It is a good game. I would like to see it in physical or in AR.

Thanks for playing!

Fun little card game with some unique mechanics. I lost my first match but made it all the way to the end on my second try. Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you managed to beat the game!

This is a quite well made tile laying game !
To be honest, this could even work as a physical boardgame I think.

The scaling mechanic is the hardest to grasp as it was not clear that you will just eat enemies that you engulf after scaling up. It's also not clear what you will scale into, do you get an upgrade? Does your dragon heal?

After figuring that out the game plays very smoothly.
I'm not sure tying the amount of energy to the number of tiles you occupy is a good design. Once you are losing there is no way to fight back and you are just playing cards until the game over screen without a chance.

I do like the fight for occupying more tiles than your opponent so you could give some bonus for that, but the mana should maybe just work like in Hearthstone where you get +1 every turn. Maybe a bit slower in this game since all cards are so cheap.

Overall great job !!

Thanks a lot for playing and leaving feedback!

You're right that one player can easily snowball by controlling entire board, that's a big issue with current design. Right now, I think it would be better if there was some constant energy gain + bonus energy for capturing specific tiles, but it's too late to fix the jam version. 😅 Still, I hope I'll design better games in the future.

Very clever take on the theme and awesome card game :) I had some issues with the scale of the window at the beginning (in Chrome Browser) but is was solved by setting the game to full screen. Awesome job! Thanks for sharing it

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the game.

Cool game!  I had a few glitchy issues like sometimes it would say I played a card that turn already when I had not (1st move and such).  I'm not sure if I read this right, but it seemed like you click on the icon in the upper-left corner of the card to move it, and the upper-right to scale it.  I was not able to scale any of the cards.  I clicked and it grew & shrank as if to confirm the scaling, but not sure what actually does it.  I think the introduction pointing out these details would be useful, but it didn't take me long to figure it out.  I'm trying it out at the moment on an old laptop which is not full HD, and I had to scale the browser out a bit to fit to the screen.  I could see that possibly messing with the mouse position, but moving the cards worked, so not sure on that one.

Developer

Thanks for playing! You're absolutely right, I really had to spend more effort into teaching the game mechanics properly, especially because some of them aren't obvious. I hope I will learn my lesson for future games.

Interesting consept. Needs a few tries to figure outScaling mechanic but this is what makes it interesting

Would be cool if I could reset the last fight instead of restarting from begining

Thanks for playing! 😊

This one is awesome! Really fun game with a unique concept! Also, even though the handdrawn art looks a bit weird it really blends in well in the overall looks! Really well made, great job! :)

Nice game! I’ve seen a few card games in this jam, I think I like the way you incorporated the theme into yours the best so far. Congrats!

This is really impressive for a jam, feels like this could be turned into a full card game! Nicely done.

Well done on creating a card game like this. This is the kind of game I really struggle with. I liked that you added a story to the progression.

It's really a good game! I took my time understanding the mechanics, but once you realize them, it's very enjoyable.

I would love to play a final version soon!

Very neat combination of card game and tile game. Being able to both play and move cards around the playfield with the allotted energy was interesting enough in its own right - having the cards scale up and down on top of that was really cool.

Something else that I think you did really well was all the smaller quality-of-life stuff, like snapping the tiles into place, visualizing the lines of attack, etc. I think the visuals and audio could be a bit better, but they get the job done, and the core gameplay isn't made any worse for it. Well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! Glad you found some ideas interesting.

Initially I didn't implement visualizing the lines of attack, but then even I couldn't understand what was going on in game. 😁

Hello! I played your game like on stream today, thought you might like to see my like reaction and comments! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1995856524?t=0h32m1s

I really liked the game, just felt like there could be a little more balance, but I understand that that takes a lot of time. You can hear more about that in the video!

Developer

Thanks for playing and streaming! That was humbling to watch. 😅

I really should have done a better job making an interactive tutorial, making the rules of the game more transparent and easier to learn. Right now, most rules are in dialogue text, but there is no way to make sure the player actually read them and understood them.

As for the glitch with card rotation, I think it has something to do with the web build so I just couldn't fix it for now... I can leave only the downloadable build, but then fewer people would play the game so I decided to keep the glitched version, too.

Thanks for your feedback! I hope this game will serve as a good lesson for me so my future games will be more polished and balanced.

a very fun game with some interesting gameplay! i enjoyed how challenging it was, but i do think without an option to return to the opponent you were facing, it's a bit too punishing. i made it to the ace of dragons in a few tries only to be decimated haha -- my only other note is that it took me a while to figure out how to scale my cards, since i thought clicking on them would play them again. making this a bit more clear in the instructions would have been helpful. overall, the game has a great concept that's well thought out!

Thanks a lot for playing and leaving feedback!

Initially, I wanted to add random opponents and permadeath, but ended up with same opponents and even the same card setup. I should have thought about adding the possibility to save/load back then, but didn't... It's a shame but hopefully that will serve as a lesson for my future projects.

I just love the idea of dragons settling all their disputes through the medium of playing cards.

I like the take on the theme and I'm a sucker for card games. This one did seem a tad too difficult and it creates a cycle of losing since the resources you get depends on how many spots on the board you have. So if you start losing then you will likely stay losing. Not necessarily a bad thing but it does take awhile to figure out what you are doing so that helps to ensure that the first game you play will not be all that fun. That said, a lot of great ideas here and once you start to get a hang of the mechanics it can become pretty fun.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback!

I agree that the game turned out a bit too punishing and it doesn't really allow player to fall behind. I'll do my best to learn my lesson and design more balanced games in the future.
