  • The percussive elements in this submission are quite well executed and add a lot to the story that you are telling. They are at once clear but also extremely present which is something that is not always pulled off very well— the mix never felt muddy to me, while at the same time I definitely felt like their presence. I thought your use of electronic and synth elements was very skillfully executed as well, and in particular I enjoyed how you could seamlessly switch between them, giving the score a very nice feeling of diversity in overall tone and style while still remaining cogent as a broader whole. Definitely a very welcome choice! There are some noisy elements that I thought were sometimes more harmful than helpful in creating an atmosphere— mostly at the start of the tracks, where you are trying to make the best impression. Once those noisier elements— (are they actual sound effects?)— were brought out of the mix, I found myself very much enjoying what you were doing with the music, so it might be worth investigating if you can pull them out (or at least mix them down somewhat). You have a very solid grasp on how to tell a story with your music, as well as how to vary the overall sound palette and musical material in a way that keeps interest throughout. This is a difficult skill for a lot of people (including me!) to learn, and so I was very happy to hear it here. Very good work!

Description
I would say it's mostly Orchestral/Atmospheric! I wanted each track to be attributed to major parts of her journey.

most of this composing was just me learning about sound design and being able to lay down the ideas that were in my head with intent. i believe most of my methodology was trial and error.

I used Ableton for these tracks :)

Message from the artist
Thank you for creating this Jam :)

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
I interpreted the words as literally inside a world, one of the many worlds the adventurer Sofia travels to :p

Amazing work, great mix, very nice composition and orchestration. Really Age of Mythology in terms of style but  a bit more futuristic. Only in Quantus DT83 the perccusions are probably a little overwhelming in the mix at times and is hiding the other instruments but a part from that, great great job, well done !

i see i see,

I believe the more i mix the more i will be able to train my ears! ^_^

Thank you for noticing that!

One of the comments said that the songs reminded them of Terraria and I could definitely see that with how you add a little electronic flair to the otherwise orchestral and classical music. the way you experiment with it is well executed especially during the 2nd half of the songs of the soundtrack. It makes me wonder what kind of fantasy world sofia lives on.

Also cool cover art, it looks amazing

Your melodies are truly captivating and have a "mysterious old world" vibe that I loved. Amazing work :)

Nice work, love how you blended more sound design based composition with the orchestral style sounded kinda terraria like! How you blended ambient effects at the beginning of every track that flowed into the actual music was nice to hear as well

Discovery - Okay... Your soundtrack drew me in from the very first seconds! A bit of a creepy beginning, then it's like it's “lifting” and the general outline of some big world, then.... “brokenness”? I love that! (I don't know why, but the beginning of this track reminded me of the main menu theme from Outlast and The Beatiful People by Marilyn Manson..... heh)

Quantus DT83 - Heh... I'm on one side: soothing guitar, on the other side - an unknown creepy creature makes loud noises that are barely drowned out by the main melody. Then - intense percussion replaces the calm melody.... And then DYNAMICS!!!1! And damn, I love your blend of orchestration and industrial sound!

DuskTown - So... what we have here... Oriental sound with oriental instruments, aggressive percussion and electronic sounds that perfectly emphasize the tension of what's going on! Creepy voices, evil synthesizers and additional effects!

All in all - quality and amazing atmosphere. As a fan of this kind of sound I was very glad to hear your soundtrack! It fulfills its purpose as a game OST perfectly.

Thank you!

P,S. Can I ask... where did you get those voices?

Developer

Thank you so much!! ^_^

the voices are from an ableton plugin called "Voice Box" :D

The way the first unfolded itself was a real surprise! Loved your melodies and the variety throughout the tracks!

I really enjoyed your melodic choices, especially in the epic Discovery! In addition I thought your use of atonal sounds added a lot of texture.

Like others I also liked the transition in Quantus DT83. I could totally imagine that some in-game event would cause you to kick the bgm into the up tempo part and ratchet up the feeling of excitement!

Great job!

I can certainly relate when it comes to trying to compose with intent. Especially when it comes to designing sounds from scratch, I still rely on experimenting and rolling with what comes out haha! Jams like these help a lot because of their time limitation.

Beautiful orchestration mixed with some lovely ambience and sound design! Impressive mix too - well done!!

Very cool submission. The sound design was very fun to listen to.

One thing that stuck out is how all of the non ambient sounds sound really close, while the ambient sounds sound really far away. I think some more sounds in the “mid-distance” so to speak would improve the mix.

Very much enjoyed my listen.

Thank you! ^_^

That makes sense, i will keep this in mind moving forward :D

Love mix of classic instruments and electronic, they perfectly complement each other here. Great ear candys here and there, love sound design in those tracks! High quality work!

lovely atmospheric works, there's a real weightiness to the darker melodies present in quantus dt83 and dusktown, and i'm a sucker for reversed sounds like the ones at the end of discovery.

I really like the atmospheric and orchestral style you decided to go with! I also think you incorporated the electronic elements pretty well. If I had to choose a favorite track, I'd say Discovery because of the amazing introduction and unique usage of sounds throughout the whole song (that's not to say the other tracks are not as good tho, all of them bring such great compositions to the table as well!).

Overall I think you nailed combining electronic elements with such an atmospheric and orchestral OST!

That's all I have to say really, have a good day :D

Really loved the interesting and quirky sounds at the end of Discovery, and overall the project has a beautiful atmosphere <3

Woah, what a change of pace in Quantus DT83! Really took me by surprise, in a good way. I think the mixture of orchestral and electronic sounds was really well executed, I noticed it in DuskTown. Well done!

I like how you blended more experimental/industrial sounds in with the more traditional melodic elements. Could definitely see the game you were writing for,  good stuff. "Discovery" was especially crispy.
