The tough but fun. The Herons were very tough to avoid, especially since by the time I knew where they were, it was almost always too late to do anything about it. Got to my friend by luck though. Fun and cute game.
Thank you )
Yeah, because of randomness in heron's behaviour, luck always involved ) Hope you had some fun with the game!
*Agent Her007n has arrived*
really feels like those herons have laser sight. I croak they swarm T_T my poor froggo.
apart from that good bit of fun, definitely give the player some grace space as if you can see the heron so can it and they will ALL go for you
Thank you!
Glad you had fun with it ) I definitely will tune the difficulty of the game postjam.
didnt expect that joining this jam would get my pfp eaten by evil heronsVery well implemented i like the way you automatically put the player on the neares lilypad if we didnt land any
both mechanics really fits the game theme
well done!
such a life!Thank you very much)
THE ART IS SO CUTE. The game is also quite intense, I quickly moved from sneaking around to just jumping around panicking. Could be a mini game in the next mario party.
THANK YOU )))
About jumping around panicking - it was my goal ) I am very glad that you had fun!
Art style is pretty cool reminiscent of old flash games. The one thing I would say is the camera control makes the game feel a little difficult to control. You need to use the mouse to jump but it also moves the camera around. Just feels a little bit awkward.
Thank you!
About camera - It was intentional ) I wanted a small screen, but with the ability to move it around. It makes player uncertain about enemy positions and about their jumps. But it shouldn't be difficult to control! I try to tune camera after this round.
The game definitely has character, especially the art style. While it is challenging to get your jumps right at the beginning, as the game goes on you eventually get the hang of it, and that is satisfying. I liked how getting the jump right resulted in less of a cooldown before the next jump, making the escape from the airons (that's the name of the birds right?) especially rewarding.
Also, I got to find my frog friend!
Thank you for making this, great job! :)
Oh! Thank you! That's very kind of you )
Glad that you had fun, and even finished the game ! I was afraid that I unintentionally made the game too hard )
I would say that at its state it definitely appeals to those looking for a challenge: the moment I died, I immediately told myself "alright, I gotta do this"
But it's also easy to get the gist of it, and while it can be challenging, it's also fun to just jump around :)
It took me a while but I finally found my frog friend!
This was a fun game and I enjoyed the art style.
I was expecting a heron squawk sound on the lose screen, but the sound effects and ambient noises were very nice.
Oh, thank you for reply !
Glad that you had fun )
Sadly, sounds were a low priority in this project. I also had plans for win sound, but alas )
fun game, I love the art style!
Thank you! )
I love the art style. I have to agree with other comments that the game is a little bit hard. I sometimes get blocked by 3 herons, and maybe a visual indicator for how far herons can hear would be great. Still, I think the two mechanics work well. Great job!
Thank you!
Hope you had some fun )
Glad to hear that you think that two mechanics worked. This was the most worrying part of the development.
oh, forgot to tell - herons hear you everywhere ) Even if you run and lose them, one slippery jump gets them on you. You just have to try to avoid jumping past a lilypad)
Suuuuper adorable game
Love ploppin around on lilypads.
I think the game could use with some more game elements, but for round 1 i think its great!
Thank you! )
I intentionally stripped the game of additional elements and mechanics to lean more closely on the 1st round theme. And it helped me to finish the game at all, because I had too many ideas )
Glad you had fun!
i fed so many frogs to these Herons! I did feel an improvement after the 20th time but still I agree, it does feel a bit too hard. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact Herons attack when you make a noise, its great! But perhaps lowering their hearing area and/or attack area.
Love the artstyle on this! The eyes, the ending screens, very nice! In terms of the Jam, I think the two mechanics fit nicely!
Thank you on behalf of the herons )
Yeah, I feared that herons may be too speedy, but when I set speed a little bit lower - they became too slow! Didn't have much time for fine-tuning and return speed on the initial level... 20 tries! I'm very glad you liked the game so much!)
It was very fun to draw this frogs, most of the art I did in the last day - it was very refreshing after endless bugcatching in code ))) Glad you like my art. ( though it may be not that consistent through the game)
Thank you for your reply!
hehe loved it! Wanted to see if I could croak, divert their aim, then jump away (didn't work super well).
Art just on the last day? Looks super consistent to me hehe
That's a viable tactic!
Not all art - lilypads and frogs were drawn early in development, but the frogs were redrawn on the last day, cause they were too cute. (and don't look like frogs). Herons are also in the middle of the process. Maybe I am too harsh on myself ) Thanks)
Interesting gameplay, but it seemed a bit difficult to me. Change the style of the game a little and it will be possible to make a horror. Do not abandon the development of this project after Jam ;)
Thank you for your reply!
Yeah, I agree. In the middle of development, I lowered the speed of the herons and was intended to release game like that. But on the final day I thought, "maybe the game is too easy"? Game is very short, and I thought it didn't hurt to be a little bit harder. I was mistaken)
Horror? Interesting idea! Thanks!
