How does your game fit the theme?
You play as "Kalm", who is faced before the Council Of S.T.O.R.M.
Fast paced fun with a satisfying feel. Can you complete the trials quickly?

Featuring:

- 3D Arcade Style
- A Techno Soundtrack made especially for the game
- Excellent SPEEDRUNNER/Time-attack/score-attack
- 5 intense Levels
- Play in browser
- Keyboard or Game Controller
- Around 10+ minutes to complete

* Note: Shaders might cause a spike first time you play the game. For most people this will fix itself once you retry the levels!
Also, please try to avoid using mouse on the menu/retry screens, should be fine with keyboard/controller!! Cheers :)

When designing the levels, I wanted to make a fast paced game.
However, there is a "calm" moment (to rest your trigger finger!) before a storm of enemies and obstacles confronts you.

Making that last dash for the finish line an exciting adrenaline rush.

I've produced a custom techno soundtrack especially for the game. Both captivating and adding to the intense feeling in this storm of a game.

Help Kalm beat the S.T.O.R.M. and prove themselves worthy.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I developed the game and the code in Godot 4.3

I produced the original music and sfx in Ableton Live 12.

Meshes were royalty free or made in Godot/Blender.

Some shaders were taken from godotshaders.com; and a 100% free font

Funny name for a fun game. I think some of the spike walls could use some minor repositioning (I know, skill issue), and I'm not entirely sure what's the drawback of hitting normal walls.

Developer

:D I think there's a bit of RNG with the block spawns making some runs more difficult than others. I wanted to have more feedback with the normal walls, they were supposed to knock your speed down so they were more of a punishment to anyone going for a time-attack.
Certainly to be improved after the jam. Cheers :)

Very fun to play, after the second level everything was so satisfying. I had a bit of performance issues playing onbrowser

Developer

Thanks for giving it a good play, I probably should have started off more like the second level.  Good luck in the jam!

Fun neon runner. Like the music, very appropriate to a runner (but not sure for the hell lore).
Great work.

Developer

Thank you very much :)

I felt a lot stronger once I got the first item and it got a lot more fun after that. Between the dark lighting and the performance issues, it was really difficult to keep track of where anything was.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes the second weapon steps it up a bit! I didn't get to add all the lighting I would have liked to. It's on the todo list for after the jam :) Cheers!

This is too polished, it feels like a demo of an upcoming game more than an entry of a jam. The audio management is great, visuals have their charm and gameplay is fast. Without the staff of torment though, it's hard to completely get rid of the enemies, so I often resorted to dodging till I got the item. Of course it has some bugs, but they were already mentioned, so I won't bother you with those.

Overall, this is one of my favourites from this jam! Kudos!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm getting a lot of positive feedback so i think I will be continuing forwards with this project.  I've already been sent a couple of 'best times' for the trials  by players. So I think I'll be adding a leaderboard after the jam! Really glad you enjoyed it :)

as of writing this, i'll be the 20th rating, and i'm so surprised this game hasn't gotten more traction yet! the visuals and music are some of the most unique i've seen in the jam thus far, i genuinely cannot express how much i LOVE the music. like seriously get this stuff on spotify i will listen to it every day. i had a few performance issues, though it could be a specs issue on my end. regardless, this was an amazing experience! your game has such a striking style visually, and the game play is super fun. you should be proud!

Developer

Yay, number 20! Thanks for playing. I'm actually a music producer by trade ;) started game dev a couple of years ago. Means a lot to me that you love the tunes. I probs will get them out there, at least on soundcloud, youtube etc.. :) Awesome feedback, many thanks!!

Really nice gameplay and visual style. I thnk there's a lot going on so it lag spikes from time to time, and I think for some reason it might do it more often the first time through the level at certain intervals, but not so much the second time through the same level, such as after dying and trying again.

I really liked that the gamepad is supported.

On the second level I wanted to use the Restart Level feature from the menu since I missed the first boost somehow, but that was a mistake as it turns out it doesn't work and the game just stops working after selecting that, so I should simply reload the page and start over. There are a few bugs like that which should be fixed if the game is ever updated after the jam, probably starting with key ones like that.

I don't think it's game breaking enough to be ok to update during the jam under this jam's rules, because the game is still probably playable as long as the feature simply isn't used, so it might not be critical or game breaking enough to fix it for now, but it might be one of the first places to start fixing if the game is ever updated after the jam.

I might consider playing it again and seeing if I could finish it because I really like the game a lot, great job on this!

Developer

Yeah I'm not sure what changes you're allowed to make after the submission period, so I'm playing it safe :)
Will certainly be fixing those bits after the jam. There's a few bugs like the "restart level" that slipped past me - well that sucks! Thanks for letting me know so I can iron them out after the jam!
I think the spikes are being caused by shaders, once they're cached they seem to work a lot better or with no issues :)

I love the visuals and music for this game! My only issues were that sometimes is was a bit too dark for me to see where to go, and I got a lag spike when I collected the health. I absolutely love the style and gameplay though!

Developer(+1)

That's great, glad you had fun! In the future, I'll certainly be adding more lighting. It'll go well with the vibes of the music. Get a rave started!

Hee-ho. Cool game, but I have performance issue

Developer

Thanks for giving it a go Hee-Hoo!

Cool game!

  • Nice intro scene and music to set the ambience.
  • Would be good to have an option to skip intro.
  • Game music is good!
  • Retry Level doesn’t seem to work on mouse.
  • Took me a while to notice the health indicators on the right.
  • Got upto the second level. The improved attack here was really overpowering the enemies. Combined with high speed running I was just zooming straight ahead spamming attack 1. It was the insta-kill block that got me finally.
  • The visuals are pretty dark. I felt the objects should be more clearly visible.
  • There's some semi-transparent barriers which I can't get through, but the enemies seem to be coming at me though.
  • The game hits the spot in terms of feel. The adrenaline of speed running, evading or destroying enemies, jumping over obstacles was captured really well.

Good job overall :)

Developer(+1)

This feedback is awesome. Very much appreciated.
Sounds like some of the enemies have been a bit sneaky and slipped behind the walls :) I agree with the weapons too, maybe the first gun needs beefing up a bit?  And some added lighting is needed.
When I update the game after the jam I'll be taking notes from this. Big thank you!

Really nice soundtrack. It was pretty laggy on the web as others have mentioned, and some of the graphics could blend better with each other. Great entry.

Developer

Thank you so much, glad you liked the tunes!

Submitted(+1)

Cool runner game. It is laggy for me (web build). Keep it up :)

Developer

Thank you so much :)

Dying screen 10/10 xD It was a bit laggy for me, which killed me most of the times. Pretty hard but nice intro and cool level selector menu ui nice job!

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks! I think I'll be working more on optimizing in my next jam. Lag - well that sucks!

Submitted(+1)

the trials are hard but i like it

Developer

Thanks, the last trial took me a good few goes, I nearly made things easier. But I think the challenge was needed. If i continue with the game I think I'll be adding a proper scoreboard too. Cheers!

Very fun runner! The menu splash and intro were also pretty cool :)

Developer

Thank you, so glad you had fun :) that's what matters in the end!

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the graphical style although it tended to have a lot of lag spikes which made it difficult to progress. Not sure if that was just cause of it being a browser game or what. Nice job though!

Developer

Ah, thats's a shame. I know the first time some of the Fx happen it can cause a spike, but once they are cached it should hopefully play smooth. Thanks for your positive feedback :) appreciated & good luck :)

This was a lot of fun to play! I am very impressed with the amount that has been achieved in just one week.

Developer

Thank you, I'm still catching up on sleep! :)

hahah Kalm before the S.T.O.R.M

now I want to make runner like this.... great music and sfx tho. gameplay is nice but.... "1" for shoot?

Developer(+1)

Haha, yeah I would have liked to put input mapping options in. I guess I'm used to having my thumb on the space bar and fingers on the numbers from an old game I used to play! Thanks for playing :D

Submitted(+1)

Nice intro title art and fun runner game, nice job!

Developer

Thanks, Charles! :)
