing. I died 11 times trying to get past the second room.

Eventually I made it to the third room but I got quickly obliterated.

challenging game. character movement felt so fluid and good nice

Nice work Cam! I enjoyed the challenging gameplay and it was very addictive. The theme of the witch being down to the last spell is also really fun and original!

I just have one question and it might be something that I missed but, how do I know when I can advance to the next room? Do I have to defeat all the enemies in the room including the turrets?

I'll keep playing to see if I can figure it out but thought I would ask the creator directly :D

Edit: I have some gameplay tips for others who are trying to beat this game.

1) You can hold down left mouse button to shoot continuously, very nice

2) Utilizing the dash is key! Don't be afraid to use it a lot.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing and thanks for asking directly :) At the start of the game, it says to clear each room to advance to the next one, so the idea is to defeat all the enemies in the room to get into the next one. In actuality, each door has a timer (which is generally around 10 - 15 seconds) so you only have to survive that long to advance. The only problem is that the door unlocking isn't made clear with any audio or visual queues, so I should fix that! Thank you for playing my game :)

I see! I've been addicted to trying to get past that third room! :D

Submitted

Nice job! I liked the music and the gameplay felt fun and natural! Adorable sprites too. The first room was pretty manageable but tbh I couldn't get past room 2. The single life made it pretty tough after the difficulty spiked. I sorta wish there was a bit more leniency, because I would've liked to see what came next---my skills just weren't up to it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words and for playing the game! I'm sorry the game is quite difficult, it's become clear to me that it is too hard, especially in the beginning, so I'd like to change that and also give the player a bit more health. Thanks so much for playing nonetheless :)

Submitted

No need to apologize, I hope to be able to try the game again when it's a bit easier! ^^"

Submitted

Tried again btw and I was able to get past room 2! Still a bit above my skill level, but I'm also watching my boyfriend play and he's gotten much farther. Once again, really nice game!

Submitted(+1)

Nice entry. The music really fits the game. The art style complements the atmosphere of the game really well. I feel there is a bit of a difficulty jump from the 1st room to the 2nd.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I'm quite proud of the music :) And I definitely agree that there's a difficulty jump, the game could certainly use some balancing / adjusting

Some people said our game is hard in the first rounds. I thought they never tested yours, lmao. But I like it; I like challenging games like this one. 10/10. Good job!

Developer

Lol I think my game might be a bit too hard... Maybe I've been playing too much Elden Ring in my spare time, so I was too influenced by that. Thank you so much for playing!

Lovely aesthetic and game design!! Managed to find a bug where if you dash through the level exit you can clip the wall, and by shooting and spam dashing back down into the level you will be able to skip the entire level :) Speedrun strat for sure. But yeah very good job for your first jam! (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing! And yeah... let's just say I used that bug a lot to speedrun my own game when I was testing xD. I unfortunately didn't have time to fix it. Thank you so much for your feeback :)

Hahaha love to see the dev exploiting their own game. Very well done good luck!

This is great ! loved the art and the atmosphere well done

Developer

Thank you so much! It was a lot of fun to make :)

The game is quite fun! A little polishing would be good, but overall, great job!

Developer

Thank you! I definitely agree it needs some polish and some balancing too, but I'm glad to hear you had fun : )
