I liked when I kept switching what I was when I went off the map.

How does your game represent Mode?
In ModeWrap, you will frequently change character "modes" by screenwrapping in the level.
Going out one end of the screen will teleport you to the opposite side but as a new character with different traits.
The player must adapt to this constant mode switching while trying to collect as many coins as possible.

This reminded me of the mario bros pvp game but with the added layer of intuitively swapping modes by wrapping around the screen either vertically or horizontally. I think my favorite mode had to either be big or small mode, running around super fast is obviously fun and big mode felt like having an unlimited supply POW block. I also liked how I had to swap out of big mode to go down the level. This was a fun and polished game that I could see being at home on a mobile gaming store. Great job!
The screen-wrapping is a great way to change modes. It's a very natural, intuitive, almost diegetic way to handle it over allowing the player to switch through just a button press. It's good game feel.
Solid and original idea! The game's general simplicity gives each mode room to shine. While more maps and enemy types could extend the gameplay, the current game stands perfectly on its own as a short, sweet, and tightly built experience. Nice work!
Very cool idea! The modes are all unique and pretty balanced, and was engaging having to quickly adapt to whatever character you got swapped to next. Would love to see more enemy behaviors/maps that can further change up the gameplay styles!
I like the twist on Mario Bros arcade! Would love to see different stages implemented maybe. I like the music, but would love to hear maybe a hectic boss encounter when a new enemy appears! It plays well also, but noticed enemy collision is slightly off when screen wrapping!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I agree that some new stages or boss ideas would give the game a lot more life. If I ever revisit it, that'd be fun to make.
The off-looking enemy collision when screen wrapping is intentional though. I just decided to make enemies temporarily nonlethal when they enter the screen to prevent cheap deaths from unforeseen enemies. Likewise, the player has some i-frames when screenwrapping themselves. It might actually be too forgiving as it is. But with some tweaking and maybe visual indicators for the different states, it could read as intentional instead of looking like a bug.
Wow! This is a really polished game. I like the choice in color scheme and character designs. You can tell that the movement for the different modes has been tested thoroughly. The screen shake for Big Mode is a nice touch as well. I did feel like some of the modes were not as useful as others, but I could always dodge enemies and try to get a different mode instead.
Cool game!
Love your spin on the mario bros mode. It's quite puzzling sometimes wich way to go and how the new form change your track. Technically is working perfectly with seamless transition from point to point.
Looking good
I love this! The game is simple yet interesting. I like the enemy variety and the pixel art as well. My only criticism would be that other than Big, my playstyle didn't seem to change very much between the different modes. I still had a lot of fun though, good game overall.
I would appreciate it if you checked out my submission as well!
Wonderful interpretation of one of the classic Mario bros games. Loved how the idea of mode was incorporated and it was fun playing as all the different little guys. Great work!
Neat idea! It was fun to figure out how to get from here to there most quickly. I kind of fell into a Tetris-like rhythm with it after a little bit. Nice work!
Fun little arcade game! The music was catchy and the whole style was nice and cohesive. Cute entry!
Fun arcade-y vibe! The flying enemies are rough. It seems like the next character you become is random? If so I wonder what would happen if the order was fixed. I also liked that the characters had unique physical sizes (i.e purple guy won’t fit through the second layer of the level so he’s not op)
Really well polished game, good job! One thing is it might be good to clarify if it's entirely random what the next mode is or if it's some pattern based on where you leave the screen. Either one works but letting the player know off the bat could help them strategize. Overall really good!
