Game Description
Beat the monster as it evolves through the 4 stages of Metamorphosis: Egg, Larva, Pupa, and Adult
How does your game tie into the theme?
You fight a Monster that goes through Metamorphosis, each phase providing a different battle tactic. Also, the dice can be upgraded! The game title is also an example of Metamorphosis...it's actually several names that constantly shift (all of them anagrams of Metamorphosis)

Took me a bit but finally beat it (along with Kafka mode). My poor gacha luck carried over to the dice upgrading it seems. Very fun game! The boss sprite changing through the fight is a great touch and I found the dice rolling to be pretty engaging. I think I ran into 1 bug where I put a skull dice on the upgrade table and the game became unresponsive, but maybe it was just me. Awesome job on this one!
thanks for playing and the feedback! Yes, I didn't take into account folks would try to upgrade a die that was already all skulls XD It's an important gamedev lesson...never assume/underestimate a player's actions! haha
Such a great first jam! it looks really cute. A bit rng heavy , could use maybe a rerolling mechanic? the dice upgrader sure punished me LOL, took a while to have a good run and beat it, loved the kafka mode sprite hahaha
Thanks! Yes, I agree about it all being a bit RNG heavy...it's one of the things I personally don't like about dice roguelike games.
The dice upgrader is meant to be a "game of greed"...do you risk messing up your decent dice with a skull? But everyone I've seen just upgrades until they can't anymore haha. Definitely lessons learned regarding game design :D
very cool, in the slime thing the sistem clicked to me!!
Super well done, I love the combat system. It's also super intuitive, I could play without trouble pretty quickly
i could not find out how you can upgrade dice , tried holding on to them on end turns and tiring to merge them together! But nice drag and drop little game biggest disappointment was that bug from Kafka mode did not have at least more armor or health (being a giant bug and all= with natural armor! :))
upgrading the dice is easy :) Just drag a die onto the table in front of the wizard like the text says :D It will pick and upgrade a random side type (so all attacks on the die will increase by +1, for example). But there's an increasing failure rate chance the more you upgrade your dice, which will turn *one* side of the die into a useless Skull!
changing the health/armor on the bug is a great idea for sure! Thanks for playing the game!
I really enjoyed seeing your progress videos through the jam week. It was cool seeing this game come together and get to finally play it. Really fun use of the game name changing. At first seeing the game title I was very confused because it wasn't what I thought it would be lol. I enjoyed the graphics and overall design and layout. I got really unlucky with my upgrades early on oh well. I can't be sure but I think there was a bug with the swords drop spot. After placing 2 swords they would clear. Then I would place another sword and both spots would highlight as if one of the spots never cleared. Only seemed to happen on the swords. But it wasn't detrimental enough to take away from the fun.
Overall great job I enjoyed this one!
Hey thanks for checking out my game! The issue you ran into is known...and it's my biggest issue of the jam. It has to do with dice colliding with more than one dice slot, so they both fire the method. I've got to go back and do my homework to figure out how to fix that :D
Fun gameplay, a bit buggy at times but upgrading your dice by gambling is a really nice risk/reward mecanics. Really good job for your first entry
much appreciated! Thanks for checking it out!
Really fun gameplay, I love dice and dice building mechanics!
Feels like you put lots of thought into every aspect of the game, and the result is great!
I really like the increasing chance of failure for dice upgrades, great application of the risk vs reward concept.
This might be your first game jam but I hope it's not the last one ;)
I love this game!!! Simple but addicting game loop, couldn't help but play the entire game. This is a great example of not needing a massive game for it to be fun. The sound effects were really nice too. 😁
The only thing I felt lacking was that there is no music.
But other than that, great entry for your first ever jam. Keep up the great work, would love to see what you make in the future! 👍
The core gameloop was simple, intuitive, and fun. The gameplay did start to feel a bit repetitive after some time though. Some variation with something like class abilities might help, but it is a jam and there isn't much time for all those fancy additions. The game feels great, but the lack of music did hurt the overall vibe. For your first jam, this is incredible work!
Thanks Sevadusk! I agree, I think some extra classes (with unique dice/fightingstyles) would really spice up the game! Maybe one day :)
About to stream reviewing yours, so review incoming! Thanks again!
I really liked the UI and I think that the game has a really solid foundation! I think the game could use some more skill elements, maybe you can save a dice each turn or different enemies have different effects on the rolls. Nice submission!
really appreciate it! Can't wait to try your game today on stream!
The interface and art are both pretty good, and the game was fun enough! I do agree with some of the other comments that it feels a bit automatic once you figure it out, but the game's fairly forgiving and doesn't last too long so that's not much of an issue. Having the dice rolling around on the table like that was pretty satisfying too
Thanks a bunch! Can't wait to try out your game on stream today!
This game sucks... wait, what? This game is not bad, wait it's good!
Everything changes in this review... even the rating!
Jokes aside, game is super fun. At the start I was little bit bored because I wasn't sure was there more to the game because it was only just stacking dices but I understood after the first morph. So yeah, as 'Velvet Overkill' wrote "Gameplay felt automatic at times", I love the exchange card in here.
I've been following your progress on Discord channel so I've been seeing this game since day one lol. So yeah, It's fun
LOL thanks blulio, really appreciate you taking the time to play and review the game!
very funn and perfect use of the theme well done!! :D
Awesome polish on the game, the style is very cohesive and well put together! Controls were intuitive and I got the flow after the first couple of turns. Gameplay felt automatic at times, but phase three is where the game really shines -- there's more depth in you decision making on each turn when balancing offense and defense. And of course, gambling for upsides and downsides is a fun mechanic and executed very well here.
thanks so much, and yes I totally agree about the "automatic" feel of the first 2 fights. I wanted the Egg boss to feel somewhat like a tutorial stage, and the 2nd boss to make you think "hmm, should I lock this dice now...or reroll it for something else?". I think with some tweaking, it could be even more like that. Thank you again so much! I'll be playing/rating yours tomorrow on my stream!
The core gameplay loop was fun, and sort of reminded me of Dicey Dungeons. The dice upgrading mechanic was interesting but very punishing! I didn't quite beat the last phase, but got pretty close.
Nice work!
thanks so much for playing and commenting! Definitely some room for balancing...and dice are pretty RNG as-is. In my playtests, I got a wide variety of both punishing *and* god-like dice outcomes haha
I'll be playing/rating yours tomorrow on my stream! Thanks again!
