Nice controls and nice level designs. Enjoyed my time with it!

Really cool game. Would of really liked a calming sandbox area to just enjoy swimming about and be one with the koi before the challenge began.

Submitted(+1)

Great mechanics, really like the building momentum stuff, good thing this game has such a calming atmosphere, cause it was causing me some rage haha, wasnt able to beat the last part with the giant water fall, probably died there like 40 times before giving up. great work

That last part was so tough! Was a very nice game tho, I love the momentum mechanic. It made the gameplay very unique from anything else I've seen in this jam, and I had a lot of fun too!

Submitted(+1)

The game concept is excellent. The gameplay is very satisfying. Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Very good. One of my favourites from this jam. Good movement and ambience.

Submitted(+1)

Cool game with the graphics and movement!

Submitted(+1)

Beautiful game with a movement system that takes some getting used to but feels very nice once it clicks. Pretty much a perfect submission in my eyes.

Though you might have made the same mistake as me in making the ending of the game so hard to reach that most people stop playing before being able to get a spot on the leaderboard.

But I did not only finish but then also went back to improve my time to about 50% of my first try. You can really feel yourself getting better at maneuvering the koi the more you play. Great job!

I always have a bit of trouble making games that aren't too difficult 😅. Still, I'm very happy to see that several people have managed to reach the end. Thank you so much for playing. I'm glad you liked it ❤️

I totally get it... towards the end of this jam's development time I actually thought about making parts of my game harder, because they just felt boring to me. If I ever participate in a speed jam again I will make sure to have multiple levels with increasing difficulty.  I think if there's at least one level where player's to be able to get onto a leaderboard it makes it way more likely for them to stick around and play more.

E.g. I was very close to giving up on the last jump of your game as well. I think I had to put in close to 20 minutes, which tbh most people simply won't, especially not if they don't feel like making progress. Most players probably won't even try on the same level for 2 minutes, let alone 20 :D I'm sure it's very similar for my game, so this was a big learning for me.

Great game, I liked all aspects of gameplay (camera, movement, level-design). Amazing submission!!

Vary Nice Gameplay, some of the Jumps here Hard as the fish gets Closer to your mouse it get Harder to control. Vary Fun to play and It was still fun when you are failing at the Jumps and the Arts is nice and make the game unique.

Gameplay is really nice love the Koi fish too :)

Super smooth gameplay, controls are simple yet effective!

It’s so satisfying when you start zooming around punctuated by a huge leap out of the water. I really appreciate the camera zooms too, great stuff!

Submitted(+1)

Great visuals with the smooth camera zoom and pan. I loved the concept overall. I feel it is a bit difficult to control the trajectory of the fish precisely while leaving the water sometimes as the camera moves and the relative position of the pointer changes quickly. An orbit-like control around the fish showing its trajectory would work better IMO. But, I loved the game. It is balanced and I had fun playing it :D
Great job overall.

Really solid, though that first rock was really, really tough to get past at first, mainly dying to it by having my tail hit it when my head was in the water.

I couldn’t figure out the final jump and gave up after quite a few tries, I watched your walkthrough and still don’t understand where to aim lol. It’s solid and good!

Developer(+1)

I didn't realize the first part would be such a big problem, since there are only two jumps before the first checkpoint. Initially, the first jump was even longer, and the fish was slower. For the final jump, you just need to aim straight up. You can trigger the end of the game by just going high enough. Thanks for playing and for continuing almost to the end of the game despite the difficulty at the beginning 😊

You had earned enough good will from me from Blindsight that I was willing to push past that first jump - I’m particularly poor at like predicting specific angles to get the right projectile arcs in games so I knew it was partly a me issue. I found myself surprised by how easy and fluid the rest of the game felt, minus getting the right angles to build up speed for the final jump at the end.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I think the time between death and respawn is about a second too long for my tastes - I think showing the player the actual angle they did their last jump at doesn’t necessarily make sense for the game (especially scope wise given the short timeframe), but every second between one jump and retrying it again is a second for my brain to completely forget how exactly I did it the time before lol

I really had fun with the swimming mechanics! It took me a few tries getting over the really tall mountains! I feel like this game has a lot of potential!

Submitted(+1)

Really fun and well made mechanics. unfortunately can get quite difficult when the camera doesnt want to cooperate. I really like how the bubbles respawn when you lose momentum. it feels very punishing that there are no time checkpoints even from the very beginning, but i suppose that makes sense. Very nice artistically and a great implementation of the theme too!

This started off as the one of the most frustrating for me to play, but after the first couple of obstacles and getting a feel for the movement this was by far my favorite game I've played all jam. I had so much fun and sound affect for the fish thunking it's lil head made me laugh and took away a lot of my frustration when I'd lose. All around amazing submission!!!

Really satisfying when you get a perfect jump on the first try. Also really frustrating to mess up your jump for the 5th time in a row! For such a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere, I was getting more frustrated than I want to admit lol.

I absolutely love the animation and movement of the fish, but sometimes that would lead to him doing a twirl and sharp turn if he gets too close to the cursor near the surface, and then he'd jump out of the water to his demise. Another case was when the camera suddenly zooms out near a transition point and makes your cursor aim in a slightly different direction. My speedrun lasted about 8 min before I had to throw in the towel, a checkpoint or two past the waterfall section.

A few things that might have made it more fun would be not losing the speed boosts you get — making them a part of the overall progression rather than mini puzzles, or having a slightly higher base move speed without them so you could get to the first boost again faster after respawning. Another would be having slight directional input you can do while airborne to give a little more leniency, cus some of the jumps were super precise and felt like I was just off by a hair and had no way of correcting a mistake by a few degrees.

Really gorgeous art and nice ambiance with the sound design! I also really loved the water shader effect underwater. Very nice work!

Ah that first rock!! (I couldnt get past it..) haha.. i dont know how you jump so high in your video.. The game looks nice, i like the idea.. Great cover image.

Developer (1 edit)

Well, just hold down the mouse button and jump out of the water at the right angle.  I didn't think the first rock would be a problem😅. Perhaps the physics work differently on different hardware ( though I've tried this on several computers).

I came back for more after seeing you comment somewhere else.. I got all the way to the restart text :D.. haha.. i love the concept and asthetic.. im just not so good at the game..

Submitted(+1)
