I want a rocket camel so badly now…

Submitted(+1)

I didn't even know that was possible! Thats crazy! 5/5 for creativity alone <3

Developer

Many thanks Mickie!

Submitted(+1)

coding something like this is crazy
great track though, sounds epic

Developer

Sounds right, then!

Thank you

Submitted(+1)

COSMIC CAMELS!? (Bro, you're an absolute mad lad for coding music haha!)

Developer(+1)

Dunno, that's what the music told me to do!

Submitted(+1)

Ridiculous... How can you do something so good by coding it lol. You're insane, and I love you for that fact alone. On top of that the song is matching the picture 2000% aahah. Such a nice job wow!

Developer(+1)

We really live in the weirdest timeline, ain't it? Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

This is such a creative way to make a track. I'm a programmer too and its still astonishing to me! Nailed a space vibe. Loving the chord options especially the arpeggios using the b6 degree over the major tonic chord. Great work!

Developer

Much appreciated! That b6 is the most camelish thing in the piece. I was unsure about it at first!

Submitted(+1)

Wow I really enjoyed! This is really fun soundtrack, solid composition, for me fits well in a space game, and impressive the fact that you made it with code.

Great job!

Developer

Thank you!

OMG CAMEL

This was a very beautiful composition with the space vibe and... YOU DID IT WITH CODE? You're insane. A madman with good skills and persistence..... Cool!

P.S. You're right. There was at least one space camel in my world of all things..... THEY are everywhere... HELP ME

Developer

You are very kind, I'm glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

That introduction is really catchy! The sound you used are nice but you could have tested to play less with long notes and more rythmic short notes a certain moments!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It's a valid suggestion. After lot of listenings, you are so 'familiarized' to how your own song sounds that some changes alter it in ways that get you lost  or uneasy.  Once the 'nice' level is reached, the fear of doing damage kicks in...

Submitted

that's true!

Submitted(+1)

Pretty interesting listen. Liked the different synths used. Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool how you used one track to convey multiple songs! Kinda like movements in classical music. Clean transitions between them too.

Also, as the other guy said, CODING the music is, for lack of a better word, bonkers.

Developer

Thank you! I AM obviously bonkers!

Submitted(+1)

you literally CODED the music I can't even wrap my head around how you did things like alter how long each note was and have them play in the proper order that is so cool!

very impressive.

Developer

Thank you fella!

HUH EXCUSE ME? You literally coded music, and it sounds super chill. Absolutely the most creative DAW I've ever seen :D

Developer

Thank you! I'm just doing what video game composers did in the 8-bit era of console and home computers, but easier!

Submitted(+1)

Wow never heard about this tool, this is so cool! Execution is amazing, but I agree with one of the comments where this would have been better if it moved more
Was it difficult writing music like this ?

Developer

Difficulty is a relative concept, hard work is absolute :)
Having the programmer mindset helps A LOT with tools like Strudel. After you get it, you still have to put in the hours to polish and enhance the result. Strudel is faster in the early stages (prototyping, experimenting, scaffolding). The polish part requires more patience: hoping that inserting a little detail won't screw up the timing or you discover that the nuance you have in mind requires a huge refactoring of the script).

Watching the YT video of the code executing is genuinely mesmerizing. Combined with your clear talent and ethic for composition, I have no doubt that if you continue making those videos they are going to absolutely blow up sometime. Glad I can be here before 100 subs 😎.

Truly incredible stuff.

Developer

Thank you very much, you are very kind! I think I'm just a tinkerer, really. I'm inspired by the true composing genius of Tim Smith, and the very very smart people behind the Strudel project. I assure you, everything  that you saw and hear was utterly alien to even myself few years ago. I'm still awestruck as you are :)

Submitted(+1)

This is a really nice throwback to that old school sound that never gets old! I felt like I was going on an adventure to a far away planet while listening to this composition. Also, extra credit for using strudel, I know wouldn't have the patience/knowledge for this but you do! Thank you for sharing!

Developer

Thank you! That's the vibe i was looking for. I'm Strudeling a lot lately, so I'm getting a LIITTLE bit proficient with it. I think it's the same with any tool: climbing the learning curve.

Submitted(+1)

Very innovative composition tool., it's the first time I've heard  of people composing music by writing computer code. It doesn't sound very detailed, but on a macro level it is a proper track with different sections with tension and release. Kudos for the novel approach!

Developer

Your analysis is spot on! Thank you

Submitted(+2)

Such a lovely camel! My inner world definitely needs one like this :)

Submitted(+2)

This composition method is so insanely cool. I LOVE this. I would love to see what more this type of composition can do.

Developer

Strudel (and his brother Tidal Cycles) is mainly a live coding tool for events like Algorave and similar. The changes can be re-evaluated in real time without disrupting the timing and flow. Everything  is patternable (not only notes, but also effect parameters, chords, volume..).

Upside: very fast  prototyping of macro structures, cyclic patterns and basic arrangements. Fast iteration, faster than moving around or cut/paste lots of identical bars in piano roll.

Downside: every unique detail (non-looping melodies, particular dynamic variations) must be typed out and timed properly (script  gets longer). In that respect, a piano roll approach is faster.

This tool is constantly evolving, though, many obstacles will be hopefully removed.

Submitted(+1)

Keep writing with it, I am so confident you can create something insanely cool with it!

Submitted(+1)

This is really special it fits but its very linear, I would love something to move a bit more, more emotions. But I gotta give originality for the creation, I don't even know how you composed with coding, this is absolutely insane to me.

Developer

Thank you very much! I totally agree with you about the linearity and flat dynamics. I entered the jam in the last 4 days, no time to fine-tune a lot of things (the script can become spaghetti pretty fast). But still, I have enjoyed the experience!
