Love the visuals and perspective, and the vivid engaging storytelling. I really liked this one - really fantastic job!

The arrow mechanics and dash did feel really cool! Great work!

The one-frame teleport dash is a little jarring, it'd be good to make that movement take place over several frames (you can make the player invulnarable i.e. iframes during the animation to keep the same balance).  I did get stuck on a tree early on, but a lot of wiggling and dashing eventually freed me, so it was only a minor issue.   I really enjoyed the 2D inside 3D aesthetic and the art style is great!

Good job man amazing job with the look of the game, I didn't get "lost" but I was a bit unsure if I was going the right way maybe some more clues and making the camera have a bit more field of view could help with that.

Having said that still congrats, I had fun and would love to see more.

Love the mix and the overall experimentations, looks like you had a lot of fun creating this :)
the sprites are gorgeous, especially the Snowfox. He's terrifying.

I think the camera angle is a little bit frustrating, i would like to be able to see more in front of me than behind.

Also the voice acting on the postjam version is incredible!

Overall congrats, very fun to play. Would like to see more of the story!

About camera - Now looking at it, I think we did it somewhat wrong, cuz 1-st we got sprites, then we tried to adjust the camera so the sprites would look "right". Did not nail it, apparently)

Huge thanks for playing and, especially, checking postjam version!

That was a fun little game. I like the 2D/3D feel to it. Was able to fight the boss and beat it pretty quickly. I think a little added difficulty could have been used to make it a bit harder and longer of a game. Overall it was pretty cool.

It looks interesting, but unfortunately the graphics are broken. The enemies(?) on the way to the boss are only visible through the small health indicator number.  The boss looks really cool but unfortunately also becomes invisible/turns into a tiny cloud for most animations.  Furthermore, it seemed impossible to me to hit either the enemies or the boss. It's a shame because the overall look is great!

Developer

It's a bummer that you've encountered such issues(. Did you have a chance to check out postjam (https://enweave.itch.io/the-general-and-the-snow-fox-post-jam) version to tell if those issue persist?
We've tried to put few things minutes before submission thus probably breaking stuff)
Anyhoo, thanks for playing!

It works better, the enemies and boss are visible now. The intro voiceover seems to work now as well. Some issues that still persist are alpha borders around the objects and at the edges of their rectangles. For example, they clouds have very noticeable white vertical lines at the edges. Adding some padding to the atlas and checking the import settings should solve the issue.

I think the boss spends too much time in general buried. I would have preferred to get a good look at it, because it's a really neat design. Maybe the burying mechanic could be the boss disappearing and then pouncing in from a different direction?

Developer

Thx for taking a time to check it out. Boss suggestion is interesting too - maybe it would even make boss moar scary)

Developer

About boss becoming invisible - It's supposed to be a mechanic where boss buries underground (becoming invulnerable), lurks around and then pounces at ye, but limited animation and rough implementation, apparently, does not communicate that well.

The artistic style is very attractive, but it was not very clear to me what to do. but for the art and the atmosphere

Well done! :D

I liked how you used simple techniques to give a nice vibe in the aesthetics. The design of the monster is really really cool.

Great vibes, the art and fog create a great atmosphere.

It took me a loooong time to figure out there was 3d movement XD

The art and animation on the snow fox look especially awesome.

Well done!

The art style is very cool, I like the 2d / 3d mix. I like the fog, it makes for a very cool vibe while walking around. I was hopelessly lost for about 10 minutes wandering around the map and talking to loaf though lol. Would love to see the game expanded more!

I think the boss should be closer by cause I was quite lost trying to find my way to it. Cool lore and graphics though!
