A sunny morning in August 1628, the warship "Vasa" was finally ready for her maiden voyage. The destination was Poland, where it would serve as a military flagship in the war. Sadly, the ship was built with a few errors, and due to physics, weather and water - three things you can't possibly be expected to take into consideration when building a royal warship - the Vasa sank like a rock only about a kilometer from shore.

nice game!  it was fun and challenging! I played it repeatedly until I got the hang of it, great work! keep it up!

Developer

Thank you! :D

The mechanic takes a few tries to get used to, but the gameplay is original and really creative once you get used to it! It's a great idea for a high score game, and would even work as a level based game. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you very much! :D

The ship was so heavy that the man just kept walking trough air :)

Good game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! :)

Really fun game, but I found it very difficult, my ship keeps sinking, but I keep playing it. Good job!

Developer

Thank you very much! :D <3

Damn this game is hard. Very interesting gameplay though, I would like to see this expanded further.

I found a bug where  you can walk into empty space:

Developer(+2)

Thank you for playing! And yes, that bug is very known. A good example for when I’m playing with forces I do not fully understand. 😂

Very interesting idea. It was really hard for me though - once the second lot of items descended, I couldn't save the ship. The physics are well done - I like the way the player can still go up and down the ladders even when tilted.

Lower the difficulty level and this could be a lot of fun.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing and your thoughts! :D

really liked your game, the music is cool, the game get really difficult sometimes but it is very fun.

Thank you! :D <3

Haha, I'm surprised there is another boat game based on Swedish history! I really like your idea and execution. It's very intuitive/easy to understand, but can get quite hectic and strategic too when you are picking which item to choose first, so there is a surprising amount of depth (hehe) to the game. The music was very calming and enjoyable to listen to as well. If I had to give some feedback, maybe it would be easier if the new item spawns were a little more spread out over time? I had a few cases where a bunch of stuff spawned on one side and my ship sank instantly... Which is historically accurate I guess :D But a little hard to play with. Anyway, very cool game.

As others mentioned, I can walk off the ship and stand in the air. Interesting mechanic, really challenging.

Thanks for playing. :)

Interesting gameplay mechanic, visual and sound effect on items picked up and dropped would be nice for purpose of Player feedback. Also if the boat tilts to far to the left or right you can go over on an invisible plane that you can walk over without jumping over the ship.

Enjoyable game experience. Well done overall.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing! There are sounds for feedback so I’m surprised you didn’t hear that. And yes, movement is definitely getting an overhaul. ;D It’s such a mess. 😂

Thanks again. :>

Sorry my bad your right there are sound effects. Just very faint had to crank the volume a bit more.

Well, I sucked at this game but at least I was able to abandon ship by walking off into the sky. Seriously though, very good job at sticking to the theme but in a creative and fun way.

Developer(+1)

It’s because of skills like that Titanic didn’t bother to bring more lifeboats. 😎

Thank you very much for playing! :D

Very well made game, I really enjoy the simple concept of maintaining the balance of cargo on a ship and the history behind it.  It's a addicting game, after reading the comments, I felt like I need to get a higher score, so 114m is my best score, for the moment.
One funny feeling while I'm typing after playing the game is the I see the words waving around, it makes a little difficult to write...

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and your nice words! Haha, it’s so fun that you say this, because that’s a constant thing I realised when hopping out of game testing and back into my IDE and felt a bit seasick. I was like: ”shit, people are going to hate this so much.”

I actually had the boat also bob up and down slightly to begin with but made the decision that people would probably just leave my game without apetite left. 😂

One of my favorite games so far in the jam. As others have stated, it's easy to pick up and play. The criticism of it getting easier with time is one I echo as well, but since I kind of suck at games, I didn't mind it. My guy glitched out of the boat at about 125m in my best run so I just had him flying around attempting to outlast the ship, but unfortunately that ended me regardless. :)

Love the "Vasa La Vista" pun too, göteborgare som man är så går vitsar alltid hem.

Well done! :)

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed it! Yeah, I actually had a dream the night after submission that I fixed the awkward movement-system which I believe to be one of the worst things I’ve made ever. 😂 I hadn’t really dealth with physics at all in earlier projects so I stepped into a lot of ”gotchas” and no time to step out of them gracefully. In panic when I had only like 30 min left to deadline I just tossed in a respawn button (return) to put it back in place in the event the character stops knowing how to character.

Glad att du gillade! :D Sjukt tacksam för fina ord. 🎉

I don't know why but even is the ship is drowning, I find this game quite relaxing. It was fun to play ! Really enjoyed it, good work !

113 meters - without looking into the comments ;-) Now that I do, I can see some tipps&tricks that might become handy.

You have developed a great game that hooked me instantly. Great job!

Thanks a ton for playing and for your kind words! :D

I like the concept (and also the music and graphics), but as BirdCat Nate mentioned, once I've carried down a bunch of weight to the lower decks, I felt pretty safe and newly dropped cargo just didn't affect the boat anymore. Maybe if old cargo would "rot" after some time (possibly quicker when in contact with water) it would be more of a challenge since you'd have to constantly replace old crates with new one. Although rotting anvils don't sound too realistic :)

Also (and I might only be writing this since I've recently played Unrailed and Overcooked), it would also be awesome if crates of food would have to be delivered to a canteen, or gunpowder crates / cannonballs to higher decks (in an attack scenario), so the player would need to balance the ship [and] deliver required supplies to the right places as well (sometimes removing them from the lower decks so they will need to be replaced with something else to maintain balance)... but I might be overthinking it :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton for playing and your awesome feedback - the rotting cargo is a perfect idea that definitely goes on the post-jam todo-list. I find a common pitfall for our jam-projects is the amount of time not spent on balance (ha. ha.) and testing long plays. The idea was ofcourse that the game should be more difficult the longer you managed to do it, but instead it gets easier. As soon as the jam is over I'll make sure the players minutes on the ship will not be as pleasant. ;)

Thank you again. ^^

PS. Haha, i definitely want to make a game like overcooked some time, not sure how well it would fit on the ship of Vasa, but having to do some sort of maintenance with some of the cargo was actually considered. Like the ability to use cannonballs to fire cannons to give you a temporary panic-button-mechanic when you fall too low to one side. :)
