How does your game fit the theme?
Segments are joined together and rotated to solve puzzles. The idea of rotating joined circles is inspired by one of Fourier's contributions to mathematics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6sGWTCMz2k&t=6s

Did your team create the vast majority of the art during the 48 hours?

Pretty fun puzzle! How would you expand on it?

Developer

I'm glad you had fun -- expanding on it would mean creating more puzzles, more segments, and maybe even pairs of arms that have to work together.  As many people commented below, it would also be helpful to come up with a way to help users along who are stuck.

Thanks for leaving a review!

Really cool idea! The mechanics are well done, I feel there is a better way to present the rotation of the arms but I can't think of it. The gameplay felt pretty trial and error to me, but I am also not super smart so that could be more on me than the game ;P. Very original idea and well executed, good work

Most original concept (for me) I’ve seen so far! There are lots of cool puzzle games but this is top notch in puzzle design and theme. Congrats.

Hi,

I am releasing my Catan inspired deck-building tower defense game to steam soon: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2939570/Tower_Knight/

It is not similar to Line Bender, but you might like it :)

As a math fan, I can only find a Fourier game great ! The concept is really smart and the visuals are nice too, well done!

I am literally studying this topic for my next exam xD  That's probably one of the coolest concept i have seen here, also very difficult after some levels!

Submitted(+1)

This is superb, and wonderfully original! I was pleasantly surprised not only at how difficult the puzzles were, but also how addictive they were. Like others have said, there can be a bit of "guess and check" at certain points, but there's an odd amount of intuition that seemed to build up for me. It's already very very nice, but perhaps it could be even better with a bit of ambient background music and a few hints or guide rails for the more difficult levels.

Nice work!

Developer

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the kind words!

Having a hint or rails is a good idea.  If the game can detect that the player is struggling, then actions can be taken to help guide the player.  Nice, I think that's a good feature to consider.

A game about Fourier transforms ? I love this more than I care to admit.

I got stuck around the 13th puzzle. It becomes really hard to visualize how three links will interact through such a complicated level, which made me start to brute force the solution. At that point I decided to call it a day. :-)

Nice haha I'm glad you're enjoying the game.  And no worries, good luck if you decide to pick the game back up!

This is astoundingly addicting, like watching someone trick dunking a basketball and when paired with the poppy sound effects it's just perfect

I definitely didn't expect much since it can be a lot of guess and check work, I did find myself slowly coming to understand what numbers I needed to choose for the right situation, so good on you for making me learn without expecting to hahah

Great job all around :)

@Stokatyan indeed a very great puzzle game loved it very fun to play, sfxs are fitting with the game, love to see more progress on this in the future all the best :D

This game brings me those aha moments along with headaches. The motion line is beautiful. Watching it reach the goal is satisfying. Love it.

Awesome concept! I love Fourier analysis and this definitely helps visualize it! Can definitely be quite difficult, but then again so can Fourier series haha

What. The. What.

I am genuinely worried for you. Doesn't your head hurts with that many brain cells inside ? How does a normal human being can think about such a geniously simple yet terribly complex idea for a 48h jam XD ? You madman/madwoman/madwhatever !

The concept is extraordinary, that's such a good idea for a puzzle game. Like the others said, it's really difficult to make the player think with rotations, and it mostly comes to trial and error. I have no idea how you could do a better job to make the player think, because this is such a unique concept... Maybe it would require a LOT of levels, with a carefully crafted difficulty curve, I don't know...

Nonetheless, I loved the concept. This has a HUGE potential. Congrats !

I do really enjoy physicsbased puzzlers, and I must say that this is one of the most original ones I've seen in a long time! The pretty basic graphics do work very well with the gameplay, especially with that dope motion line.

The game is definetley very difficult, I guess especially if you're not familiar with Fourier's Circles (me hehe), but the gameplay loop was aslo definetley still fun enough to keep going! I do still think it might have benefitted from something that could make it easier for people if they wanted to, something like a pause function mid-try that could help people figure out where they're going wrong maybe?

But overall really enjoyed it, great job! :D

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed Line Bender!

You bring up a good point that many others have shared as well.  I'm not so certain about the pause function because it may affect the pace of the game, but you are certainly correct that many players will benefit from an optional way of making it easier.  I'd really like to come up with a way to make the game easier for some players, without making them feel like they were robbed of a chance to discover a solution.

That's what I will be pondering for the next few days.  Thanks for sharing your feedback!

Great game !!!

Took me a while to figure out the mechanics and logic behind it but once I had an idea the game was quite enjoyable.

Im not really good at it, and after the level with 3 rotating pieces I was just guessing, my brain couldnt handle it but its a great and interesting concept !!!

Really good concept and the gamplay WOULD have been good if it was easier to understand, and I wasn't just trying random things. I never get to learn what works and what doesn't. I just try random configurations until I get one that works

Developer

Thanks for sharing!  I think you're right, but I also think that a big part of the game is exploring configurations.  I think the next step is for me to figure out how to make the "randomness" feel more like "exploration".  In any case, thanks for checking out Line Bender!
