The presentation is absolute top notch. The game feels even faster than it truly is because everything looks and feels so juicy.
The gameplay never truly clicked for me. I don't know why, but I often times messed up the dash direction because my brain somehow couldn't handle permanently holding right and only momentarily holding up or down. To me this should be an autorunner (I don't see why you ever want to stop running to the right) and maybe even allow to control the dash direction precisely with the mouse instead of just 3 directions.
All that being said I want to make it clear that the gameplay was not bad, but I kind of wanted it to be great and not just good, so it would be on the same level as the presentation.
thank you for the detailed feedback! I definitely agree that this final design is suited to be an auto runner!
It's funny though... The reason why it's not is because of an early idea that never actually became part of the game. Initially I wanted there to be vertical passes and even some backtracking sections that you'd have to change directions... But never got to designing it. But the controls were built with that in mind!
If I expand on this game in the future I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind.
And in any case it's a good design lesson to reassess if your controls are still aligned with the current state of the game! Thanks for bringing that to my attention it's a great lesson. Thanks for playing!
Best game in the jam so far! The atmosphere and music design are awesome. I want to highlight the transitions between levels. For some, it’s a small detail, but I really liked it.
This is really cool! I really like the visuals and the gameplay. Thank you for the cool game!
The gameplay was surprisingly a lot simpler than i thought , there was a simple trick to finish it fast which was to just keep pressing the space bar. :) nice game overall
At first I actually had two buttons (one for jump, one for charge up) but it was actually really tricky to keep alternating the buttons and was more frustrating.
I decided to give simplicity a try and found it way more fun with one button for both! But it did make the game rather one-dimensional.
If I expanded this concept I think I'd focus on adding more to the level designs, platforming sections, and different obstacles types.
your game looks great. And the transition to one level to another was also great. I was playing it will my cousin and he specially liked your game. It was simply beautiful.
Really solid gameplay loop and mechanics. I found myself really pushing for the sub 60seconds.
Thanks for playing and glad to hear it held your interest after more than one play!
Who is gonna get the first sub-60second?!
The movement mechanics were fantastic! It would've been cool to see a different background, but those shaders were truly impressive. The sprite animations and smooth gameplay kept me engaged. 5 stars all around :).
Kudos on a job well done!
Simple and fun! Loved the aesthetics.
absolutely charming game. amazing gameplay loop and tutorialisation. very hard to put it down. It feels very fair and responsive. Visuals are great, but it doesnt entirely feel like its themed around ascension. Either way, a great product made.
I love how fast you can go, nice game
I loved the movement controls in this game! The sprite animations and fluidity of the gameplay really wanted me to keep playing! I didnt do super well for a speed run, but I think with practice I can really get it down. Amazing job!
epic game, loved the art style!
AHHH i love it the trippyness the sound the duck in a hat and the effects... killer for 3 days
Thankyou! I had a lot of fun playing with the shaders and creating the trippy bright color palettes for each level. Thanks for playing!
Nice graphics, I liked the trail. Controls felt pretty good too. Nice work!
Thank you for playing and leaving a comment! :)
Holyyy the graphics and music are soo good!
The gameplay felt satisfying and fast paced, happy to have gotten on the leaderboard!
Maybe the dash direction control felt a bit hard to use. Great job!
Grats on the leaderboard and thanks for playing! :)
Appreciate the feedback on the dash mechanism too I'll have to think about how to improve it
This was pretty fun, great aesthetics! I wish the super dash mechanic or whatever was explained? I don’t have the timing down to do it consistently but my first run was just totally confused why sometimes I would go way faster than others
There is a slight charge up to the phase ability with the bar that fills up when you hold space. There is also acceleration whenever you're running on the ground which stays with you until you hit a barrier or wall. Then you're max speed diminishes.
I wanted to leave a bit of the mechanics open to exploitation and mastery for speedrunning purposes. Even I don't really know the optimal way of achieving that. I think diagonal dashing down+right on the ground while accelerating can get some incredible speeds though.
Thanks for playing!
WOW this game looks good the colours and the VFX here are seriously amazing. I wish there were more platforming sections, I liked running fast a lot more than I did phasing through the barriers. The music is also legitimately fantastic!
You have no idea how many times I've listened to this song while developing lol. Battle of the bits has some amazing artists on there!
Thank you for the feedback! If I ever expand this I'll have to design some more platform sections for sure!
love the sound!
also really liked the style of the game!
good job!
Thanks so much! Glad you like the sound designs
Duck wizard thing goes brrrrrr! Juicy effects!
Glad you like the fx! Thank you for playing:) shout out to the shader wizards I listed in the credits too!
