How does your game fit the theme?
Aggressive Sales Tactics approaches this theme from two different angles. It is a reverse tower defense game where the player spawns units to walk down a path and attack hostile towers. However it is also a merchant simulator. In most games the player would buy weapons from a merchant, but there are few games where you play as a merchant yourself. In this game you will need to find a balance between sending units promptly down the path to eliminate the towers before they overrun the town, and keeping customers in your store long enough for them to spend a little more coin for you to upgrade your shop and make even more profit!

Did your team create the vast majority of the art during the 48 hours?

The game looks really good and the overall concept is solid. Def more straight forward than most reverse tower defense games Ive played so far. Great job!

Great game. Enjoyed a lot the graphics and the interpretation of the theme. The game was a bit laggy but overall a great game! Well done

I get like 5fps. I wish I had a decent pc for ue games😭

Developer

I'm sorry to hear that, game was made in just 48 hours so it isn't well optimmised but we are going to make some updates in the future

This idea is super solid and the push and pull between deciding whether to make profit or gear up your patrons is really good. The balancing here specifically could use some work but otherwise I think there is a lot of potential here. Great job!

Developer

Hey, I'm really glad you liked it! We know about balancing issues, unfortunately we didn't have time to balance the game properly. We will be updating the game in future so you can check it out then!

Nice job on this! I love the look of the game for something that was made in a game jam - I'm a sucker for mixing 2D and 3D haha. The game took me a round of failing before the instructions clicked, but once I got going it was enjoyable, but a bit easy to keep up once it got going.

Really nice job with this! I love the concept and the aesthetic. Little bits of feedback on things like fighter health, tower damage, or +/- values to money would take this a long way (as it is, I had trouble tracking what was going on onscreen). But I'll repeat what others have said - This feels like a week of work to get such a polished demo, and getting it done in a weekend is an incredible accomplishment. I feel like it could become a small indie title if you chose to expand on it :)

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback Nicoadams!  All the things youve mentioned are definitely on the list to update to the game.  We did work really hard to get it in the state it is so quickly and i'd love to polish up this core and do something with it!

I like the concept and framing of the gameplay mixing reverse tower defense games and merchant simulators, have a lot of fun with it. Can't believe all the art is made on the same

I think that when the tower gets damaged should have some feedback to the player, for now, the tower feels like just disappear.

The game is quite fun. I would like to have some indications for the health of the tower, and maybe consider making the towers get more powerful over time. Maybe because I was playing for a short amount of time, but it gets to a point where I can manage a sustainable income while just mindlessly sending units out.

i could play this game for a long time

Glad you liked the vibes AIA! Thanks so much for playing!

How... just how was this done in 48 hours?? Love the mix of art styles and gameplay modes! Super impressed!

It's an ambitious choice to try and role reverse not one but two games, as well as take on a 3D game during a game jam. I think for the most part, the idea works. People have already mentioned the text tutorial and overall game pace, but the fact that we can kind of figure out the gameplay despite so does demonstrate the idea's potential.

I do find the environment and sprites very well done, but I'm not a fan of how the sprites look alongside the smooth, more modern 2D UI. The sprites look more at home on the 3D map than it does there. I mentioned Octopath Traveller in DMs, but that's a good reference for UI that might work with the sprites. A flat black translucent rectangle might look more cohesive than bright orange, and you wouldn't have had to create any more assets either.

For the tower defense portion, feedback on units attacking towers would greatly help the game feel. Likewise with the shop, a little "dingling" chime when customers enter the shop would also help immensely. Never underestimate the importance of audio in a game, even if it's not one of the elements you see on the front page.

What this game is is ambitious, and for a 48 hour game jam, it might have helped to scope down in either the art (you can't cheat the environment in 3D) or the gameplay (for time to make a tutorial) to achieve something that's more polished. That said, the fact that your team has accomplished what it has in a surprisingly stable state is a testament to your abilities. Good job!

Developer

Hey forcasualplayers, thanks a lot for trying our game and the really specific feedback!  We're looking to continue working and polishing the game up soon.  I definitely want to start by adding a tutorial and more polish like more sounds for different actions, and I really appreciate the specific feedback on the UI.  I hope you get to see it when it gets updated!

Developer

Thank you for such a complex review! We plan to make some updates so we value your feedback. We will try some new UI designs, and definitely add better tutorial!

Interesting trade off with the merchant side and sending units. I liked how you guys put everything together for the jam.

The game is really nice. With different types of art mixed together in a good way in the game. I would prefer the tutorial not to be just text based but its ok. The shop mechanic is really good and fun but the game is really easy. Overall the game is really good and you applied effort to it. Really good!

Unfortunately we run out of time to balance it well. I'm glad you liked it!

Fun idea, this is my kind of take on the tower defense! Definitely on the easy side, doesn't seem to really ramp up too much but I had fun with it. A couple things I'd suggest:

  • Make it easier to see all the towers, some were behind buttons.
  • Make the customers leave when they run out of gold. I don't want any loitering in my shop lol
  • Give me a better indication when all the towers are up, some kind of meter that fills up or a warning textbox
  • Let me unpause with the same button I used to pause

Thank you for playing and your feedback!  These are all points i plan to address for sure, just ran out of time!

Really cool idea, i LOVE the art style, well done

I like the addition of the shop keeping which makes the game stand out, that and the great art. However even with the shop it felt like there wasn't much strategy involved, and I managed to steamroll the towers without buying any upgrades. But great overall execution anyways!

Developer

I'm happy you like it! We didn't have time to balance it very well before deadline so it is a bit to easy, we will make updates after the jam ends

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I like the idea behind it, although I didn't fully understand the mechanic behind the shop! Pretty fun to just steam-roll the towers though :D
Good job, well made! Especially if you made all the art and models yourself!

I'm glad you liked our game and keep an eye out for updates!

I really liked the idea and the fact that for a change you are acutally the shop keeper. I also loved the mix of 2D and 3D, that worked really well. I did however feel like the overall difficulty was a bit easy, especially once you get up and running. I only ended up losing because I stopped buying units to see if you can lose at all - nevertheless I had a great time and also love that you could choose your soldiers' classes. Well done!

Finally, time to bust those towers down! I think it would be better if the whole game was in such 2d pipeline, looks neat. Fun to play (*take that you nasty tower*). Well done!
