The graphics are so charming and the sound design is great! My only gripe would be that the mirrors require too much accuracy, and I did not have the patience to get through more than 4 levels of trial and error, but I think you did a great job overall

Game Description
Reflecting lasers off of mirrors
How does your game tie into the theme?
I took reflections literally and made a game about bouncing a laser off of mirrors and made a puzzle game.

Looks and sounds really good! There's probably too much guess-and-check mirror tweaking, but on the other hand I do really like to see a "laser game" where you are routinely using reflection angles that aren't 45 degree increments. Also, and this may just be me, I was a little sad the laser wasn't dangerous and there was no nice 1-bit disintegration effect. Whatever you would have done would have looked and felt great.
I think you probably could have gotten away with a single contextual button and had slightly cleaner controls (just hold space + left/right to move mirrors, use space to enter doors, etc.) but its debatable and the ROI is limited. Hope you enjoyed your first jam, you started strong.
I really love the art style! The animations are also great, like the plants moving when I walk past them and the player landing particles, they're all nice touches. I feel like being able to snap the mirros to specific angles like 45 and 30 degree intervals would be a great addition, as lots of the time I found myself needing to make loops slightly adjusting the mirrors then testing the laser. Otherwise, had a lot of fun with this one!
Love the artwork, sound, and concept. My suggestion though, if you made the player movement faster and the rotation of mirrors faster, people playing your game would be more engaged. I found myself annoyed by having to wait for actions to complete.
Overall though, fantastic submission.
I’m a sucker for 1-bit art, and what’s on display here is truly gorgeous. I wasn’t a fan of the glow in the screenshots, but luckily there was no glow in the game itself. My only complaint, a tiny nitpick, is that the high-resolution laser shader and particle effects seemed out of place with the rest of the visuals.
From the first time I walked through a bundle of grass, I was amazed at the tactility of it all — it’s just a few pixels moving around, paired with some subtle sfx, but it’s so expertly put together and it just felt really nice. All the sfx are really pleasant, and makes every interaction satisfying. The music is stellar too, very fitting and chill.
There’s some tedium in the trial-and-error of adjusting mirror angles, but it’s really not that bad thanks to the angle snapping — I bet the game would be unplayable without that. The progression of puzzles felt smooth, and I liked the variety of gimmicks introduced.
This is hands down my favorite laser-reflecting puzzle game of the jam. Fantastic entry!
I think it is one of the best mirror-puzzle games in this jam! I like how the controls are smooth, and also mirrors are slightly annoying, they are overall rather predictable. My main issue was the lack of an easy way to restart. It was annoying on the level with 4 hanging blocks (I needed to kill myself each time I hit the goal before hitting all blocks), but on the next level, after I blocked the laser - there wasn't any way to restart. I had to go over thee screen boundary, but even that didn't kill me, so I was pretty much stuck :( But other than that - it was great! Also really like smooth controls and sound work.
I love the art style in this game, and the advancement of the puzzle complexity was great.
I would like it if after the first couple levels your player "earned" the ability to see the numeric angle they were setting things to (or there were art changes when at specific angles, like 45' or 60') because it was a little laborious to walk back and forth between laser and mirror to make minute changes... The walk back and forth is ok for the first couple levels, but it might be a nice quality-of-life to earn that visual feedback later in the game.
I really liked the art and sound. Of the laser games I've played from the jam so far, this one has to be one of the most impactful-feeling lasers to fire. Although I will note that the charge time helped make the second-to-last level quite a bit harder than I expect was intended, the delay makes timing puzzles tough. Had a great time overall!
Really loved the art and animations, good job with those! Sincerely I struggled a bit by moving back and forth too but in the end really good game, keep it up!
Great work with the art and sfx. The game feels juicy and fun to play, with the exception of it getting a bit annoying being barely off and having to run back and forth to change the beam's angle. Overall great game and really fun to play!
Good use of monochrome art style that evokes some older games. Good use of a shader on the beam. It would be cool to see the alignment of the mirror in degrees, being off by one tick is kind of annoying.
I managed to hit a crash on the 5th level charging the beam.
I really like the identity of your game, sound and visual ! very cool.
I found it to be a bit tedious to find the perfect alignment for the mirrors, especially when I had 3 or more mirrors to set up, but it's kind of part of the fun anyway.
I see that you were alone on this one and that it is you first jam so you have all of my encouragements for the future of your gamemaking journey ;)
