A fun little beat-em-up with a fantasy twist. I like the protagonist; it's fun being a mossman dual-wielding sword and staff.

This is a game that could probably benefit from some variety. Maybe variety in terms of creatures to fight, or variety in terms of storylines to decide. I also had a difficult time trying to predict when an enemy would block my attack or not, so I often just mashed the attack button while approaching the enemy.

I did run into a bug once, where during a screen transition I walked a little to the left and got stuck in the previous section. Overall though, pretty clean.

Really great concept and fun to play. We originally had a similar idea with our team too. Glad to see someone developed the storybook idea! Loved the fact that enemies can inflict friendly fire. Graphics were great and I loved the music. If I have to give some feedback, I missed some visual cue on getting hit.

Really pretty game with good chara design and a great concept idea of choosing the enemies. It felt sometimes inaccurate in the fights but that is still fun. Great job !

I think the game works well, I liked its narrative, but I think that in terms of combat it lacked a little polish, since the collisions are not very precise, and it is not very clear when one is hit by an attack.

Overall a good job, and I liked that each enemy had its own attack pattern :D

This is very cool! I love the Mad Libs/Choose Your Own Adventure style of the game - very unique! Great graphics with a very nice palette. Also has just the right amount of strategy and enemy mechanics. It was hard to tell when I was being hit, though.

And if I’m being super nit-picky, the only confusing thing was that you use the same arrow graphic for reading the next passage and leaving an area. I was trying to click on the arrow after finishing an area.

A solid entry all around.  I found combat somewhat frustrating at first, but once I got the hang of each enemies patterns it became surprisingly fun.  Simple, straightforward, with creative implementation of a hook I loved as a child (choose-your-own-adventure books).

As is often the way with jam games, a bit more feedback in the combat itself (knockback for both player/enemy, player iframes when getting hit, etc) would have carried the combat a lot more.  Even still it was a lot of fun.  Reminded me of a cross between Golden Axe and the old Fighting Fantasy books.  Very well done, thanks for the game!

Thanks for playing :D. Yeah I agree we could have had more player feedback for sure, thanks for the suggestions. Even though there were I-Frames they arent visible to the player and didn't last very long so they only really prevented attacks from multiple enemies at once..

oh thats a nice and simple approach to the theme :)

the gameplay looks pretty polished except from a few minor things (attack direction, aoe spell timing, maybe some visual cues). The graphics are clean and consistent, and the music fits very well. Good job!

I absolutely loved this! You really captured the feeling of an interactive choose your own adventure book + simple top down fighter. Art style looks great as well!

I really had a blast on this one. Graphics are elegantly simple, the battle mechanics are well though out. After I figured out how to beat the cyclops, things became much easier. Awesome how you let the player pick the fight, and how you combined that with storytelling.

Would love to see in a next version that more difficult battles give better rewords.

P.S.: the timing of the enemies’ attack animations are very good.

I finished the game!!

- "...don't pick the hardest option.. don't pick the hardest option..."

- annnnnd we have Double Ogres...

I really liked the way you allowed players to choose the monsters they fight! Really on theme with folklore.

The aoe spell was slightly hard to land at first, but once you get used to the timing it's a good skill, fair with cooldown.

One QOL improvement would be to allow players to hit where their mouse pointer is facing. I had a few awkward situations where I needed to quickly tap arrow keys to move and face my mossfolk in the right direction.

Fun little game overall! Solid entry~!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Initially we did have mouse aim but we felt that ultimately to make it more rewarding to use keyboard as it lined up with the animations better, but I see what you mean haha.

Beautiful art! Nice game and music too!

I liked the way the player can choose the difficulty of the game by selecting weaker enemies to fight in the story.  A good  well made game.

Combat was challenging, but fun. I'd recommend having a little more player hit feedback for the future!

Developer

Thanks for playing, seems like the player hit animation didnt get in, I see what you mean haha

This is my favorite game of the jam so far. Obviously, super classic design. But really well executed and fun to play. also a pleasant vibe!

Really fun to play! Challenging, but not because of buggy behavior. I really enjoyed the concept
