Really fun game! A true enjoyment, sfx were a bit obnoxious though.
high rating (:

high rating (:
Really satisfying gameplay look that feels like a game of tug of war between solidifying defenses and expanding upwards. The tile select and placing were a bit frustrating as they felt like they ignored my inputs sometimes, but that didn't detract much from my enjoyment of the main game!
really fun tower defence game that has strikes good balance between expanding and gearing up!
I really liked how you couldn’t just build all the way up and needed a solid foundation to do so. I also liked how the difficulty scaled with how far up you went instead of how long you spent, that made it manageable.
Thanks for playing, and for noticing my design choices! The former is as noted an anti-cheesing measure, the second was inspired by a GMTK video where he talked about how Tetris gets more difficult in a natural fashion as the layers of brick on screen grows deeper, so I went for something vaguely similar.
Honestly the core gameplay is really, really good. Having to balance building up your tower, managing solar plants and turrets, while your core structure slowly sinks into the ground from alien attacks - it really gives me a Plants vs Zombies 1 feeling in the best ways. I did have some issue with the controls, there always felt like a delay when trying to place blocks and it got a little frustrating. I also kept trying to make overhangs with my structure and it took me a while to realise I couldn’t do it. The core design is absolutely there - a little bit more polish (although yeah this was within 48 hours) and I could lose hours to this.
The sound was kinda unbearable, but I had fun and finished it. It was a bit unclear how effective the solar panels were, but the game isn't difficult enough to be frustrating, so that's not too much of a problem. I was unsure at first if the block shaking were a bug or feature, but I figured it was happenning when building too high too fast. That made things interesting, but I'm curious as how the mechanic exactly works ?
The solar panels make a big difference, but if you put them on or close to the ground you need a bunch of them. The "unstable tile" mechanism work by checking for ground or scaffold tiles three blocks down on each side of the block. If there's any other kind of tile there the block is deemed "unstable" and is rotated by a small random number each frame. When trying to build the game checks that the base isn't unstable.
Really fun game you're making here:D
I really like the idea here. Tower defense but with one big scalable tower. This is awesome dude. The simplicity makes this pretty fun and it's one of those games where I think you found the magic pretty quickly in the prototype/jam game! Now, if you wanted, you could easily scale this to add all sorts of fun content.
Personal Preferences: Some flashier art and music/sfx. I understand it's a jam game so not knocking your rating because of this, just saying, I could see this game become super popular with a little love for the presentation.
Overall though, I enjoyed playing this a lot and could see how it could become an incredible game. Great job and congrats on your first game in 25+ years! That's awesome!
Thanks a lot, both for the kinds words and the tips!
Cool, building the tower is awesome. I didn´t always understand, why I couldn´t build higher, some feedback would be helpful here. Give it more types of blocks and towers and ressources and we will play this for days!
Thanks for your review and your kind words!
It's fairly simple, you can only build on scaffolding that is supported by other scaffolding or ground on either side less than four blocks down. It's designed to stop people from cheesing the game by building a single block tower. I'd like to have a tutorial explaining this and some more explanatory feedback... you can already see the unsupported block rocking a bit but it might not be clear why.
Really good! I like this kind of games
Thanks!
Funny tower defense, but the alien sound gave me some headache D:
Yeah, sorry about the headache, hope you recover soon! Obviously should have used a few more minutes for tweaking the sound...
Fun tower defendse concept, if you would add some cool sprites to it I think you can create a very good game!
Really fun base defender game! Made it to the top! simple but well designed!
Preety fun! Great job!
really fun! i found some of the sounds a bit overwhelming / grating though, maybe tone them down a bit!
Love the aesthetic! Quite fun building up the towers while trying to defend them from getting shrunk back down, nicely done!
I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was a lot of fun. Played until I reached the top. Great work!
Did you enjoy using Bevy?
Thanks for playing!
Yes, I'm a software developer and Rust is my tool of choice, although sadly only for personal projects. I've been wanting to learn Bevy, and a bit of game programming, for a while. I enjoyed it quite a bit, the number of tools available in the echo system is growing quickly, and the prospect of a proper editor coming is exciting. Finally, even though the code is an unholy mess at this point, which happens when you crunch, I've gained a lot of new strategies and insight into how I can avoid that in my next project.
I like the fact that towers get smaller when they get damage!
Impressive work for two days. It did feel a bit too difficult though, the turrets cost too much and don't aim well enough to justify the number of enemies. But other than that (and the sound issues other have pointed out), it's a really solid game!
Thanks for the kind words and for playing !
