How does your game fit the theme?
I wanted to show the difference of scale between an ant and the world around it. The ant is quite tiny and is avoiding "giant" feet.

Interesting game about being stepped on.

The art style is very nice and cute, although the gameplay gets repetitive after a while. I think it would be nice if there were some more visual feedback for the stomp, maybe some particles to make it look stronger. Also, great choice of food! I think that overall, the gameplay is fine, the art is great, but it lacks some juice.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I wholly agree, there’s a lot less feedback for things like the stomp, grabbing good, or dropping it off at the anthill than I’d like.

Pretty fun! It gets a little repetitive after a while, but the cute artstyle and solid movement it's a nice game for at least a couple of minutes :D maybe adding some extra gameplay mechanics or making more involved level design could add more playtime?

I like the art style. Fun little game. Took me a second to realize I had to get the cheese to the ant hill. I also accidentally fell out of bounds from a dash with the cheese to the ant hill. One constructive criticism I have. When the warning for the foot comes out. Sometimes it can be a little in front of the player and I end up dashing right into the foot. The solution I would propose is this. When the player enters the area that triggers a foot warning. It should center the warning on the players current position. Then the player just needs to dash out of the way.

5/5

Thanks for playing and leaving a helpful review! I agree, I think the foot spawns & warnings could absolutely be tuned up. I wish I had play tested more before I posted!

no worries. The whole point of the jam is to improve as developers by getting feedback from players.

the ant is just a  silly little guy, cute fun game. great job making it!

Super fun and cute little game, it feels so satisfying to weave past the feet and dominate those pesky humans! Got tons of fans, I love being a famous cheese-eating ant. Highly recommended!

I like playing as a silly little ant. He's just so small and goofy. I love him. The core gameplay loop is extremely solid, and the art is charming and quite well done. My only gripe with the game is that it can be kinda inconsistent exactly where the foot drops in relation to the warning, which makes dodging feel kinda inconsistent. Even though I don't normally enjoy slippery controls, they pair very nicely with the dash's ability to let you turn around at a moment's notice. Solid work!

I'm just an ant now. An ant that LOVES swiss cheese. You can try to stop me, but you can't. Your big feet are too slow... actually, the aren't. It's so hard to dodge even with the warning lol. It feels kinda RNG as to whether or not you get a warning right on your face or not. If so, you're done! No way to dodge the feet if you get unlucky.

But alas, that's just the life of an ant lol. Sometimes you get the cheese. Sometimes the cheese gets you!
Fun game, thanks for making this!

Love the art style, so cute! And the general idea is executed very well, simple concept but so fun :D

I've seen a few ant games so far and this on has the cutest ant by far!

Submitted(+1)

Cute game! No complains other than the fact that there are no walls behind the starting point - when I got the cheese back, I dashed off the floor and fell into the abyss haha.

Nice!!!, the feet are very fast, is like sekiro with ants!!

Developer

Hahaha thanks, maybe I subconsciously pulled from my recent Sekiro playthrough!

it’s throwing me this error, maybe it’s a problem on my end?

Error: Couldn't load project data at path ".". Is the .pck file missing?

If you've renamed the executable, the associated .pck file should also be renamed to match the executable's name (without the extension).
Developer

Oh weird, I wonder what’s causing that. What browser are you using?

here are my thoughts:

  • the art style's very nice and unique - fun to see a game jam game that's not pixel art!
  • the movement back-and-forth across the map means that the game gets to feel very repetitive after a while. maybe this could fixed by adding more interesting obstacles, but idk.
  • the feet are very easy to avoid, once you get the hang of the dash mechanic. you can basically just spam dash and stop if a leg is about to come down in front of you.
  • the dash button is in a weird spot. i understand the idea of using one hand on WASD and the other on J, but maybe it would have been easier to use shift or even left click, since most people navigating to your game will already have one hand on the mouse and one on the keyboard.
  • in the same way, needing to use the keyboard to navigate the menu is a little unintuitive at first, but i think it's fine since you only use the keyboard to control the game anyway.

overall though, really nice work, can't wait to see what you make in the future!

Developer

Thank you for the detailed review, I really appreciate it! I definitely agree about the repetitiveness of the game; I’d originally planned on having other food fall in that open area that you could climb, like a dynamic platforming type of thing, but I ran out of time to implement it.

my only complaints are no mouse control, the dash button being on a weird key, and the feet being to difficult to dodge a lot of the times.

otherwise, really cute game, and i love the style!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! Really liked the art style and the sounds fit very well. Saw someone else mention they expected mouse support for the main menu and wanted to say I also felt the same way.

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely loved the style and concept! Very difficult game tho... especially since I just feel like i wanna go so fast!

(+1)

Love the art, especially the ants jumping animation. Nice and fitting sound effects as well.

Of course one of the first things I did was go left :3

As other comments has stated, a dash would be nice or another way to defend or avoid the stomps.

Submitted(+1)

The art is great! I found it very difficult to dodge the feet, but spamming dash seemed to do the trick without many close calls. I unfortunately fell off the edge to the left when I dashed a little too far. I was expecting mouse support on the title screen.

The sound effects are great. Thank you for making this!

Developer(+2)

Oop, I knew forgot to add a protective edge somewhere! Thank you for the constructive criticism, and thank you for playing!
