Some of the requirements like the X and the Y positions were hard to understand, but I still had a great time playing the game and running around rooms to do various tasks the game is asking me to do. Great job on the game!

Developer

Yeah, I think if I had named X and Y to Row and Column it would be alot more clear. Definitely doing that post jam, thank you for playing!

Such juicy animations! Kind of difficult to understand though...

Developer

Thank you! It is a bit tasking on the brain yes, but after you realise you are not moving the doors to rooms, but the rooms themselves, it starts to click. So as I have heard though, I hope you enjoyed it regardless!

Really well done style and idea! I feel like I'm too stupid to get it though and the timer is making it hard for me to figure out haha

Developer

Thank you! The time is tuned for that period where you grasp the mechanics rather well and can go a couple of cycles, its supposed to get overwhelming after a while, focus on what you can do! People usually get the hang of the game in a couple attempts, why not try a few more runs?

Love the simplistic yet detailed pixel art visual design on this one. Quite confused on what to do but once I get it, it becomes a tricky puzzle game to complete. The sound design is very interactive on the feedback. Love my man Jeff.

Developer

Jeffrey is usually less gloomy, hes a bit upset right now though because he is on a rather tight schedule. Thank you!

The pixel art is really charming!

very cool door installation game! Reminds mee of monster's inc and Doraemon's anywhere door.

Developer

Im glad you enjoyed it!

This game has an awesome aesthetic and I love the idea for it. Although I don't think I was any good at it, and it seems like a very skillful game. I think if there was more a tutorial I would have a better time but otherwise this game is awesome!!

Developer

I figured people would try the games mechanics since its the first things people usually try, but adding at least an indicator to the door rack showing its interactable or a bunch more tiny things like that without too much hand holding could benefit the game. Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Oh my, I kinda undestand how its working, but still couldn't solve the task. The execution is very good, well done!

Developer(+1)

Yes, the game is a little complicated to figure out, since you gotta learn how you are moving rooms, not doors, but Im sure you can figure it out in a couple of runs!

Thank you for playing!

What a creative idea. I think you should have taught a little more in the beginning so that the goal is better defined, but overall it was interesting. Good job.

Developer

I figured letting the player loose would make them learn for themselves, since pressing A on the door rack, placing it down and picking it back up are all things people usually try first, but I maybe I could have indicated door rack was interactable at least

Thank you!

Very cool game! the idea is very unique and well executed and the art is really nice. I don't really have criticism for this, Good job!

Developer

Thank you!

Impressive ! Great concept and art direction ! Both chaotic and clever. I'm definitely going back to this one

Developer

Im glad you enjoyed it!

The concept is very cool ! I could totally enjoy it but sadly, I am too dumb to succeed in this type of games. It is very well executed though, and eventhough you used assets for the sounds and music, you used them correctly (really like the slowing down of the music when you lose).

Conclusion : very charming but I am dumb.

Developer

It is indeed very tasking on the brain, but most get the hang of it after a couple runs, why not try one more?

Thank you for playing!

Pretty chaotic and fun concept with easy controls, but there is a room-gym combo where you get stuck and a loop.

Developer (2 edits)

If it is related to the navigation, yes, you can detach yourself from the rest of the hotel and get stuck with only 2 rooms, but its not difficult bridging back to the big mass by entering the direction of your choice, grabbing the room you just got out of and carrying it to the side you want to go to, rinse and repeat. You can always reference the map for help!

If its related to the ratings being stuck in a loop and keep increasing/decreasing forever though, I have no clue, i dont think that can even happen since i loop over an array with a limited number of entries while checking it

Do you remember how you produced it and maybe try produce it again? It may be you not grasping the mechanics that well if its the former!

I really like the chaos of running and placing doors around. The art style and music complement it really well. I think it's a super creative idea and connects to the theme in an interesting way. The mechanics and controls were a little confusing at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. Congrats on getting a game submitted!

Developer

Thanks so much! Im glad you enjoyed it!

Very funny game! I enjoyed my time with it and the quirky characters and music (even though if not custom made for it) really add to it

Developer

Thank you! As I have said in another comment, the game idea and the music were suddenly dawned to me after thinking for a couple of minutes, shocking how well they match together

This got very hectic very fast. I love it!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

This was such a smart idea for a game! I feel like the frantic running around paired with the seemingly endless taks really accentuate the idea of being part of the hotel staff lol. Also, I gotta say, I abolutely LOVED the aesthetic. The blocky style and cartoonish animation reminded me a lot of one of my favorite games ever, Super Paper Mario, but with kind of a retro game feel to it (also, the lil guy moving around was very Mr. Krabs coded which is fantastic). Only piece of advice if you'd like to continue making the game would be to get a music designer for the ost, as I feel the game deserves its own score, but the music you chose this time worked wonderfully to built tension regardless. Overall, such an amazing experience!! :)

Developer

Seems like I have achieved exactly what I wanted! Thank you so much for playing the game!

I thought of asking one of my friends for music, but then this specific kevin macleod music started playing in my head for some reason, as if its sent by god just like the game idea itself, and I KNEW i had to pick it

This is a really, really fun concept that looks like it has a ton of potential! I wish you had more time to flesh it out - here's some ideas that I think could make the game nicer and more manageable if you revisit it later:

  • Really embrace the frantic feeling by speeding up the music more and more when you have a lot of doors to place or unfilled requirements, this is also a good audio cue for players
  • Have the residents of the rooms play sounds when you pass by them if they have more requirements
  • Make the map larger and have the invalid rooms flash a color, maybe flashing faster/brighter depending on their importance - this would also be nice to see on the doors themselves
  • Allow the player to swap the room in their hands with the room they're standing in front of
  • Let the player see the requirements for a room before placing it down
  • Visually offset the front and back doors a bit up/down for extra clarity on which is back or forward
  • Instead of X: Y: to show the grid position, maybe Row: X Col: Y split on two separate lines would be easier to read
  • For it to reaally scale, I think you'd eventually need to unlock some new special room types like an elevator warp that can take you between two or more rooms instantly

Really great game overall though!

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

These are some really good suggestions! I dont think I could have added all these during the jam unless I pulled alot of all nighters but for a post jam update these are phenomenal!

  • The maps size and colors not flashing are sadly a limitation the game had to work due to how I coded it, it used to be a debugging feature turned into a map, so its very archaic. I didn't have enough time to completely rewamp the map due to the jams time constraints
  • I got alot of door adjustments, but I am personally really happy with how they are, and I figured making the back door transparent as well as giving all doors a direction would help alot with it. I am not so sure about swapping doors, but I will give a shot at attempting showing doors you are holdings requirements!
  • I really like the elevator idea! I may take that directly even though it would probably take an overhaul to the map to work properly, which is a bit difficult since the code is, honestly, extremely spagetti

Thank you for your feedback, its nice seeing someone so passionate about giving feedback like this!

Developer

Oh and I forgot to state this (I was writing this while I was outside) the music already speeds up, but it may be buggy on the web build? I thought I fixed it but its very slight right now, maybe you didnt notice it

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed the game, all the assets are well-made and it was charming!

I think either giving the player a way to see a list of what room requirements they missed last time, or describing the room requirements in the game's description would help, since they go by onscreen a bit too fast for me to read and fully process what it entails.

Developer

Thank you! There were actually supposed to be 2 text boxes under the first ones, and it was going to scroll down so you would have more time to read everything, but I couldnt add that due time constraints. Im glad you enjoyed it!
