How does your game represent "Power"?
Because of the theme I wanted to make a racing game that is all about power and thus you don't need to get to the finish line as fast as possible but to gather as much speed (power) as possible before crossing the line.

Instead of racing against time the game rewards you based on how fast you are going (how much power you're exerting) at all times.

Very nice aesthetic.

Only wish the turning was less stiff as moving in the direction I wanted was quite difficult.

Keep it up!

Lighting is very good.

this is like f-zero on crack and id love to see this get turned into a full game!! great work!

nice little game, i love how you made what you could with the assets, pretty cute. Wish there were more levels

Developer

That's all the modeling i had time for lol 👀 and only got to 4 levels with that. Should have prioritized making levels definitely more.

Fun and quick game about going fast! Music was awesome

Really cool spin on trying to have the most speed for each level!!

Think I was a bit confused on one level where there seems to be a ring across a chasm and I kept trying to jump across xD

But then I found the goal behind me xD

You might enjoy our game as well! Trying to go as fast as possible is the focus of a few of our levels :)

Fun quick play. I'm a big fan of fast and this whole game is about fast.

Yo this is really cool!  I was thinking of an F-Zero/Extreme-G type of game and this has those vibes!  I like your speed twist too.  Would love to see long drag races with multiple people trying to get top speed!

Submitted(+1)

Music getting more intense as you gain speed is a really nice touch!

Really liked the interpretation of the theme and was surprised at how easy it was to pick up. great job!

Great visuals and the feel of the game!

I have mixed feelings about controls - I kinda like the smooth feeling of them, but it was sooo hard to collect more than one energy box without dropping speed. It would also be nice to have some benchmarks to compete against, though.

Nice submission, and kudos for Godot! :)

Yeah my biggest regret is not implementing a ranking system for the scores in time.

Really neat approach to the theme! Love the dynamic music based on speed and while it's a bit too slippery for me, the controls are overall really nice and responsive. My main critique would be regarding the level design. The levels feel too small and the turns too tight to really keep your speed going. Though I'd say you could go with 2 approaches with that. Either more linear levels like the last one, or (and I feel this would be the more interesting approach) you could make power drain a little slower / add a drifting mechanic to help make those turns a little more accessible while keeping up the pace. But overall a really solid entry, nice work!

Tight cohesive game with great mechanics for a jam. Easy to pick up and play but there's good replayability and little mastery within each level. Music is fitting with the outrun aesthetic and once the aberration kicked in the need for speed was coursing through my veins.

fast

Developer

this is the highest form of compliment. Thank you!

Smooth game. lil thing I found is that that Senna throttle trick works in the game for better handling. So cool

Developer

What's a Senna throttle trick? Is that when you dial down the throttle for a bit to turn better?

Submitted

He pressed and released the throttle on corners over and over to maintain speed. Read more here: https://www.paradigmshiftracing.com/racing-basics/analyzing-the-f1-greats-ayrton-sennas-throttle-technique#:~:text=As%20Senna%20increases%20throttle%2C%20he's,begin%20the%20process%20over%20again.

Developer(+1)

Ha! Yeah, that's definitely what I was going for.

Submitted(+1)

Solid game with a nice twist on the standard.

Submitted(+1)

the controls are so smooth! i like that the car is slippery but yea more linear levels would be great but you should keep working on it after the jam!

Submitted(+1)

The music and visuals are very nice. The car feels very slippery tho, and I think the levels would better suit the gameplay if there were more linear tracks, like the last one. I sometimes had to come to a full stop to grab a speed boost. Overall like the idea of just going fast!

Developer

I was actually trying to make the levels more open ended since the scoring system rewards you on based how fast you are going at all times so it'd be fun to try out different routes to try to get the best possible speed multiplier when finishing. The last level was made more as a showcase for the effects. I agree that the handling ended up being a bit too drifty

Submitted(+1)

It's very cool how the music adapts to the speed of the vehicle. I think there could be some a target speed you have drive throught the gate to complete a level for some more challenge. Visually very pleasing game. Well done.

Developer(+1)

Yeah I ran out of time before implementing a target score system. But I posted my own scores on the screenshots so you may go ahead and try to beat those as an additional challenge. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

It's fun but it's so short

Developer (1 edit)

Did you beat my high scores tho. Didn't have much time to make levels in the end, but I think there's replayability in trying to better your scores.
