I see you have some dummies too as you said! Very cute art style guys, also cool level design, I like this! <3

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, your game is awesome too!

I love the title lmao. This was quite good.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, it was supposed to be a pun with "plants vs zombies"

Good game!

As I mentioned in the response of your message to my entry. It's really cool that we had the same idea and I love your approach!

It's very polished and level design is awesome.
Very smart of you to pause the game to modify the level. Doing it in realtime as I did was a headache ;P

I'm wondering which pathfinding algorithm did you use. Was it a standard A* modified or something else?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for your feedback!

For the character movement we tried to use A* but it was too hard to implement in a platformer context, so we took the easy way out and just shoot a bunch of raycasts to look for walls and holes on the floor

Cool game, though a bit tricky later on.

Developer

Yeah, we didn't have much time to playtest the levels, so this was expected. Sorry about that

Submitted(+2)

I really like the music ^^ The player movement also felt smooth, that's really well done! I wonder if it might be possible to move the blocks around without pausing, but I'm not sure if that'd allow cheesy strategies to work. Great game!

Developer

We had a moment in development where there was no pause, but we as a group agreed it didn't feel right. Maybe we could revisit this idea, it is interesting.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback!

Super polished and creative idea!

The puzzles are easy to get into but not as easy as they look like in the first place (which is good thing!)

Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks, glad to know how you feel about our game!

Haha, yeah, not everything is as simple as it looks.

Thank you! :D

CONGRATULATIONS! this is one of the best games in the jam! Really CLEAVER game with great presentation! Really welldone!!! After the jam with some simple fx sounds it would be perfect! Great design with cleaver "no tutorial". GREAT DESIGN! 5/5

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We really appreciate your comment and it makes us so happy to know you feel like that for our game.

This is the kind of comment that motivates us! ^^

Yeah, as a post-jam feature, it would be nice to have some sfx to improve it, totally agree!

My expectations weren't that great during the first one or two level to be honest, but I honestly think its one of the best platform puzzle games I've played this GMTK.

The controls are a bit finicky at times but the puzzles felt surprisingly really good. Solutions were never obvious but also not frustrating (at least to me). The only QOL feature I'd add is a speedup button for when you have to wait for the dummy to come back to where you need him to be.

Really good job on the level/puzzle design! Impressive!

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you for your kind words. Happy to know you enjoyed it and considers it one of the greatest you played! :D

We kept the first two levels easy for a initial understanding of the mechanics, specially for users without much familiarity with puzzles games, so I can see how your expectations weren't that high during the first 2 levels.

A speedup button for sure would be a great addition, I totally agree and we actually thought about it, but couldn't implement it due time. So, yeah, for post-jam features, that probably would be one of the first items in our to-do list.

We appreciate your feedback and glad you liked the puzzles :D

Nice Puzzler! A well-crafted selection of levels that tested my problem solving skills. Even the first level took me a while to wrap my head around. Good stuff!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you for your kind words and your feedback :D

Pretty interesting idea, and who doesn’t love a good sliding block puzzle?

I think the fact that you can pause the game to slide blocks at any time doesn’t actually work in favour of the game, as it increases the possibility space to practically infinity and makes the design space pretty hard to navigate. Maybe having checkpoint zones during which you can set up the next part of the level would be more fun?

Good start, though. Could turn into a neat little puzzle platformer!

Developer

Thank yoou! Haha, you are right! Puzzles with sliding blocks are always fun XD

It all depends how messy you can get with the blocks. The last 2 levels were designed in a way it was meant to "lock" players in some places that they would have to remanage blocks to figure out a way out of these pitfalls. But the "infinite possibilites " problem is a thing and we might need to think in another way of solving it.

But I think I understand your feedback and I could see your suggestion as a legit mechanic for some levels. Thanks for the feedback, it is really helpful if we keep developing this game after the jam.

I really liked the puzzles here. It reminds me of the unblock the car puzzle games but with a timing element.
