Cute game! I included it in my GMTK Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

Awesome, thanks so much for checking it out! Things start getting really heated the more melons you need to manage, maybe give it another shot when you have a chance :)

Thank you for submitting your game to the stream!

First of all, the art and parallaxing is just great. This is one of those games that "feels" a lot better when you play than any gifs/screenshots can do it justice. The idea is great as well, I like multitasking games a lot. RTS games used to be my bread and butter.

Unfortunatly they all burned and died in the end haha

Great job!

You hit the nail on the head. Videos, gifs, images really don't sell the game well. Need to come up with something better. I'm a big fan of management games too so many influences coming from that and many more to come.

Great game! Really enjoyed it when things started going faster! :P

Developer

Indeed, quickly gets out of hand. Thanks for playing.

Developer(+1)

Wow! That's impressive! Thanks for playing. Give it another go if you'd like, you missed the best part ;)

people on fire? pls tell me

Developer(+1)

Indeed. Spontaneous combustion. Always a good laugh to see people’s reactions the first time that happens 😂

Submitted(+1)

Cute game! Not sure why they all caught on fire, but I had a good laugh.

Developer

Haha it is quite surprising when all your precious melons start spontaneously combusting. Love the reactions.

Submitted(+1)

really love how simple and cute this is!

Developer(+1)

Thanks :) We're adding more content and melon behaviours in the next update

Submitted(+1)

Cute, simple, and relaxing! Great Job!

Developer

Thank you ^_^

Unique and beautiful game. Immediately gave me Hidden Folks vibes!

Developer

Hidden Folks and Kids were big influences with the style :) Thanks for playing.

I loved the art style and the simple background ambiance and sounds. I found that putting anyone who dislikes anything really far away. If you had forced the camera to stay near the center it would have made it really difficult and get really out of control with everyone wandering.

Developer

Thanks for the suggestion :) Definitely considering this in the next update. Glad you enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

Great concept! I did find a hilarious bug where if you dragged someone against a solid object and release in just the right way, you can yeet them somewhere really far away. Keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

hahaha is it a bug? Or shall we just call it a feature? Thanks for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Really good game! The art style and sound effects created a really relaxing mood until suddenly there were 20 melons all dying. Good work on the game.

Developer

20 melon on fire! You gotta pump those numbers up ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Wow this was fantastic! Artwork is adorable and the gameplay is surprisingly engaging!

Main critique I have is I think some use of colors would help with more quickly identifying melons who are getting sadder. Other than that though I'd say this is a really fantastic little gem you got here with lots of room for expansion and refinement!

Developer

Thanks for the great feedback. We had experimented with colour but it really broke the aesthetic so this design challenge will be a bit trickier to solve. We’ll be improving it this week.

This game was great! The progression loop  goes at just the right pace so that you learn how the game works with 1 or 2 melons and then you suddenly have 10 to take care of lol. Loved the art style as well, it was very cohesive.

If I would suggest anything for the future it might be some way to visually tell the difference between melons so you can get attached to them and identify the one you want quicker.

Overall great experience, thanks!

Developer

Yes! That’s exactly what we were aiming for but didn’t manage to get the procedural character generator implemented in time. Thanks for your great review!

this is pretty great, could use some sort of win condition tho

Developer(+1)

yeh we wondered about switching the game to a level based approach but we ran out of time to seriously consider it :)

Submitted(+1)

Adorable!

I would totally chill out and take care of some melons when they look this good!

Would love to combine with some sort of resources so I can add new things to their park and treat them to nice things!

Could also see that the scenery needs maintenance and that the melons want new things after a while.

Developer

Melon Tycoon here we come =P we did consider switching up their desires once they were fulfilled but opted against it in favor of memorizing who likes and dislikes what do you can get attached to them.

Great work man, I love it

Developer

Thanks man! And yours too!

The core gameplay loop is like herding cats -- and I love it.

There are some unruly folks who claim to want to spend all day in a certain spot, only to immediately sprint away from it as soon as you put them there. I did find that sometimes dropping people next to the pool throws them across the map, but otherwise I encountered no issues. The line art is adorable, the sound effects are great, and the slow build-up to an overwhelming disaster is a great touch.

In the future I could see adding more complex needs for the characters to spice up the late game. Or intentionally naming characters the same thing but with slightly different tastes just to add to the chaos.

Developer

Thanks for the great review! We intended on giving the characters recognisable outfits so you could build up little stories for each as you go so you know who to blame by the time everything ends up in flames.

Submitted

Absolutely! Perhaps a log of character actions (which can be shown/hidden with a click), a la Roller Coaster Tycoon's "Guest 201 has drowned." "Gary has self-immolated due to lack of trees."

Developer(+1)

Yes! Was thinking about keeping the history available for the log since some of them are really great to read. Definitely gonna add more action logs.

Submitted(+1)

This feels like a game I could play on my phone. It's so nice and casual.

Developer

Hmmm I think I might just try an iPad build out ;) Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Visuals are stunning, it is so pleasant to move around and play, the sound design is also great. It wasn't always clear for me where should i be putting the kids, though.

Developer(+1)

Haha yes some of the "clues" are a bit more abstract and some a bit more South African. Just keep dragging them around to figure it out. Thanks for the review :)
