Description
My fictional game would be titled Two Worlds, it is a 2D platformer/metroidvania that challenges your way of navigating the world where the boundaries of reality are constantly shifting.
You incarnate a Fox (Dark in Light world and White in Dark World) in search of his true path. As he delves deeper into the dual worlds, he must confront his own fears and insecurities, growing stronger with every challenge he overcomes.
Main mechanic: Seamlessly switch between two parallel worlds at any time, navigating through intricate levels with a unique timer and cooldown system. Each world offers distinct challenges and opportunities, requiring strategic thinking and precise timing.
It will be a necessity to switch between worlds or else no progress will be made. For exemple Dark world offers different powers/abilities and level design will morph with it.
Interactive Soundtrack: Dynamic musical experience that evolves as you play. The soundtrack transitions from light to dark seemlessly at any time in the musical soundtrack.
Each track has a "softer" side and transition into a distorted/glitchy and sometimes ominous vibe to the Dark side. So I created all the music keeping in mind that they can switch at any time from one mood to the other.
Track no 1 - Two Worlds
This track is the introduction level to the game as everything is unstable and we can hear some distortion in both light and dark side of the soundtrack but more since it is the introduction of the main mechanic of switching to dark side we stay longer in the dark side.
Of course in game it will work but for the sake of the Jam I did compose some custom transitions to make it work even better. A looping can be made from 0:14 to 0:43 when the main theme starts and transforms with the transition into dark. There whole track can loop from start to finish to but it is not the intention as in the game we want to switch at any point
Track no 2- In Between
We are used to the mechanic and are able to switch from Light to Dark easily, this track is way more dynamic and uplifting . At the end of the track we can still hear that we are not fully in control with the glitchy/distorted effect putting us back.
Track no 3 - Amidst
We are in perfect control of our abilities, the soundtrack can switch perfectly from Light to dark at any time, good for speedrun strat, using with almost no cooldown between the world switch we can navigate the levels with more ease. Loops from 0:12 to 1:12 (Light) perfectly with 4 bars intro and from 1:12 to 2:12 (Dark) which can be crossfaded at anytime using a transition mechanic.
I used Nuendo 11 for mainly all of the MIDI and musicale aspect of the composition and Reaper for the Sound Design.
Message from the artist
I had a blast doing this interactive soundtrack, wish I could've done more. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I did composing :)
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
Inside my world : My game features a unique mechanic that constantly switches between two sides of the same world: one good and one bad. As you journey through this world, you'll need to navigate both light and dark realms to reach the end. This duality represents my personal vision of the world.

Great ambient tracks and well produced ! top notch sound design and mix !
Good job ^^
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it :)
OMG your music sounds so cool! I can picture myself playing the game as I listen to your songs. Amazing job!
I really enjoyed the sound design and arrangement of all the synths. Nothing sounded like it was competing for space or function. Another thing I thought was done really well was that there were sections later in the tracks where you removed the percussion, increased the contrast in the piece.
Thank you for the attention to details, yes I did try to greate some different dynamics and be the least boring possible.
I loved the synths throughout! awesome submission!!
Thank you :)
Big Tron Legacy vibe straight away with this synth ostinato haha
I like your percussions a lot in In Between. It creates an interesting texture!
Overall, I liked your submission a lot. Cool ideas, great execution. :)
Very interesting sound direction, love how you interpretted and fleshed out the theme so schematically. I love how you melded the idea of interactive soundtracks into your mix and instrument selection through contrasting mixes and pallettes. The style reminds me a lot of Risk of Rain 2, but with a darker/grittier undertone in the percussion. Also really impressed by your percussion programming, the way it moves in the tracks keeps me listening on high alert. Really impressed!
Thank you, yes lots of people commented on Risk of Rain 2, which I actually never listened to before the jam, it is a pure coincidence that the inpisration comes from this. Glad you enjoyed the direction I chose :)
This got to be one of my favorites! I enjoyed all of the tracks, especially "In Between". So many things going on yet it all sounds good together.
Thank you for this lovely coment, glad you enjoyed it :)
This is absolutely fantastic. I love the metal influence. Like, I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but it absolutely has that metal semi-classical sound that isn't quite classical that is really just its own thing in the first track.
But it's also wonderfully mixed and so pleasant to listen to, and creates such a strong vibe.
Very, very good work. It's also nice and varied. I have to say, this one is definitely one of my top contenders, and there has been a lot of very good work in this competition.
It's passing what I call the "heart vibe" as well, like you clearly put yourself into this.
Bravo! :)
For the metal thing, I think it was a pure coincidence, I just wanted to distort everything as much as possible to create a big contrast between the light version and the dark version of the song and thank you for your lovely comment :)
I like this futuristic yet natural sounding atmosphere you created here. There's so much interesting ear candy and unique glitchy effects that keep you invested and intrigued until the end. The track "In Between" was out of this world and was definitely one of my favorite tracks! Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you very much, super happy you enjoyed it.
Rare Nuendo user! This is seriously cool, all the glitchy percussion and distorted stuff, reminds me a lot of Risk of Rain 2. Really well produced and mixed. I think my favorite track is Amidst but I love them all, great work!
Yes Nuendo wooooo (kinda stucked to it was cheap with my student licence back in the days). Thank you very much, indeed never listened to Risk of Rain 2 before the jam, pure coincidence that the inpisration comes from this, glad you enjoyed the production :)
01 - Two Worlds - lol everyone is so disciplined how carefully they build compared to my freeform :) This was great as it crescendoed in the first part and picked up steam.
02 - In Between - see the beginning of this is where i need to be patient enough to do a pad-voice track (usually I fail that test). Enjoyed the tense energy in the middle section.
03 - Amidst - beautiful echo-piano going on, good coordination with the percussion which wasn't too overbearing and the energetic later portion felt just right.
Thoroughly had fun overall. Nice work
Thank you :)
Ooo the opening of Two Worlds is amazing. Loved the brief moments of distortion and the tension that is being built up. Awesome track.
In between has a lovely serene yet intense feel to it. Very nicely done.
Amidst, I'm not sure what to make of it. I think the opening would be stronger without rhythm, but the second half is pretty good.
Overall I loved Two Worlds the most and I think it's the best one of the three. It was a really strong opener. Great job!
Thank you for listening :) Glad you enjoyed the arrangement
Personally, one of my favorites of the jam so far. Epic sound design and arrangement. Reminds me of KoanSounds and Mr. Bill. Now for critiques (written with permission from the composer). Overall, the mix for all 3 songs was great! Personally, leads like the guitars in Amidst were a bit too dark for me. Adding some more saturation to the harmonic frequencies could've really helped them to shine and pull at the audio-heartstrings more. The kicks in your songs also could've been clearer. I'd imagine they'll especially feel weaker on mobile phone speakers. Layering with some more high end thwacks or maybe cutting a bit more low end and adding a clipper to really boost that kick could've helped to get the kick to really punch through. Finally, in terms of "game music", your music would fit really well for the theme and story you were going for, but the way the music is made, it feels like each song could've even been from different games. Without a leitmotif to tie the three songs together, it felt more like I was listening to an artist's EP more than a game album. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to listen to your music a ton more after this jam is over, but I actually struggled to imagine this all panning out in a story-based game. TLDR: Each song sounds great (even EPIC and I loved all 3 so much!) on its own, but I wouldn't be surprised if each song was from its own game.
Thank you for the feedback ! I would agree and disagree on some topics. Agree for the leitmotiv it could enhance the correlation between all the tracks to have a main motif. Disagree for the kick on speaker XD, tested it, it sounds okay but its not a mobile game so it does not matter (Don't you guys have phone?!) . Thanks for listening and giving this huge critique !
Sounds really good. Like actually good quality work. I enjoyed listening to it.
Thank you glad you enjoyed it :)
Amazing...! The music is so atmospheric, and the way the music shifts between the two worlds is masterfully done. I can already imagine the game just from listening to this OST. Really great job!
Thank you very much, super happy you liked it :)
Great stuff, I loved when Amidst picked up, it was very strong. Overall very well mixed and a pleasant listening. Good work!
Thank you glad you enjoyed the production :)
Brilliant, live the energetic electronic vibe!
Thank you very much ;)
The mix is so good and I love the rythmic in "In Between"!
Thank you :)
Holy, I was not prepared for the amazing composition to come! Already this is one of the best projects I've seen so far, simply spectacular! I also love the idea of the music shifting when changing worlds, adds some amazing creativity and makes the tracks much more interesting. I would love to see the game these songs are based on lol. I think I can agree with most of the people in the comments that the dark section in Amidst was absolutely amazing. You definitely know your stuff and I'm extremely impressed with what you were able to make. Amazing job!
Thank you very much for the compliment and really taking the time to write all of this !
spectacullar work man, amazing list of music you create, the first one was my favorite, spectacular x3
Thank you very much ! Super happy you liked it, really glad.
