An awesome and highly polished entry. We were impressed by the color palette and minimalist asset style. It was not only fun to play but also quite challenging. Fantastic job!

Developer

thank you, I appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed it :D

Dang, this already feels like a full game! I'm seriously amazed you were able to crank this out in 10 days! I don't know if those animations were a part of your existing assets or not, but those were super smooth! Awesome job!

I really liked that the currency is also your health. Very neat idea, but definitely makes balancing the game and the difficulty curve very tricky. I really wanted to unlock the other troops, but I kept dying while the unlock cool down was going, since I couldn't spawn many new defenders!

Overall an absolutely fantastic job! I hope you keep working on this one!

Developer

Thank you! I actually started the jam late and only used about half the time available. I’m really surprised/happy at what I managed to create from that :D

The animations I had to do myself which is why some are a little basic lol. But I’m glad you liked them! And thanks I liked the idea of one resource too but it did make it a lot harder.

Thanks for playing! I’m sure I will update this in the future! 😁

Very nice, I'm a lane defence, buying whole bunches of units, kind of fan so this was very much up my alley.

I think the cost of units and upgrades has been mentioned a few times :P (I never got to unlock a new unit)

It's got a very nice aesthetic, blocky characters will always make me think of minecraft.

Did find myself clicking on a lane but not spawning anything because I was accidentally clicking on a unit.

Quite enjoyable, Good job!

Developer(+1)

Firstly, thanks for playing I’m glad the game appeals to you :D

Yeah, I do wish everyone had more chance to play with some of the other units, it makes the game a little more strategic at that point.

Clicking on a unit and still spawning something in that lane is a small fix that improves the “quality of life” a lot. So I’ll try fix that too - good suggestion.

Thanks again! :)

This feels like a nice take on Plants vs Zombies, a game I spent way too much time playing back in the day. lol. With a few tweaks to the initial difficulty I think this game has a lot of potential!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, that was one of the biggest inspirations, I wanted to make a similar game in a slightly different way. I’m glad you like it :)

Cool concept, and well polished! I can definitely see this as a fun mobile game. The only thing I'd suggest has already been suggested i think: lowering the training costs a bit, and also, does opening that window pause the game? I'm not completely sure because as i've closed it I've lost. Maybe it was a arrow if that can lead to a game over?

Cheers ;)

Developer(+1)

Thanks you, looks like we both made a game that's a perfect fit for mobile then :D

The training cost is the biggest piece of feedback I've had that will definitely be step one when it comes to updating it. As for the game over thing that may have just been poor timing. It does/should pause the game but arrows do slowly reduce the population if they hit the castle too. I'll look into it to make sure it's not a bug, just in case.

Thanks for checking it out!

You're welcome, and indeed! Mine caught me a bit off-guard because being mobile-friendly was a happy accident to say so. It just happened to work seamlessly due to the way in which I've coded it.

Developer(+1)

Thats awesome! I think accidentally making a mobile ready game makes for an even better story…

No way im not checking out the other "Siege" games!

Very cool implementation of a AutoBattler! I liked the laning system. Everything worked smoothly, the sfx and music paired well, and the UI work was very clean! Nice touches on the cooldown indicators for spawn and "train" time for the different troops.

My feedback would mainly be on balancing, perhaps tweaking down of the training population costs. The basic troop can barely stave off the attack from the start, and some combinations of enemies in one lane (e.g. knight + archer at back) can be unforgiving. I didnt manage to try out all the unit upgrades (only could handle spawning in an archer), though i very much would have liked to.

Perhaps a unit crossing the topline unscathed can also be returned (either spawned at start point, or added back to the population pool.

Very solid entry all round!

Developer (1 edit)

You made a siege game too? I'll HAVE to check that one out!

Thank you for playing, sounds like there's plenty of parts you enjoyed/liked and that is great news. I'm glad you enjoyed it. As for the feedback balancing is priority number one in any future update, its the most mentioned comment I've received. But I am glad you went into more detail about it, the knight archer combo killed me a lot too. I'll be sure to lower the unit costs in version 2.0.

Returning units is an interesting idea to recoup some of the unit cost too. Maybe you just click on them and they retreat. I might use that, thanks for the idea!

Very cool game Alex!
I really enjoyed the lanes mechanic that was a really nice twist and honestly I haven't played something quite like this before. I had a lot of fun and will be back for some more rounds, I have your game bookmarked.

Developer

Thank you so much!

That's awesome news, plan is to update this game and hopefully release it on mobile too (eventually). There's so much more I could add to it so with any luck you see it get better over time :)

Submitted

I could totally see this on mobile! That would be an excellent platform for it. I’m glad to hear you are planning to continue with it 👍👍

Developer

yeah shouldn’t take much to port it over either, reorganise the UI and it should be good to go 😁 of course!

That game was really good. Great learning curve for a jam, maybe a bit easy in the end, but a ton of fun to play :) great job!

Developer

Haha you're the first person to say it gets easy! Must have played it a lot 😉 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

Submitted(+1)

Its a really fun game! easy to learn , but it has a good difficulty! Good Job!!

Developer

Thank you, appreciate that!

This is so fun and addicting. I found it really hard to have enough population to train different units, and then utilize them without bottoming out my currency to keep defending. It's very engaging and makes me want to play more! Great work.

Developer

Thanks! Hopefully I will fix that in the first update. I'm glad you enjoyed playing it as it is now though :D

Submitted(+1)

Fun game! Very fast-paced and strategic and the type of game i would probably lose myself in. I like that you added a unit system to add more variety, but as others pointed out, the scaling of difficulty and the balance of population currency made it hard to access the rest of the units. I'm sure that their interactions and animations were just as cool though! Aside from that, the game is pretty solid imo.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it! It's a little rough around the edges but I'm glad you managed to see past that and enjoy the game as it currently is. Hopefully I will be able to update it, clean it up a touch and play around with the stats in future updates. Turn it into something pretty decent.

Wow very impressive and fun game! I appreciated the difficulty, and the gameplay was fun where I was happy to keep hitting "retry" to try to increase my skill at the game. Managing your resources across the lanes was very satisfying and I was impressed with the variety of enemies and friendly units your could train.

Music was epic and fit the vibe of the game well. I also really liked the camera change that smoothly transitioned you from the main menu into the siege!

Excellent work!

Developer

Thank you for the lovely feedback, really do appreciate that. I tried adding as much as I could in the little time we had, while making sure I end up with a "complete" game experience.

Thanks for playing, and congrats on your submission too :D

I just played your game, It is so cool, simple to learn, and so fun.

The graphics are so beatiful, the animations are smooth.

I liked the opera music in the opening so much, It makes one enter the game's mood.

Congratulations, your game is great!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, glad to hear you enjoyed so much of it :D

Fun game, obviously needs some balancing, liked the frantic juggling of the lanes

well done and good job

Developer

Lovely feedback, I appreciate that thanks :)

Submitted(+1)

Nice submission. I am struggling with the game though. Maybe the peasants should cost less to spawn. I feel the cost of everything should be reduced. It takes more than one peasant to take down the weakest enemy, and you constantly have to field them to defend against attackers. That doesn’t leave much to be able to train, let alone spawn any of the other units.

Developer

Thank you :)

It’s seems to be a common concern that the game is too hard and needs balancing. I will take your feedback on board when I improve the game later down the line. Appreciate it, and of course thanks again for playing 😁

Submitted(+1)

Had a hard time to stop playing. This is a fun experience, but it was a bit difficult for me. This was fun!

Developer(+1)

That’s what I love to hear! I’m glad you enjoyed playing. Don’t worry about the difficulty, the game is hard. Even I struggle to stay alive 😂

Thanks for playing 🙏

Excellent game, I loved the overall theming & how you need to frantically stop multiple lanes

But yeah I do agree with the previous comment, resources are incredibly scarce! I could hardly ever unlock any troops before dying, and even if I do manage to unlock them I would just die due to running out of resources. I think a separate resource is needed (maybe earn gold from killing enemies?)

Either way it's a pretty solid idea, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you :)

I had an idea to add gold or something similar originally. I stuck with just the one resource in the end to  keep things simple so I could work on everything else. I will look into adding another resource when I take the game further. Thanks for the constructive feedback, appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool submission! Not sure if I was missing something, but I found it very difficult to manage my population enough to unlock new types of troops as well as holding off the enemies.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! :D

It is hard to scrape up the numbers, it builds up very, VERY slowly.  I didn't find enough time to balance things properly. But It is something I will fix as soon as the jam is officially over and I can update the game again!

This was excellent. My favorite game so far. Good gameplay. Addictive. I couldn't always figure out how to make the upgrades work. By the way, thanks for letting us all know about Kenney assets. Wow, I wish I'd known about them sooner! Thanks for sharing this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! That means a lot.  It definitely needed a better tutorial but I whipped up the tut in the last half hour of the jam haha. Glad you enjoyed it though.

And no worries. You should follow Kenney on his socials, he makes some great stuff and its always free to use :D
