That was pretty fun. Most of it was learning to quickly navigate the UI. After a while, it felt like arcane magic key-sequences.
OMG, my new items go to the bottom of the long inventory list. I know you did that on purpose. Just like the upside down volume control.
Played this a little too much...but I did make the dew lit tea! Hah! Was fun and little addictive. Goes to show that fun can be found in very simple things. Good job Grumpy!
I like the quirky tone of this one, and the sound design, visuals and writing all work well together. Duality of meaning was a fun angle for the theme.
Gameplay is pretty fun, but I never beat it. I know with these types of games you're supposed to be at the mercy of the RNG, and some runs are gonna be rougher than others.
But for several I never found the knife, or got surrounded by Slimes with no-where to run. After 7 goes I threw in the towel.
I could have tried more but the interface was just too clunky for me. Seems to be a stylistic choice based on the other reviews but I couldn't get on with it. More than anything, I just really wanted a toggle map key.
Loved the retro vibe and f/pun. Made me feel young again.
Really cute retro game! It took me a second to figure how to navigate with the controls, but I got used to it fast. It felt like I could just bulldoze enemies pretty quickly, so some item variety and combat variety could really spice this up. Overally great job!
5 stars for the theme, loved the pun!
Controls are too cumbersome for me, slows game play down too much. Other than that I liked it very much.
Very retro! I love the art style.
Very fun to traverse the dungeon and I loved the inventory system!
This game felt very complete! Having the compass be a upgrade is a interesting Idea. The left and right arrows being for rotate was a little hard to understand at first.
After exploring the entire map and making the tea, I had a ton of "koettbulle" left. Took me 20 minutes to complete the game and was quite fun !
Charming and 'proper retro' from someone who obviously knows what games were like when games wer games :D Puns increase scores, as far as I'm concerned, so you win.
It took a while to get used to the controls but ultimately I won the game! Didn't like the item clutter in the inventory and wished for more enemy variety. Became very easy very fast. Simply, wasn't for me.
I too love your minimalistic approach, I had a lot of fun with your game! I got strong Apple ][ vibes, I would love to play this on a retro computer.
Loving the simplicity! I invented a new term to accompany the already existing KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), mine is Keep It Even Simpler U Silly = KIESUS (pronounced key-eh-soosh) and the meaning would be what you've done with this game. Really nice!
At first we were afraid that we would not be able to orient ourselves. But it turned out to be easier than it looks. Great game, addictive.
I squeezed the dew onto the lit tea!
Thank you for supporting linux.
I enjoyed the simple art style, the controls took a little while to get used, but once I did it was easy.
The game was a little bit too easy, but maybe I just had good luck finding hats and knives.
Echoing other posters, love the minimalism; keeping the walls fixed while redrawing the doors to show movement is simple but really effective.
Having the map was essential (found this with my own game which is also minimalistic), and it was nicely implemented. Controls were fine, although hotkeys for 'ground', 'inventory' etc. would be handy.
Re the theme, do you have a license for that pun!? ;-)
I absolutely adore the simplicity of this game!
It’s a little awkward to switch between modes but once you get used to it, you’re used to it!
Also, have you been starving your pet blobs? They keep eating me!
Pretty fun game overall! its UI is simple and focuses on the action at hand, Its simplicity really makes the absurd interpretation of the theme shine and makes the game a lot more fun! The only gripe i have with the game is that the control scheme feels like it takes too many key presses to do simple tasks(for example using space to get out of navigation mode then navigating to map mode just to view the map instead of having a single key shortcut such as the m key).
If you think THIS game has klunky controls, I invite you to look at some of my OTHER games, which make this one look streamlined by comparison!
It was an attempt to have a "simplified" interface using a limited set of keys: Arrows, Space, Enter, Tab, and Esc, with the goal to also map to a game controller D-Pad, Space/Green, Esc/Red, Enter/Blue, Tab/Yellow.
Also, map was literally a last hour addition, and I put it in a place where I was most confident I could finish it within the time left.
Well to be fair to you, this game is probably the best use of visual basic have seen to date xd
I made Dew a Lit Tea!
I quickly found a hat which allowed me not to die until I also find a first knife, from then I started to stockpile koettbulles.
I like your games, they feel exactly like those games you were happy to stumble upon while browsing shareware CDs.
