Yeah, I unfortunately had to sacrifice plenty of the useful features to make it, I was a bit ambitious with this one hehe
For the light, it's just me who didn't added more since it's a feedback that commonly came back, this will be fixed and all for the next update ;)
Thank you very much for the review!
This game has everything to be a great investigation game!
It looks good, it has a superb atmosphere, it's full of features which works, it has customization and character selection (a good surprise), the HUD is well thought, there's even a tutorial!
I really hope there will be a full version of this because it has a lot of potential!
Beautiful game with great atmosphere, I think I never felt that scared about some runes
The problem I had though were the puzzles being a little too cryptic to get without the cheat sheet, also, but it could be just due to my machine getting too old for such graphics : it was very laggy...
A chance I'm too stubborn to give up due to slow fps, but still a pity
Other than that, it was a good game!
This was a good looking game with fun atmosphere and free movement system.
Fighting enemies was hard though, between managing shields and power and missiles, it was not easy.
Though the main problem I had what finding the way to the goal... I happened to leave the maze which I suppose was intentionaly according to the screenshots, though once outside, I suddenly was unable to move, or at least, the screen was not refreshing anymore to show my move as the only thing which kept moving was the compass which did not cleared itself between frames, making itself repeating.
And the problem is when I restarted the game (using the menu which kept working), the problem didn't stopped. (See the screenshot to see what I mean)
Still original and interesting entry though!
This is a good base for a puzzle game, I like that!
Simple, short and efficient, and I liked the little suprise at the end allowing to see the test chamber where all features were tested;
For bugs, well I got soft-locked twice. I deserved it the first one because I returned without the orb which I didn't found but couldn't return to the dungeon because I've managed to steal the torch of the tutorial I wasn't supposed to carry with me! (take that master for telling me I should not take it with me :P) but for the second time, I've just been too slow to cross the trap door... and it re-opened itself before I could cross it... So without the iron key respawning I was unable to go further!
But at my third attempt, no soft-lock this time, I've completed the game and enjoyed it!
Good job!
This game has potential, the fact we can explore the place, see new item while looking around on the bookshelves, and mutilating enemies was fun!
Now the problem is the pointer not being synch with the cursor which makes the game not really comfortable to play, the beep for the text which is pretty aggressive to the ear, and the death screen in which the Return To Main Title didn't worked while spamming the terrible text beep I mentionned...
But this aside, the game is beautiful and offer some ambience which only need some ambient sound or music to be complete, please, continue this game! :D
The game is interesting and instaure a great atmosphere, though the game is deviously hardcore with a crazy difficulty... Enemies kill us very easily and chest do hurt even when using the careful opening which combined with the randomly generated maze and the fact we have to use healing potion to prevent the corruption from spreading, this really make this game a game that rare players would complete
In matter of bug, I only met one and unfortunately a troublesome one : interacting with an opened chest lead to a freeze which can be escaped from only by press alt+f4
Though I'm aware it's a lot of work done in just a week and this makes this entry a good one. I hope it would be extended and fix because it would worth another try with some more difficulty balance
I liked the combat system and the dialog content
The issue I had was the music playing with the combat music several times, and the font which was strange, extremely stretched making it hard to read
I also managed to find an "out of bound" ie I escaped the map by spamming the strafe button while looking for secrets. Per chance I've managed to return in-game by doing the same. (see screenshot )
But it was fun exploring your game!
Excellent game!
I loved both the gameplay and design!
The only problem I had was a bug which prevented me to win : the 8 legged demon. I killed it in both plans and the Oracle still act like if it wasn't dead. Thinking it just meant I was able to kill the necromancer, well, I did and killed him... and nothing happened. But well, in my head canon I consider myself victorious anyway haha
Good work!
A bit confusing to know where to go or what to do, but still interesting to play two dungeon at the same time, and I kinda liked the name of the dungeon and the Rage-Quit control in the help menu made me laugh hehe
Just a pity I had to give up due to lack of indication to know where to go next. I found some sort of red cucumber with the Fire Dungeon and struggled at leaving the room. For the blue dungeon, I searched the place but didn't found my way and I always end up dying from the encounter at the end.
But overall, it's a promising game with great visual, ambience and pleasing music which I enjoyed a lot!
This was a nice little game!
Complete and surprisingly quite long!
I liked the exploration of phobia as a theme, I just wished the thing would have been pushed further with much more spookier models for the rats and new features when in panic mod.
Though for one week of work, that's still a lot!
I hope you plan expanding it and going further and deeper in the fear theme
Also I may add, this is the most german game I ever saw! haha
Brillant little game!
I liked feeling lost and trying to find my way in this upside down puzzle
It was nice to look, sweet to play and escaping was satisfying! What I found amusing was the game allowing me to mark a floating cross in the air by using a chalk on a slime hehe
It liked it! I even had the opportunity to take the treasure!
Good job!
It was a good looking game and with a sweet atmosphere,
The issue I had was I barely heard the notes due to the atmosphere so following the melody was very hard... I mostly beat the game by brute forcing it to be honest... :/
Though I did it at the end haha
I guess the ambient sound should be more balanced so we could hear better the melody and then complete the sequence
Still good job about the graphics and the ambience! And thank you for this entry!
I come a little late and think everything was said about it.
Like many said, the game in its current state lacks of finishing as it suffered from features not working well and bugs such as death, item picking, fights, invisible walls.
Though I like the idea and I've seen on Discord you continue working on this game, and you do well! The arts are beautiful and using a tale as a base for a game is always interesting.
It's nice to see all these ambitious features planned with the inventory, armorset and party, and I hope to see all of these fixed in the future. :)
Nice puzzle game with a clever level design and interesting puzzles.
It reminded me Chip's Challenge (not sure if this reference is known haha) but with two characters instead!
I like the fact you decided to make us face our other self at the very beginning so we understand who is the other character we're playing because my first reflex has been to shoot myself haha
The music was relaxing and the game made my think hard to succeed but I made it to the end so congratulation for this nice game!
Ah, I admit I did no real performance optimization and all the textures are 512x512. If your material is vintage, this is a great effort for your hardware to display this all. I guess other entries maybe have this more optimized than me or using things with lower res.
Unless it's due to the V-Sync? It's the first time I've been reported about crashes anyway. Would worth the investigation because if my game is the only Godot game which did crashed on your machine, it would be interesting to know why! Especially if you do enjoyed the few you managed to see before the game closed :)
Thank you very much for this kind and detailed review! And yeah, I've been told by many players about my unconvientional inputs, I guess it needs to be fixed for next update. Though to free Q and E for turning around, I would like to know which input you would feel comfortable for next/prev item? Because Tab and Shift+Tab are alternative known key bindings for that but maybe not the best choices
This is a nice game with enjoyable graphics and combat style.
Though I've unfortunately been unable to complete the game because of a bug which made the game freeze for no reason entirely randomly. I don't know if I'm the only who suffered such a problem...
It's a pity because I really wanted to play it fully, may it be fixed soon after the jam!
Well, to be frank, I saved humanity but have definitely no idea how I did it haha
I understood the fights were some sort of debate and choosing the correct words would convince the robot we're talking to, but I had no idea which answers were working or not, and didn't understood the role of pills.
But it was still fun to visit this little world with this sweet catchy music!
The only real problem I had was the command not always responding, like if there were some delay between each input gathering like a snowball until all sudden get chained, it was strange. Maybe a bug?
But at least, the narrative, the theme, the completeness and the audio were great and I liked the graphics!
Good job on this entry!
That's what I call a nice game which entirely nailed the retro aesthetic!
I loved that! It's just a pity the narrative interrupt the music which breaks the atmosphere a little, and the fact we can't have control of fights (I had Luther who decided to heal himself twice while he was full life and Thorak was wounded - do they hate each other? ;P)
Anyway : good job on that game because if someone brought it to me and told me it was an old game bought on GoG, I would have believed it!
Well, I use to read description, but seeing the remaining time for ratings.. I stopped doing so in order to play as much entries as possible before the deadline ^^" Sorry for not seeing this info!
But well, at the end I managed to find out by myself ;)
For tutorial about dodging, I do think you would just need to add a room large enough and one single enemy in the middle.
This way, the player could have enough room to dodge it and understand the strategy to adopt without risking to be beaten to death. Because what makes it hard to understand in the current version is the fact you meet your first enemy right behind a door in a room in which it's not alone.
So this leads to the situation in which, your first fight happens either in a narrow corridor or surrounded by multiple enemies, which don't give the player the time to experiment and understand
Excellent game!
It has everything for a great RPG, it's beautiful, it plays well, exploration is rewarding, there are stats. I definitely enjoyed it a lot!
The only things that are missing are some information about the stats and their purpose, and also little information on how to fight (I died like a noob at the first wraith because I had no idea how to attack before trying all keys and mouse buttons and then finding out)
Though if it was the price to pay to have such a complete game in a week, I definitely would tell it worthed the sacrifice of the tutorial! haha
Excellent job!
This reminded me System Shock in matter of ambience. I liked the aesthetic, the mood and the exploration.
I just wished the rules would have been explained earlier though to understand how the game is working in matter of fight system and the numeric world. Because once we understand how to play, the game become enjoyable and just expect us to keep focus on our step and the management of space. But before that, we'll just die quickly, not really understanding how to pass the first enemies.
If an extension is planned, I would suggest to add a little tutorial with some almost safe zone so the player understands they have to dodge the enemy's attack then attack them during a turn of rest they all spend after their last blow, and how the numeric tiles work (maybe making the numeric worlf kicking us back to reality upon failure rather than death?)
Anyway, the theme is perfectly respected, the theme is neat and I admit having enjoyed the game a lot!
Good work on this entry ;)
Yeah, there are several things you said which were reported a lot like the lack of indications and the lights. These would definitely be fixed next update ;)
For the things to destroy, well, it's part of the warning I wrote in the game description about the text lying to you. Since I had to rush the level design like a maniac to make it with the deadline. Hence the walls accidentely placed on "walkable" tiles (hence you crossed a wall and saw AI doing so), the rough edges and the absence of secrets.
But yeah, AIs are pretty much aggressive when they see you. And I gave them a function to quickly calculate a pathfinding so even if you go far, they can chase and find you. Else, it can be just bad luck since when there's no target, I've decided to make them wander in a quite large radius. Which makes their position always different from a game to another but can also end up with them hidden in tricky spots, especially in dark areas or standing on items.
In the future, when the update will come, there would be a lot of changes and the game may certainly play differently. I'll certainly make noise on Discord when this will be ready! There are big works to do haha
But I'm glad to see the UI/Inventory and Stats did worked well for more of players!
Thank you very much for this review!
Hehe, you're the first person who tells me they put points in intelligence!
I'm glad you liked the backstory and the gameplay despite the mispells and some lack of instructions about fighting (I plead guilty on these...) but I'm even more pleased you managed to beat the game with the power of the shotgun!
Unfortunately, I don't think you did missed a lot of things since the level had to be finished quickly and thus offer a little content compared to what I planned originally to make it with the deadline.
And yeah the fact enemies can manage to give a blow before dying is a bug which I still have to figure out and fix
The game will have an extension anyway in which I plan to fix all the bugs and create more content for a more interesting level design, I may also change the inputs
Thank you very much for this review !
Thank you very much!
Well, to implement this, I had to disregard other aspects which got scrapped or rushed (though some are coded just not used) such as sounds for enemies/walking/weapons, animations using just transforms and linear interpolation, a simplified level design, no secrets and keeping the basic mechanics to have a DoomRPG gameplay.
Using an AI to generate the textures also saved a lot of time to focus more on the code.
Though the feedbacks showed me this strategy to earn time played a little against myself since I've constructed the base of the game to be a RPG, not an action game. Also the inputs and actions system needs some enhancements to be more intuitive/comfortable.
So I indeed plan to extend it! But it may however take a little time before the next update since there a several things I have to fix and add. If things go as planned, it may play differently when it will be finaly ready to play
Thank you again for this encouraging comment!
This is certainly the most unusual entry we could find in a dungeon crawler ; though gonna admit it respects the theme and despite the lack of time you mentionned, you did something original which does work fine.
I'm far from behind a sport amator, but gonna say this game is ok and could even be played with a friend so it's a nice touch
So don't be harsh with yourself or your game, you definitely don't have to :)
Excellent game with unique gameplay and decent graphics!
I made time to get it about the altar expecting you to drop a One on it, maybe there should be some sort of hint to make a connection with the dice as at first I thought I had to find an item or hidden area.
But for the rest, it's an excellent work and to be frank, I definitely want more of this game and hope there will be some extension! :D
Thank you for this experience!
Excellent game which deserves a full score!
It's beautiful, it's dynamic, it's fully completed, the audio really launch into action and we feel speed and ready to kill some enemies. There are secrets, the first enemy lead us to undertstand quickly how to play, there are voice, fun traps and decent boss.
The only things that were troublesome was not being able to see the health of the enemies, and also the mini boss who had an armature issue (it was generating red planes going in all direction and blocking the view) though for a one week of work, this is a bug that is definitely too minor to affect the ratings.
Excellent work!
This game has potential to be a sweet crawler, I liked the slow and calm pace which gave it a relaxing sensation
It's a pity it suffered from the lack of time
My greatest issues were the way the gameplay has been set, having the movement command queueing would be a necessary thing to implement in further update so we could hold the movement keys to go from a tile to another.
The only trouble I really had were the enemies having a little too much HP while our attack has a quite long cooldown which makes the game having its dynamic going down.
I also reached the final room with the boss and last Soulstone which could not be interacted with. I hope I could have reached a form of end screen with it, but I guess it's all due to the lack of time.
Well played anyway with this entry and its complete tutorial ;)
