it was really hard but the idea and mechanics were awesome.

Thanks for playing!

Just had a look at your game, I liked the set up and the style, reminded me of GameBoy games.

I found the controls for making different Hot Dogs a little awkward.

Developer

Thought it would make the most sense to use these binds for keyboard but it's true that you need to get used to it. Thanks for checking it out!

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect :P

Very creative concept. Never seen anything like this before!

It was quite challenging for me and I couldn't quite finish it but I had fun. I also like the artstyle and the music.

Developer

Hope you got to the boss fight, if not maybe give it a go some other time when you can. Thanks for playing either way!

Submitted(+1)

You mean corporations expand by any means necessary in the present right? In my first play through, I thought I won when the boss showed up. Did not realize you are supposed to hotdog him too. Anyway, nice entry, I like it.

Developer

Haha yeah that's more like it. Hope you managed to finish the boss as well. (there's a checkpoint pre-fight) Thanks for playing!

It took a few tries to get the hang of things! I'm normally pretty bad at these sorts of games, so I'm glad I was able to stuff CEO Doug full eventually!

I'm not sure the cooldown for ingredients is necessary, it feels like the gameplay should focus on getting the right combination for the right person. So, perhaps, a single cooldown for firing the hotdogs instead of one for each individual item?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Not sure if it's explained properly/obvious from gameplay but hot dog only needs to contain one of the 2 ingredients they like to make them go away. Main reason for using ingredient CDs was that you could fire another hot dog combo when waiting on cooldown from previous ingredients. Which in turn was suppose to add some more decision making as in which ingredients do i put on CD based on enemies that are coming.

E.g. 2 businessman are coming; i only use one of the ingredients they like so I can fire another hotdog with the other ingredient they like right after. Or 1 lawyer and 1 critic are coming. Lawyer is closer but I need to save one ingredient that is critic's weakness when firing at the lawyer. This is a decision that would not happen if you wouldn't have ingredient cooldown as you could just pick whatever for the other 2 ingredients as long as the 3rd one was a weakness for that enemy.

Would obviously have to try it out in practice to see if it makes a difference to just have cooldown on fire for more clarity and making the decision to fire the hot dog feel more impactful while keeping same level of engagement.

Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for playing until the end!

Ah, I see! I didn't realize that only one ingredient needed to match someone's taste. I played under the impression that I needed to get two correct ingredients and the third could be wrong. That does make more sense for having the cooldowns tied directly to ingredients. I think for players who are faster than I am, it would definitely impact their decision making progress. For myself, I was always rushing, focusing only on the nearest person to try and deal with them without seeing the bigger picture. :)

Nice entry!

Very clever concept and well executed. I especially liked the CEO Doug boss. Sometimes I would get loads of the same character which made it a bit difficult to actually clear them since they wanted the same ingredients, but generally I had a lot of fun!

Developer(+1)

Yeah could implement some more controlled RNG to avoid that.  Atm everything is complete RNG; enemies spawned and enemy weaknesses which are rolled again only on complete restart to make it a bit easier to progress between game overs. Thanks for playing!

I really liked the creative concept of building hotdogs and using them as ammunition! There were a lot of nice touches like cooldown indicators for each ingredient. The pixel art and color palette for the logo was nice too.

The UI was neat, and consistent. I understand why the enemy types had to be iconized so as to fit the UI minimalistic theme, but perhaps a more intuitive representation would make the reference easier (e.g. instead of a alphabet, make it the enemy headshot). The meat type for the hotdog would have benefited from some more distinct contrast. I couldnt tell apart the pink and dark red meat.

Overall, a smooth, solid and creative submission!

Developer

Yeah I agree the cheat sheet was really hard to implement with little UI space. Think a step by step tutorial would help a lot or maybe even attaching icons to actual characters. Or like you said using more representative icons. Thinking was same color scheme would be enough to makle the connection but doesn't seem like it based on comments from most people. Thanks for playing!

Great job in finishing the game. I really like the inventive concept and the fun story. The music was also very good and fit the game. I would have liked more colour contrast between the second and third bun.

Go Ricky!

Developer (1 edit)

I agree; was working with a pretty limited palette so my best alternative would be to go for more "alien" (non-natural) colors for ingredients to make them differentiate better. Which in retrospective might have been better.

Thanks for playing!

Here for a fellow hotdog stand game dev lol

A truly unique game concept :D

I like the blend of cooking game and shooter, but didn't really get it how the burger building worked. Maybe some kind of tutorial level where some explanations pop up would ease to get in.

I dig the minimalistic art style, nice game.

Developer

Yeah, you are just thrown into the water and then it's swim or sink. Hard to figure out without few game overs. Should have done some tutorial that let's you breath a bit but ran out of time. You know how it is; when you work on the game alone you think everything is logical... until other people play it :D

Submitted(+1)

I really like the idea cheat sheet was confusing at the start but that's probably my dumbass lol great job tho the art is really cool quite the unique game <3

Developer (1 edit)

Nah, other people had problem understanding it too. Will do a better job of explaining or a tutorial next time. Thanks for playing!

I really like the idea it was a bit tough until I found the right combo then I got into a nice grove. Also I like all the people sprites, Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Wow, this reminded me of ohter cooking games, where you put stuff together. I did not manage to rotate the turret.

The cheat sheet and the ui is a lot to figure out on the first try. Like the idea and it was funny.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing. I have expanded a bit on how cheat sheet works in the instructions. Hope that helps!

Not sure about the turret issue since you are the first person to report it. It reads input for left and right directional arrow. At some points in the game controls are frozen for player (game over condition met and boss transition); maybe that was the issue.

Submitted(+1)

Well done, congrats on your submission. It took a bit to get the hang of and i didnt get to play it for too long but i got the concepts down on what is expected. I like it. I played it on my youtube and was giving my feedback as I played it if you want to check it out you can here

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing. I have expanded a bit on how cheat sheet works in the instructions. Hope that helps!

Not sure about the scaling issue you seem to have as the resolution should be pixel perfect for both game and the UI.

Submitted(+1)

Nice idea, I liked the different take on "the last stand" I wasn't able to understand the cheat sheet or get very far, but I like the concept.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing. I have expanded a bit on how cheat sheet works in the instructions. Hope that helps! Would be a shame to miss the boss fight :)

In Ricky we trust! Fun game, intense at the end and took me a little bit to actually understand how to do it right. i.e. a lot of throwing randomly. I like the uniqueness in the hot dog creation!

Developer(+1)

Changed the wording for instructions a bit as I got some similar feedback in regards  to understanding how to figure out enemy "weaknesses". I wanted revealing of ingredients to be part of the gameplay so might have to consider adding another indicator before you "discover" cheat sheet ingredient for each enemy type.

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

The discovery is definitely a part of the charm of your game! I think for me, even with the cheat sheet though - I didnt notice the symbols on the people till way later. I think cause they didnt show them until they were super close and so I was hitting them before that. But yeah! I definitely think finding out the weaknesses is great and very much a part of the experience, and enjoyable once you get it! ^.^
