How can you not love a game which has a cheese machine gun and top notch soundtrack! Great job!

Submitted(+1)

Love the idea and the music is a nice touch. I never realized I wanted a machine gun that can shoot cheese but now I do!

The controls could use some work, not sure if they were tank controls or not and it seem the camera can only rotate as far as the mouse can reach the sides of the screen? Lastly I would add some invisible walls to prevent the player from falling off the platform.

Great work!

Idea was pretty great, but the controls need a little work. The direction controls being locked to the original POV is a bit distracting. Almost got the pizza out, then it fell through the floor of the oven.
Sorry big fella, I tried (lol). All in all, great job and keep goin!

Questo videogioco è fantastico, grazie!

What a nice idea! :) Mecha rotation was a bit confusing, but it is mecha after all. Not everyone is able to control it!

Really really fun, movement was weird and that's my only complaint, everything else? *chefs kiss* Great job on this, I'd even love to see this idea expanded

Great concept and surprisingly intuitive systems! It took me a bit to figure out what I was doing, but once I did, it was easy to get into the swing of things. The dragon having its mouth wide open at the very back was a very nice touch--made me immediately aware of what "serving" the pizza meant! The classic pizza-making music was a great touch as well!

I played this one on stream. VOD here: https://youtu.be/wlr1r0gS4Uk?t=1101

"Waiter tried to serve me a burnt pizza so I spat it back out at him. Clearly this mech pilots first day making pizza. " -Dragon (probably)

I was laughing the entire time playing this. This was an incredible game to play. Top marks all around.

Would love to see this with co-op and all the mechs adding even more chaos to the kitchen.

Mamma mia, I love it.

Music is absolute S tier! As soon as i started the game i was groovin lol. Mech controls i struggled with a bit as turning felt a bit odd, but i love the overall idea of the game and i thought the dragon was cute! The constructive criticism would be in regard to movement if you didnt use q & e movement felt very rigid, maybe have movement in the direction the camera is facing, but slow it down? I hope this helps!

I also loved the spinning pizza that was great :)

Submitted(+1)

Such a fun and creative game! Felt like it had just the right amount of "silly simulation clunk" for interacting with the world without ever feeling frustrating. Loved the music as well. Nice job!

Love the goofy feel of it, down from the concept, the music and visuals such as the dragon. Tank controls are a bit awkward for me but I imagine for people used to it in games it's not too bad. As I said, I love the goofy feel, and its different from the general idea of a mech game where it would be action, shooter, war themed etc.

Personally not my cup of tea but neat project.

It did take me one round to figure out how the gameplay works but after that it was a lot of fun.  The mech feel of movement was a nice touch.  The different arms to do tasks was very cool.  The toppings gun did take a long time for the reload process.  Overall quite fun.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely keep pepperoni reload time in mind if we do any changes, I realize it can probably be annoying to have to wait for multiple reloads just to get enough pepperonis on the pizza when on a tight time limit. And I’m glad to hear you liked the arm tools too!

I really, *really* loved this one. One of my favorites of the Jam.

You really got the "mech-feel" down; I know some people had some issues with it, but the inherent "clunkiness" and weight of a mech is what really sells the whole giant robot thing, and you nailed it. On a feel level alone, yours goes a bit above and beyond.

The... weapons, lets say, all feel pretty good; I feel some audio feedback would be nice; the topping gun is a good example, having that big, heavy grenade-launcher thud to it. Having that with the Cheese Gun and Sauce Gun would be nice, especially since they both have great animations behind them (especially the Cheese Gun. I love that thing so much)

Only other issue I had was some collision issues here and there when dropping the pizzas; I lost a couple to the Oven Void. I could really see this expanding in fun ways if that's where you'd wanna take it; even if not, it's really wonderful as is. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and I’m glad you had fun! Clunkiness was definitely part of what we were going for with controls, we wanted it to feel like operating heavy machinery, so I’m glad that was conveyed. I did the modeling, texturing, and animation for the “gun” tools, so I’m glad to hear those called out specifically!

The most fun I have ever had making pizza virtually! Really cool game.

Developer

Glad to hear you enjoyed our entry! I took a look at the steam video you put up of you playing it, I do realize the tank-like controls can be tricky to get used to, but it was great to see that you looked like you were definitely getting the hang of things by the end. Thanks for playing!

Hey a fellow Godot 3 developer! I loved your project. The music really sets the mood and there is so many good things going on here. I did feel like I was fighting against the movement system. Was that intentional?

Developer(+1)

Go Godot!  Yeah we were trying to give it some weight and feel along the lines of operating equipment like a backhoe or something.  I thought people would start out a bit awkward and get a feel for it but it looks like the movement really hasn't gone over well.  I guess we could have moved closer to typical FPS and away from any simulatory feel.

Cool Idea with the Cooking Mech xD

the Controls feel a little sluggish and inaccurate, they need improvements.

The game constantly was lagging, sadly

Nicer Models and more accuracy when making a pizza would be interesting aswell as limited resources.

Good Work overall, keep it up

Submitted(+2)

Can't emphasise enought how fun the concept idea is! Hovewer, the overall gaming experience is not so good - controls are whacky, music was lagging a lot (i have an rtx card, so not my pc problem, i guess) and I coudn't get pizza to the furnance - It took some time, but it was hard xD. Overall - neat idea (as well as some PIZZA TIME Spidey 2 ost). Please, don't abandon this game.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! We admittedly definitely could have explained the movement controls a bit more. The movement controls are based on the Mechwarrior games, meaning the mech's legs are rotated with Q and E, while the body is rotated with the mouse. Movement overall is based on the direction the legs are facing, so if you're not looking in the same direction the legs are facing, movement feels slow and weird.

We may want to put more detail on how this works on the controls and jam pages, so thanks for voicing your problems with it!

Developer

Glad you liked the concept.

Good to know about the music lagging.  Was that in-browser or did you download a native build?

Submitted

downloaded the native build - Maybe this is due to lack of library or old dirvers of some sort - idk really, but something was a bit off - game lagged for a sec before backing the pizza - maybe animation was preloading or smth (have no idea how UE treats those things)

Developer(+1)

Okay good to know it wasn't just html5 being finicky.  I'd guess I got carried away with CPU particles on the oven and it effects some environments more than others.

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Ha! this was so satisfying. I am in the mood for some pizza now. Get Dominos to sponsor your game =p

Honestly, I there are a bunch of really cool ideas here. The movement was a little frustrating, but other than that pizza making was solid. Nice work =D

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it.  Yeah pizza and mechs was an easy win for all our inner 8 year-olds.

We were trying to walk the line (pun intended) between giving the movement some weight and having it be too clunky.  I think the colliders between the arm and things like the oven are probably the biggest annoyance.  It's tough to have some kind of skill ramp for movement but not be too awkward.

There's so much charm and originality to this!

I didn't get a chance to play it before the jam's showcase stream but I couldn't stop smirking watching it being played, the more I realised the funnier it got, like the fact the gluten is coming out of a cement mixer truck.

Out of curiosity, how did you do the dough flattening, my first guess would be it's being done with a shape key / blend shape?

Great job and kudos to the originality of it!

Developer(+2)

Glad you liked it!  It's one of those things that's starts as a joke "wouldn't it be funny if you were making pizza in a mech" and then it turns into "so it's settled, we're making a pizza making game" haha.

There's 4 dough meshes that we swap between as the player interacts:

  1. The round un-kneaded one (rigidbody)
  2. The kneaded ball with the flat bottom (another rigidbody)
  3. A cylinder shape that never gets removed from the plate (this is the spinning one)
  4. The pizza crust which is another rigidbody that gets attached

The cylinder one on the plate is just made so we can stretch the scale on x and z while we spin the y axis and it still looks reasonable

Our source is up here if you want to check it out: https://github.com/ataboo/mj2023 but be warned that it's game jam code haha.
