I like the charming atari style sprite work. Game is straightforward and easy to understand despite the lack of instructions.
I think you'll add a whole lot of replayability to this game by randomizing the fishes positions though.
Congrats on pulling through over the last few days! Thanks for making this!
(Also, kudos on having it under 5mb lol. That's pretty rare nowadays with all the game engine dependency bloats)
I enjoyed it, it was intuitive and simple. I don't know if you intended to be able to mash UP to move the hook upward, but it would make a solid mini-game without much extra work. Impressive for joining in at the tail end of the jam!
I liked the win screen art!
The play progression is not explained but it can be inferred by trial and error, which was nice.
Improvement suggestions:
- Audio. A free BGM and simple sound effects would add a lot to the game.
- Maybe some kind of intro to show how Red Gura ended up at the bottom of the lake and why Blue Gura is fishing her out.
Good job for completing this in 24 hours or so!
Fibshe indweed fear her!
A nice short and simple game! I strangely find the mechanic quite intuitive even with lack of explanation!
This just need some sounds and feed back and ambience to make it fantastic!
It's very good to see people getting into game design and trying their hand at making stuff, even the simplest stuff! (That goes for everyone who participated btw) You could've called it good with the first version but there are TWO! I think this game is cute.
Silent, jank, and short as it may be. I kinda like it. It reminds me of my old jank projects... Maybe that isn't a compliment. ^^'
It's impressive that you were able to make this despite coming into the jam in the last few days. The drawn art for the title and victory screnes is pretty nice and funny too, so if you were to continue with it, I think that style would be good.
I like the concept! There isn't much there, but that's definitely fair considering how short of a time period you made it in.
A good attempt. The concept is there, just need to add a bit more to complete the experience.
ok for a 24 hour jam this is very very good. The art in the menu screens especially was a nice surprise. Not much I can say that kano didn't already say, but there are a lot of royalty free sound effects and music you could use. Or if you wanted to, you could just use a hololive song as long as you follow the derivative works guidelines.
A quick and simple experience, not the craziest thing for a rapid-fire game for how long you had to do it!
- There's no sounds or ambient music, so that's one way you could up the immersion factor... this would help sink the player in a bit and feel more at ease, wanting to spend more time appreciating the scenery or the goal
- The progression was very quick to grasp (eat the larger fishes with the bait) and the underlying goal (at least through the self-ascribed environmental storytelling I'm giving myself) is to clear the bloodied corrupted pond by clearing the fishes -- though the core is very simple... it is very easy to become bored with! You could take that core in a lot of directions by asking the player "why would they do this", and then exploring out along the creative game design paths asking that question multiple times takes you down ๐
- I did notice the XP and level indicators in the upper left, but I couldn't tell what they're for or what they do (if anything atm!)
- I can get behind the pixelated style! I think you could do a lot with that, especially if you build out more of a longer-term game progression spanning multiple levels or objectives.
With more time, I could imagine you having a more robust, possibly replayable experience here for the enterprising player to enjoy... but be proud that you did this with the time you had, and thank you for coming and being part of it -- hope you will be able to spend more time with us from the get-go next time! ๐โโ๏ธ
Hey, thanks for playing and taking the time to give feedback! Sorry I haven't got back to you yet - have felt a bit under the weather today. Not sure if actually sick or if it's allergies, or just too much time at the computer lately lol. Anyway, really appreciate your insight! all things I agree with. Not to really give an excuse or anything, but stuff like music is really not my forte, which is why I didn't bother trying in such a short window of time, but yeah, really ought to think about what kind of music might fit this game. Not sure if I'll develop this idea into anything more in the future, but good things to note down just in case!
