Loved this! Was a fun well put together experience. I found the slimes a little easy to kill but other wise mechanics were good.

There is a tiny bug if you go back to the job baord once the boss has spawned it glitches in and out when you press E otherwise fautless and fun!

Developer

Thanks Dmented! Yeah, that bugged popped up near the end since I didn't get time to tell the trigger of the event "It happened, it's good, forget about it now" :P

Developer(+1)

Job Board bug is fixed. Thanks :D.

Great art and animation was cohesive and good and the boss was really cool and dynamic. The story elements were good but as as you could move at the same time kind of slowed things down and obstructed the view. Perhaps on a timer for the texts progression? or camera zoom or move to make it less obstructive to the player sprite.

I enjoyed exploring the large map and there were really nice tiles and trees bushes etc. A little more direction to the slimes you were hunting would have helped but I can see this would be a double edged sword as you want people to explore.

All in all I rated very highly as had an impressive depth :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks Rico! I'll add the feedback to my list. I'm making this into a full game, and actually combining it with a close "other" game idea.

Really awesome work!  You nailed the retro feel.  Having some of the enemies be evil ghosts is a nice twist. I didn't realize it initially until I noticed I took damage in those scenarios.  So much "juice" added here for sound effects and hit feedback.  One bug I found is when you beat the game and go back to the job board and press "E" it just flickers.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, that happened 10 minutes before I went to submit. The event trigger for completing the other events kicked in but I forgot to let that roll over and readjust the bool after to allow for access to open again. Though even the flicker, it will still refill your HP full. Thanks for the feedback and glad you liked it.

Job Board bug is fixed. Thanks :D.

really good work! voice over makes every game so much better :)  I also love the boss animations

Developer

Thank you so much!

Submitted(+1)

Really good pixel art and good mechanics! Love the voice over ^^

Developer

Thanks ArkticLittleWolf! I'll share the voice over comment to Christie who did Barbara's voice. I hope you had fun playing and thanks for making time to comment.

Straight up masterpiece. Animations were really fun, really impressed that you managed to make it all by yourself in 10 days.

Developer(+3)

Aw thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was REALLY smart with my time and how I used it. And lots of resource searching and getting lucky with nice tutorials fast without a lot of hunting through poor videos. And watching yotube tutorials at 2x speed helped a TON! I'm pumped for how I'm taking this into a full game scenario.  Here's a taste at some testing using the already art assets from this jam game, but into a 3D environment.

Submitted(+2)

Cool game! You did that in 10 days? Respect!

Developer

Yeah...I was lucky to have nothing crazy huge breaking the code/game.  Anything that started to go wrong, I either tried to fix it if it was necessary, or removed it just to get the project done.

The artwork was the easier part for me since I teach it and used to work on tv shows, films, and games as an artist/animator. And slimes are super fun, loose, and fast to animate, keeping the shapes simple. It was a LOT of fun. I hope you had fun playing it!

Submitted(+2)

I liked the atmosphere and the artwork. It was a nice touch that there was a boss fight at the end. Really great work!

Developer

Thanks! I was joking with other jammers on a "Slime Lord" and thought of the moveset idea Thursday. Then spent the last 2 days creating the boss before submission day because I wanted a nice "closure" feel to the Gamejam Game. Glad you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

A short and enjoyable game. It was a bit too easy for me and wish there were some enemy variations and a mini map. But given the short time frame, it is impressive that you were able to create this. Great work.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Those are all points I had to cut back on with my scope. I'm already starting this into a bigger "full" game and plan on having those elements in...and a 3D world!

Submitted(+1)

Sounds great. Good luck with that.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

Quite an adventure! Loved the graphics and the ambiance. I found it a little easy, but we don't have so much time that we can balance our games (mine is too hard...). Thanks for entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the play. I left it a bit easier for the average player for the jam. Full game I want to ramp the difficulty up more for sure. Hope you had fun at least.

Submitted(+1)

nice game, i enjoyed it, you could add more challenge levels or make the boss harder to beat

Developer(+1)

Originally he had like triple health and did more damage, dropped more poison meat at the health points, but I was reminded that it's better to tone it down for the average person playing in a Game Jam sense. So as I am now building this into a bigger game, I'll be going to some tougher feels for sure.

Submitted(+2)

Great game and amazing you made all the assets yourself! I especially loved the sound effect when you stepped in the green goop.

Developer(+1)

AHAHAHA! Thanks. Christie did awesome with the voicework. The rest of the sound effects was me messing around squishing my puffed up cheeks and such. The assets were a blast! I learned so much of using Aseprite.

Submitted(+2)

Great job on making that one ! Very coherent in all aspects, the voice sound effects gives it a great humour touch !

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I hope you found it fun :D.

Submitted(+2)

Congrats on completing the jam! I am definitely impressed with the scope for a game jam, especially since you did all of your own assets.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! It was a journey over the past 10 days. And I found out we have a mutual friends. She sent me the link to your game before I knew it was a part of this contest as well and saw it on my "random" feed. Good job on yours as well.

And yeah, the scope was large and I'm impressed nothing completely broke. It allowed me to get it done on time...ahahahhaa.

Submitted(+1)

Ha, small world!

Submitted(+2)

Realy nice game, gratz.. Loved the SFX and dub... I would only suggest to be able to use itens by number hotkeys, 1,2,3,4...

Congratz. Play my game if you can :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Someone else JUST told me the same thing. I'm starting to look at building a full game based on this "MVP". So I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Thanks! :D

Submitted(+2)

big scope for a jam game, but I was impressed by what you were able to include. The boss was cool and the music /sfx were very well done. Usually when someone builds a pseudo rpg for a jam, you end up with a glorified walking simulator. So nice job on getting the content you put in to a finished state. I do wish there was a mini map, or UI icons to help me know where to go. When I spawned the boss, I had no idea where to find it, and the map is pretty big to just walk around. I also had the quest board bug out after I got the boss, so i couldn't read the quest for it. dunno if I missed out on some cool flavor text there.

Developer(+1)

Thanks Maya! Definitely a big scope and it was the smallest of all my ideas. Yeah, the bug I noticed near the submission time since the boss was the last thing I implimented and his event kinda locks out. You didn't miss any flavour in the game. I have like 4 lines recorded from Christie that I wanted to have play after. I totally get the issue with the boss, and I was worried about it. I originally had him pathing throughout the whole map, but toned it down last minute to up and down the main road so at least if you were close to the road, the 3D sound would help guide people better since I never learned how to do a minimap. And the cursor pointer was being an issue to code. But the feedback is noted and added to my list. HUGE thank you for taking the time to comment. I hope you had fun and enjoyed it!

Developer

Job Board bug is fixed. Thanks :D.

Submitted(+2)

Nice job! It seems like you put a lot of work into this game and it shows!

Developer

Thank you very much! I worked really hard for sure. Definitely overscoped some, thinking "Aw, 10 days? It shouldn't be that bad." :P. Though I cut a LOT. With my brainstorming, it was definitely my smallest scope concept. AHAHAHA! I hope you had fun playing it and thanks for making time to comment!

Submitted(+1)

I had fun, but didn't understand the connection with the jam theme...

Nevertheless, keep up the good work! :)

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

Glad you had fun. I tried going for a hunter vibe of the death of some helping be a support (or beginning) to others. I had that in the dialog to try to make it more apparent. But that is my bad for not communicating that as well as I could have.  I also had a few more lines recorded but didn't have time to put in place that helped support it more in the later game. But that's, again, something from me overscoping.

Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Ooooh, now I get it! You know, reading is hard... sry kkkkk And my game has a similar approach to the theme! My bad!

I liked the gameplay and the sounds were very funny!

I know it's a jam game, but if you keep working on it, I would like to see an "objective pointer". Someone on the comments said that he/she felt a little lost. Maybe an arrow pointing to the zone where the hunted monster spawns would solve that issue!

Developer(+1)

Oh no worries. without that little bit, I totally get it. And I am learning more that it's better to avoid written stuff in jam games because they OFTEN get overlooked. So I need to simplify my ideas more and scope down WAY more.

Glad you liked the gameplay and enjoyed the sounds. I had fun making squiching noises with my cheeks for the slimes.

I'm working on flushing it out more, and adding more landmarkers in the world and making things less far off to get to (probably) on the full game production that I'm already looking at. I want the player to really have fun deducing and finding clues (and me making time to leave clues) to help guide the player more on where to go 100%. I am lovin all the feedback.

Submitted(+2)

Good job on finishing the game!

Developer

Oh thanks! I had to cut so much stuff like volume control, etc just to meet the deadline...ahahaha. Good job on you as well!
