Hey, I managed to beat the game! :D
Loved the dialogue and the gameplay was something fresh when compared to the usual match-3 games. You could always add more levels, maybe immovable blocks, funky level layouts... there are lots of possibilities. :)
Good stuff!
I'm usually not a big puzzle game fan but I definitely enjoyed this one. The two characters Q and E are so cute and the little dialogues make the game so much more worthwhile. Also the rotation is something that's actually quite challenging to wrap your head around, at least for me ^^ So its a nice challenge in comparison to some other match-3 type puzzle games. It did feel a little slow though, as Steventus put it, kind of limiting.
This is a bit of a mixed bag for me, but first:
The good:
Right off the bat, I love the characters! Hah! Well done!
Also the presentation is actually quite nice, with fitting music, sound effects, VFX and a lot of nice small polish that really livens everything up. Good going! Gameplay is very simple, albeit the tutorial leaves some room for improvement.
To improve:
I'm ultimately a bit unsure about your take on this match-3 puzzle. The rotation twist feels forced in without great 'fit' onto the rest of the match-3 puzzle and it ultimately reminds me of Bejeweled (or any match-3 puzzle game), but with limited controls.
With that said, I'm not entirely sure on what improvements to offer without suggesting you to go back to the drawing board and revisit the entire design again.
Nevertheless, great effort, especially for something done in 2 days!
Thank you for the review!
Yeah the original idea was the cursor the be a "hole" and to have the entire column of shapes above it fall downwards as you rotate, but I realized that it really wasn't working as after a few moves you always ended up moving only the outside wall of shapes, with no way to get inside. So I changed the gameplay to be this much "safer" version, which doesn't do a much with the rotating.
Thinking back on it I could have made the original version kind of work if the player could control the verticality of the cursor before rotating, to get the cursor out of the corners. I'm not sure how much that would work either, but I might try to get a version of that working after the game jam. Thanks again for playing!
A really cool spin on the usual match 3 games, great job! Only thing I'd change was maybe make the movements a little bit faster? (although I'm not sure if that's just me being impatient :') )
Love the dialogue of the characters too!
cool game idea.. combination of q,e & w,s makes it interesting
Very funny dialogs, Q and E are great characters! :) I wish there were more games making tutorials/narratives using two characters.
And game itself plays great, I like the core mechanic, you could turn this into a very nice mobile game as well if you wanted to.
Q and E are fun and nice twist on the mechanic to fit the theme.
This guys are so funny!
Wow! What a crazy and interesting way to solve a match 3 game. I was about to quit when I accidentally made a match and then I was like "Hold on a second...if a rotate here, move there, rotate, rotate, move here, then rotate, the move, the rotate, move, move....eureka!" lol
Fun twist on bejeweled!
Was much harder than i thought i would. I think the game would benefit from faster movements, both rotation and up/down.
Really liked the dialogs between the aliens. Added cute unique character.
Well done!
Great mechanic, great use of the theme, and excellent little tutorial.
I'm not used too have story in my puzzle game but why not! I wish we could play instantly instead of have to wait for the animation. Okay stuff!
Great job! I loved that you managed to get some personality in the tutorial and also some variation in the stages, that's a lot for such a short jam.
great job!🕹🙃✌
Really nice match 3 game with innovative controls. You did a wonderful job with the storytelling!
Poor E! Why's he so grumpy! He needs a day off or something. This was a fun take on match-3 games and I'm surprised I haven't seen one with a rotation mechanic before. Thanks for sharing!
Awww. Poor E. Also, i now want an entire storyline :D
Since the rotation speed isn't super fast paced, i feel like it would be neat if it would keep rotating after a short pause if you keep the button pressed.
Good job.
How to help people reading your tutorial? Make it a funny little dialog :D.
Match-3 games with a twist and a nice implementation, a good game jam game that fit perfectly in the theme. Nothing totally new or revolutionary, but well executed! It's missing just a bit more of feeling/shaking on the match imo but well done!
(It's one of the rare game I read the tutorial before trying then searching for it :p.)
This was a fun game. I liked the twist of needing to rotate the board and only being able to move in one direction. It added an extra layer of "how do I get there from here" to the typical match-3 game. Liked the dialogue too. Good job!
Great presentation with the characters and tutorial. It definitely works and is fun.
I’m not sure how much the rotation aspect really affects gameplay here, other match-3 games allow shifting in different directions so the fact the board has to rotate to access some directions has perhaps less impact on the more mechanic than it may seem.
But, it’s polished and enjoyable
