For science! Great and challenging game :)
fun concept! took me a little while to figure out how to use the grappling hook well, but after figuring out it was very interesting! could've been better if the walls that I could hook and could not were easier to distinguish. still a great job!
I really enjoyed the game! It took a little bit for me to get a handle on the controls, but I think I got a handle on it. Still was a bit challenging, which is definitely partly a skill problem on my end. The art and music had a cohesive style!
I might suggest removing one or two of the initials bats to give the player more of a chance to get a handle on the game and get that first power-up, but otherwise if this is intended to be a difficult game, I think it provides a healthy challenge. Well done on the game!
There is a grappling hook ? hmm that's my jam!
I could definitely sink a lot of time into this! It's super fun and a great concept ! :)
I like art style and grappling hook, the gameplay is fairly challenging
Quite a well-made arcade game!
Difficulty scaling increases perhaps a bit too quick, but the game allows for quick restarts after it, so you immediately want to play another game right after a failure.
Thumbs up!
Nice game! I really enjoyed the music and the art :)
First few tries it's hard not to fall in lava 😭
Since I didn't manage to get that far I was wondering, is there a way to see our progression, or is there an end to see?
Thanks, and congrats for the game!
There's an end, but not very polished, so, you didn't miss a lot. We didn't manage to finish the cinematic ending, it was too much!
I can only understand! You did an outstanding job still, you can be proud of it!
Extremely underrated game, very polished and with lots of mechanics! Even has cutscenes and a bit of story!
I really like the pixel art style. Everything is really endearing and pleasing to look at. The game drops you in without too much faffing about, as an arcade game should.
One rather major issue that sort of feeds into everything else, you have a bunch of tutorial messages pop up that you expect the player to read at the same time the lava starts rising, so there really is no way to actually learn the controls before instantly dying. And then your energy runs out almost immediately and you get swarmed by half a dozen bats that take several hits to kill. The game should NOT start out this brutal. Tutorial messages like "proximity to lava restores energy" are useful, IF the player could actually read them and wasn't so focused on the hundred other things being thrown at them.
There's definitely potential here, but it is really rough as is. I think the biggest problem is forcing the player to use energy for both flight AND grappling hook, because as others have stated, you're basically already dead because of the BILLION FREAKING BATS THAT TAKE MULTIPLE HITS.
The only way to beat it is to play in a way that's not fun. You want to outrun the lava. That's the entire point of the game. The story encourages you to do it, but then you're punished for doing so. You're forced to hover close to it in order to restore your energy, which I think should be an advanced tactic, not a required one.
Thank u so much for your review, the problems u enlisted are the ones we struggled with during the last few hours of development. Thanks! We really appreciate it!
The game was engaging and I got stubborn and kept playing it until I beat it.
There are a lot of things here, and some ended up not meshing too well. The energy capacity is very low, and you're a sitting duck when you're out of energy, which also makes the weapons more of a liability. The best strat for me was to hover close to the lava and use the hook as a weapon. But this also means I didn't use the hook for mobility by grappling to walls, and I didn't want to pick weapons from upgrades. A more minor issue was the upgrades offering duplicates.
I don't mean to sound harsh, I enjoyed playing it. There are good things in there, like the knockback on the hook made combat feel great against multiple enemies. It just feels like it needs some tweaks. Give me a reason to use weapons. Give me a reason to use the hook for mobility. Not sure how to tweak it, but more generous energy seems like a good start.
This is game was a ton of fun and I spent entirely too long playing it haha! I agree with some of the other comments that it didn't feel great to run out of energy and then get beaten down by bats. Maybe you could have the bats die if they touch you? I think my favourite part of this game was the music! It was really creative so great job on that! :)
Thanks! Yeah, die like bees!
A fellow game with a grappling hook!!
I loved the pixel art for this, especially the little intro cutscene. The UI was really good too, I loved how animated the text was, especially how the text in the pause menu swung around. I also liked how unique the controls/gameplay were, the only thing I didn't like about them was how the bats could just stay inside your ship after they hit you, it made it really hard to recover if you were already low on energy. Other than that it was a really fun game though! Good work!
For science! :)
Also thank you for trading reviews with us!! Appreciate it a TON!
The art is soo so cute!!! I loved the UI too! The only thing I would change is to make the words appear faster so we don't have to sit through and wait for the animation swipe to finish. And for the pixel art wise is if all pixel squares were the same size (for example the VFX's smoke pixels looked a bit smaller than the background's pixel hehe).
The gameplay was the most fun and I think the camera shakes really added a lot to the impact!
Great work overall!!! Nailed the stunning and fun game criteria!
Thank you very much for the tip and your comment! There were a lot of things to polish visually, you're certainly right!
Absolutely delightful little game! I did encounter a small bug though, where after dying the scientist got stuck in the build animation, which required a restart to fix. But besides that, shows some serious promise, and looks/sounds fantastic! Great job!
Thanks! Your's too!!
Very fun, and thank you for suggesting we share games!
Constructively, I wish that one of the player abilities didn't require power. Its too easy to lose power and its such a bad thing that you become useless. Too often I was fully disabled and then beaten down by bats.
Awesome game nevertheless!
Thank u! Yeah, we struggled with the rechargeable battery, but we never made up our minds about it.
Ta dificil pero ta muy bueno, musica 10/10, assets y effectos re divinurah
really hard but really fun!
Really cool idea! Fantastic art and gameplay that is difficult to get the hang of but very fun once you do.
The concept is very original, and its difficulty makes it quite a challenge. I was only able to win once; it’s like a bullet hell game, but with bats instead of bullets and with engaging ship assembly mechanics
