Super Dice Entry!! it has a great feel, you did a great job presenting the needed number with the "Dice particle wall" I'd love to see more of that

well done!

Developer

Thanks! And to think that's literally the first thing I did when i started the project without even knowing what i was going to do with it haha. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed the game a lot, mainly the visuals. I think you guys have made a great job, and it's even more remarkable by the fact you made it in 48 hours.

Solid mechanics, nice art and great menu's. Solid game and execution, congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I worked solo and it was quite time consuming haha, wish I had managed my time better to get in some more levels!

Submitted(+1)

Not an easy game!!! Or maybe I'm just bad... Or maybe it's  just luck! Cool take on theme, nice work.

Developer(+1)

Don't feel bad haha, it's just a bit brutal. Especially the last level is a bit unfair on some jumps, I'm gonna tweak it a bit (not too much, I like it being difficult!) after the jam!

Submitted(+1)

A More unique idea fitting the theme. The Title Screen Design is one of the better ones. I also like the Gates where you can only pass with the right number. But the inner dirt tiles could be a bit More than a plain color. It looks a bit out of Place within  the Rest of the game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Appreciate the honest feedback. Yeah let's say i spent very little time on the graphics. Both because I didn't have much time and because i really, really suck at pixel art as you can see ahah. Will surely work on the tileset in the future when I update the game!

Submitted(+1)

Fantastic game, the idea was unique and the execution was even better. The variety of dice on display is also really impressive for a game jam

Submitted(+1)

The graphics is pretty relaxing and nice and gameplay is fun! got bad luck few times but it is okay bc i will get good luck few times in the future :D This game isn't a easy one btw :D
Well done!

Developer(+1)

thank you! i'm glad you liked it even with some bad luck ahah!

Its a nice game, with some really cool puzzles. But the rng of the spawning dice and the explosivenes of it makes some borderline impossible situations and gets the player stucked.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! You're not the only one who pointed out that having the die explode after some uses is not really that great. The idea was to make the player go back at the spawning point of the die if he missed too many shots. But i think i will have to find some more interesting way to "punish" mistakes. Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

I don't think the rolling the dice mechanic added a ton to some of the earlier puzzles, because it was just trial and error. However the actual puzzles themselves, like the ones where you throw the dice and catch it again, are really fun. Solid game.

Developer

thanks for your honest feedback! Let's say the idea of the first puzzles were to get you to play with the inputs and feels of the throwing and understanding that the die explodes after some uses. But you are right, it feels a bit pointless in a vacuum, i should think of some way of making it more interesting and impactful on the gameplay of the earlier levels. Thanks!!!

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game. Some level is kind of hard if you have bad luck.

Developer

Thanks!!! Yeah the few friends who tested the last two levels kinda hated me ahah. I'll probably work on the difficulty jump on the last level before adding some more. Thanks for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

BattlefoxStudio  congrats on your entry to the jam with Super Dice Boy. It has a solid implementation of the theme. It was a challenge for me on some levels because of the limited lifetime of every dice but I managed to get through and didn't find it frustrating. Keep it up the games!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!!! I tried to make it hard but fair and even when failing I wanted the player to have the feeling that they can do it if they try hard enough. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

cool idea! i think the rolling dice to get through doors is pretty cool, but theres a bit too much rng there. i would propose giving some more control? awesome job otherwise!

Developer

the die always roll at the same speed in the same order, but I agree that it's not really easy to control the speed to get the number you want. I might slow down the "rolling" animation so that it's easier to control. One way I used to "control more" the roll, is throwing the dice slowly in the air and quickly catch it again. You can more easily control the numbers. Of course the die will become red and explode after three throws, but if you catch it before it touches the ground it doesn't explode and might still be used for some mechanics. Thanks for your feedback it surely gave me some food for my thoughts and more reason to test some different stuff :D  thank you also for trying my entry!

It feels good, looks good but the throwing mechanic is getting me kinda frustrated and makes the puzzle solving annoying because you can't really choose the number you want, which is the expected effect i guess but for a puzzle game like that it is a bit annoying. Also since you're using unity check the "use physical keys"  buttons in the project settings in the input manager, takes 2 seconds and makes people with a non-qwerty keyboard like me less of a pain. excellent level design and mechanic, great game overall, good job !

Developer

Ah you're totally right about the input thing! I don't usually use directly keycodes for the input, but the time was tight and I forgot to redo it the right way. Thanks for letting me know, I'm gonna change that asap.

Submitted(+1)

no worries i also had a huge lack of time, just making suggestions

Developer

of course! I appreciate all the suggestions i can get, so thank you :D

Submitted(+1)

Feels really smooth and plays fun! I would like to have more controls on dice roll result. Sometimes I was stuck because I couldn't get the right number :(

Developer(+1)

thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it. I think i know what you mean, on the explosive die level I also sometime find it frustrating that i can't get the right roll, i will probably think of some way to alleviate that after the jam. Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

I feel like there's a bit of an identity crisis - if it's trying to be like Super Meat Boy, I wish the dice rolling (throwing?) was much more consistent/controllable to allow players to speedrun, and then the dice exploding makes sense (time penalty for failure).  If it's trying to be a puzzler, then the dice taking damage on use doesn't make a lot of sense, but the dice tossing might.

Either way, I think there's a good foundation for either - the levels are great and the jumping and throwing were fun to play with!

Developer

Thanks for your honest feedback! As you guessed, I wasnt 100% sure where I was going with the puzzles and it probably shows in the end design of the game. I'm glad that at least you found the mechanics enjoyable, even if not necessarily enjoyed how they were put together! I'll keep your honest feedback in mind :)

Submitted(+1)

Oh, to be clear, I enjoyed playing around in the game.  No worries there :]

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed that. The tightness of the mechanics mixed with some tough levels and a good difficulty curve was awesome - not many Jam games get me in a state of flow.

I'm afraid I don't have much to add given it was made in such a short time period - just hope you continue with it after the Jam ends!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Yeah the time was tight and working solo was hard to come up with the ideas, implement them and test them before the deadline. I had a couple more levels in mind but I feared that i wouldn't have time to test them, so i prefered to submit the game without them to avoid breaking it. But for sure I plan on polishing the mechanics and adding some more levels when the jam is over! Thanks for your feedback I really appreciate it :)

Submitted

I think you made the right decision. I didn't feel like the game lacked content, and having the odd bug/ breakage from trying to force in too much never feels great. Glad to hear it!

Submitted(+1)

Really fun, great job. The last level is INSANE!

Developer(+1)

My friend still don't want to talk with me after testing that last level... ahah. Thanks!

Submitted

hahahha make sense to me

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow, this is a very very polished puzzle/platform games. I do not have much else to say. Sometimes it's a bit frustrating that the dice explode after some uses, but that's okay, they respawn.

Excellent work !

Developer

Thanks!!! I got the same feedback from a friend about the dice exploding after some uses, maybe I could add more uses before it explodes, gotta think and test some more! Thanks for your feedback I really appreciate it :)

This is the best game I've played this jam so far. It's just wonderfully designed. The tutorial was top notch. The puzzles were so well designed. I felt like I was coming up with my own solutions, not the dev's intended solution, which just always feels amazing even if the dev did intend it. Figuring out the mechanics on my own and using them to my advantage was just *chef's kiss*. More people need to play and rate this game.

Developer

oh man thank you for your kind words, really! It warms my heart. I'm really glad you liked it and that you feel exactly how I hoped to make the game feel!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the idea. The dice throwing feels really good and it could be use in a larger game.

Developer

thanks for trying it! as you guessed i had a lot of different mechanics and levels to implement, but working solo i had to make what i managed to make in the time frame ahah, but i'm glad you liked it ^^

This gave me some Yoshi Island vibes, thank you and bravo for making it in 48hrs !

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it and for the kind words! ^^ i really appreciate it
