How does your game fit the theme?
My game is a variation of 2048 using rock-paper-scissors kind of relation. As you progress through the game, it is scaling in 3 dimensions - board size, amount of elements in the game, and difficulty (amount of tiles being spawned each turn)

I like this twist on the tried concept, simple graphics but they accomplish their purpose very well.

I reached the endgame so that should tell you that I enjoyed it, good job!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed :)

god i hated the anchors, but it was a really good addition to the game. Dont take me wrong, i really loved it, but made the classic strategy of 2048 useless hahaha GG

Developer

I feel you there! Thank you and glad you enjoyed :)

Good entry. Nice idea of using rock-scissor-paper. Full gameplay. I would work a little bit on the balance. I could randomly click the buttons and I went to the endless mode. But yes, there I lost pretty quick :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :)

Indeed random clicking works in the larger boards, that's why I introduced the endgame loss condition to scale up the difficulty.

The idea was to get most of the players (even the ones who just mash buttons) pretty far in the game, but only the strategic ones will actually achieve a very high score.

Really cool! It gets really addicting once you get the engine going.

There was a weird difficulty curve, in that it's sort of inverted? E.g. the 2x2 grid is basically the most difficult (I keep getting into deadlocks seemingly without any way of avoiding it. But once I got past to the 4x4 grid, it got more manageable.

I enjoyed the extra additions to the original three types -- that was cool. The controls and UI was also really clear and good looking. Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :)

Indeed it's inverted in a way that losing in a 2x2 is easier than in a 4x4 - that's why I introduced the endgame feature, where getting a full board is the loss condition. I believe that at this point the difficulty is the highest.

Also, since 2x2 is just for the first couple of moves I figured that it would (kindly) force players to adjust to a strategic play style from the get to, and if they're unlucky - there's a quick restart, when there's barely any progress made, so no harm.

But I do agree it could've been a smoother curve. Thanks again for your input!

Very satisfying to get everything going :)

Thanks! :)

Very nicely done! The advanced version of "rock paper scissors" with elements of scaling and its unique charm with simple yet very charismatistic artstyle made it very fun! I greatly enjoyed this one :)

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed :)

Had a fun time figuring this out, quite challenging at some points.
I like the twists with the additional items being added and how the game expands in scope, or should I say "scale"?

Developer

You should! Thank you and glad you enjoyed it :)

Cozy game, a bit challenging to find the best combo to finish each level the fastest because you have unlimited moves, maybe add a limit to prevent random moves ?

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I like this idea.

I was aiming towards optimizing by score, not the amount of moves - since the score for each swipe is [Number of winning tiles in all interactions across the board] x [Number of destroyed tiles], then you get a better score for moves that affect the most tiles. But I can see how limiting the number of moves can add a challenge!

What a hidden gem. This game is very cool! I love the concept which extends 2048. I thought it would only be "paper scissors stone". No, there are more! I guess there is difficulty balancing behind too. Fun to play!

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words! Glad you enjoyed :)

The style is lovely and helps make it a very satisfying game to play.  Including all of the matchups on the side of the screen was very helpful, since it becomes quite a lot to keep track of!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :)

Sharp and well executed concept, though I was able to get pretty far along just randomly pressing buttons. I think this is a product of the odds being fairly high that any given move will eliminate something. Can still get embroiled in some particularly tricky positions though after some time. Solid background music as well.

Developer

Thank you very much.

I agree with your point and the reasoning. When I had the difficulty curve in mind, I decided I rather that it'd be more easy, such that random button mashing will still get you ahead to unlock and see most of the content the game has to offer, but won't get you very high on the high-score aspect.

Please make this in a full game it is great! I love 2048 and playing it with rock paper scissors was amazing!

Developer

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed. If time will allow I might give it a go and make it a full game :)

I really liked the way you took the existing idea of 2048 and the theme of the jam and combined them to make this! I had so much fun playing it!

really cool concept of combing rock-paper-scissors with 2048. the new elements are introduced in a very beginner-friendly manner and the difficulty curve felt just right. the visuals are charming and the background music suited the game perfectly. great job!

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words! :)

I loved every second of it. The Music is relaxing and well chosen for a puzzle game like this. The mechanics are generally really well balanced. And, most importantly, i rly had a lot of fun playing this.

(Also, i don't know if its just my bad luck, but i had it happen multiple times, that during the first few rounds, i had  4 of the same spawn in a row, meaning i couldnt do anything to save myself xD)

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed.

Indeed some bad luck at the start could ruin the run. Should have prevented those auto-loss starts, but that's for next time :)

EDIT: Sadly, I can't play your game, I'm using a Mac. If you ever build for it/WebGL, let me know!

Really fun concept and reinterpretation of 2048, and great execution. Feels like a complete game.

Balance wise -- I think the game is a little hard to approach -- it took me several tries to scale past 2x2. I don't know if tile spawns are completely random or not -- regardless I would suggest adding a mechanism that gives the player what they need more often.

I seemed to always be getting stuck with a ton of rocks an no way to deal with them. Especially in the mid game (which is about as far as I got), nothing but paper removes rocks, and everything seems to remove paper.

Theme match is OK -- I like the scaling board, I would have preferred if the game somehow leaned into that a bit more. Maybe by having tiles of different sizes as things scaled?

Overall, the quality here is high, and I really enjoyed it. Very solid entry.

Developer

Thank you for your thorough response, I really appreciate that.

I agree with all your points:

1. The balance isn't perfect, especially at the start, where a bit of bad luck can fill up your board quite quickly, and it's not that hard to build a mechanism that prevents it.

2. The last theme implementation of scaling I wanted to add is to be able to combine 2/4 elements into a larger tile of the same element (1x2 or 2x2 tile). Code-wise it demanded many changes which I couldn't do in time for the jam, but it was in mind.

Glad you enjoyed!

An enjoyable and creative puzzle experience! My best score was 453 so far, I really like the rock-paper-scissors relations mixed with the elements (water, fire, grass), adds more to the complexity C:

Developer

Thank you very much! That's a solid score :)
