Awesome game! Really nice puzzles and fits the theme well. I really liked the mechanic of being able to change characters
One small thing tho, the movement was bit counter intuitive sometimes. Since A and D seems to be angle adjustments based on the characters forward directions. If the character was facing "down" having to press D to face left seemed a bit weird. Personally in a puzzle game, I prefer movement that are more simple "up down left right" type movement (So I could focus on the puzzle, not the movement). But again, that might just be my preference.
Overall really cool game!
Great puzzle game. I did not have the time to play through all levels, just reached the first one where you encounter lava. After first having some problems with the controls it played very well after I found the camera perspective change. I would have preferred either wall getting see-through when behind them or the ability to turn the camera by holding the right mouse button.
I think the three different "persons" are a nice touch for the game. Great work.
Things I liked:
-Fun puzzle game! I love puzzle games and this one was well thought out and super cool as small mechanics were introduced to think about how they could interreact with each other and create so many unique puzzles!
-smooth transitions from character to character to make switching and exploring not feel punishing but something I enjoyed doing
-glad you had a menu you could view controls in game that were easy to find and understand
Things to improve:
-you already noted the bug about how they can climb on each other. I accidentally left the map because of this bug.
-Would love some artwork on those main characters and some more SFX to make them unique. Maybe including some hints that the red one can go in the fire, blue can go in the steam, and green can drop a bone
-introducing the bone mechanic more clearly. I read the controls before so I was aware, but I am sure someone would have difficulty with it
Overall:
Super fun puzzle game that I would love to see more of and play again! I even showed some friends this because I thought it was so cool! Good work!
The puzzles and character dynamics in this game are surprisingly well thought out. I found myself genuinely engaged in this entry.
I think the biggest issue I have with the current version is with the tank controls and… well, controls in general. I feel like the bone-to-plate mechanic was not introduced well and when I took the hint after some time, I was just frustrated.
When you introduced fire, the characters really started to feel distinct and I understood what you were really going for. The puzzles began to flow a lot better and solving them was satisfying.
I think I would recommend getting an artist on board and putting together a brief commercial game out of this– this isn’t just a little tech demo or test, it’s a full blown minimum viable product. Congrats!
Great job! I really enjoyed myself and I thought that the puzzles were really well designed. You took an interesting twist on the traditional puzzles and escape rooms and made it so that the player had to control three different mummies, each with varying sizes and abilities. The music fit the theme of mummies and ancient Egypt really well, it was a great accompaniment to the game.
The pivoting with A and D threw me off a bit, I was expecting WASD to be forward, left, backward, and right, respectively. I also think that it would be easier if the player could use their mouse to move the camera around, instead of having only two camera views, forward and top. In addition, I think actual mummy models would fit the artistic style a bit better. I really liked the "maps" (for lack of a better word) and I feel like the colored cubes didn't quite fit in. But those are just minor adjustments.
I think that connection with the theme "Death is only the beginning" was a little far-fetched. I get that the story kind of covers it, with the mummies getting revived, but I think that it would've been better if the gameplay incorporated the theme a bit more. Perhaps one continuous map, with the ending points "killing" the mummies again, making them respawn at the beginning, and adding a new section of the map unlocked and more puzzles for the player to complete.
That's just my take on the game. I had a lot of fun playing this. Overall, really well done!
Hi, Cowland, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
First of all I really liked your idea of having to kill the mummies and make them respawn in the beginning of the level.. I will think more about it and try to improve on this idea if I ever decide to create a complete game of this project in the future :)
About the camera.. I'm actually pretty bad at doing cameras... It took me 1 day of the project just to implement a 3D follow camera, but It just broke several think about the mummies movement and more hehe... But I will for sure create an improved camera style if I make a complete game out of this project :)
About the tank movement style. Several people mentioned this problem, I will add a second option of movement still for this jam project. Maybe on 1.3 or 1.4 :)
Nice puzzles! :)
But somehow couldn't pass a level ( the one with the stream of lava) maybe because is missing a platform?
Hi, ArkticLittleWolf, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
About the puzzle. You need to open the door by lighting the torch using the red mummy... Then using the blue mummy to run through the steam of vapor then by all the streams of fire.
Use the blue mummy to press the pressure plate, and then use the green mummy to break the pressure plating using his bone (E).
Then just get each mummy to the finish like :)
I thought the puzzles were really well designed. Nice Job.
Hi, Max Frymark, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
I didn't get to apologize :(
Fun
The unique puzzle elements were very neat and a lot can be done with them. Unfortunately I struggled with the movement so much I wasn't fully able to focus on the rest of the game.
Aesthetics
Some cubes move around a desert ruin. The ruin itself looks nice, but the cubes seem like placeholders.
Music
The music was nice. It was very well done. Fit the game and sounded professional.
Sound
Sound was also great! I liked the grinding door sounds. Top marks.
Mechanics
It felt weird that the characters didn't strafe with AD, and instead turned on point. This movement system feels like it would be better for cars than a player character. Also deceleration felt low, making the cubes slide around like they were on ice.
Story
You are some mummies that need to help out a pharaoh. Not really explained in depth, but prsent.
Theme
This is more of a character swap puzzler with "they are mummies" slapped on top. It meets the theme, but the mechanics aren't unique. I would have liked to see actual character death be present in some way rather than just calling them undead and calling it a day.
Hi, Nabla, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
About the movement. Im aware that 'tank style' is a bit difficult for several people, so I will add a more common movement style on a future update.
About the cubes looking like placeholders.. In my opinion all textures in my game looks like placeholders haha.. Unfortunately I didn't get the time do do some good texture, and I also didnt look for an artist partner for this project.. Im thinking about partnering with some artists for next Jams :)
I didn't notice that the cube feels like on ice while decelerating.. That's an easy fix, will fix it for 1.3
About the story, I actually really like to write some deep stories, but since this project was for a game jam I think people prefer to play then actually read xD Also I was with that Tiktok trend in my head by the time of the jam "Excuse me! Mommy? Sorry! Mommy? Sorry!" so I had to insert it in the game like a joke, but I dont think anyone noticed that haha
About the theme. I actually had some extra unique mechanics that fits more a Mummy stile but are a bit more complicated to implement and I didn't get the time.. Like pullling things with theirs gauzes.. Or using a limited amount of gauze to burn at each level and make flames go to point A to B, like a bomb wick... I'm planning to use those if I make a complete game of this project in the future :)
Great game Like the puzzles hard but simple at the same time good job
Hi, kapo.dev, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
I always have admiration for people who make puzzle games. designing them is hard, yet you managed to make some very creative ones.
Hi, Black Boar, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
Good job on the game. I think turning down the rotation speed will make this more fun. It's a little tough to control. But well done! Be proud.
Hi, Brohmyr, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
Other people said the same thing about rotation speed.. I will fix it in 1.2.
Interesting game, I enjoyed the mechanics and the puzzles, although they stayed a bit too simple for too long for my tastes, I just personally like a bit more of a challenge. But you have a great foundation to build upon, great work! My only gripe is that the movement is based on the rotation of the mummy object instead of the orientation of the camera.
Hi, Eacaw, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
Ive to agree.. The puzzles ware kinda simple.. But at the same time I dont wanted to make the game to long for a jam... So the first 5~6 levels whare basically tutorials.. And 7~8 you actualy needs to think a little more.
Im planing to add a few extra levels soon. They will be harder for sure :) 'True puzzles'
Pretty fun game. I managed to clear some levels and had fun bugging out of the map too. XD
I think level 2 and level 3 should be swapped, since in level 3 we are taught how pressure plates work, but in level 2 it's just there without a tutorial. It took me a while to make it work and that's why I decided to go out of the map and try beating the level like that. I managed to place Green and Blue, but Red wouldn't climb out of the walls. XD
The controls were a bit difficult to use. Instead of rotating the characters, I think it would work better to have the arrows directly move them north, south, west and east. At least it would help for easier navigation.
Good game.
Hi, David, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
Haha yes. Good point level 2 and 3 should be sweped.. Ive created all 8 levels in a hurry a few hours before the deadline. I will fix it in the 1.2 update. Thanks for the insight :)
About the movement. My code is a bit espagueti.. It will take me some days to fix it all. At the momment I dont now how long it would take me to add a second moviment option. But I will certainly try for a future update
It is fun to play, relaxing music and the great things is - difficult increase smoothly through the game process.
Here are few things i think can improve:
Make environment transparency when character moving along them, sometimes i hard to see character.
Menu and hint can be ways of presenting more clearly to player. Sometimes, i forget what keys to use, and cannot find in-game and need to restart.
Movement. I feel little difficult to control. Maybe config the character camera to more natural and make the character turning more smooth?
Hi, td6542ad, thank for so much for your feedback. :)
About the camera. I released an update 1.1 this morning that added a second camera to better localization on the scenery.
I dont know at the moment how to make objects invisible when in from of the camera.. But I will maybe add it in a later update in case the second camera is not enough.
About the menu that show/hides all keys.. In 1.2 I will make it hides all keys except for the Z key (Key that show/hides all keys)
About the movement. Several people said the same thing. I will make the turn a little smother, and maybe add a slider ingame to change the sensibility manually for each player.
Great puzzle game!!! But I have a few suggestions:
1. Mamost gave make the movement easier, it was very difficult to control it.
2. Add a tutorial, I almost gave up on the second level, and was stumped at fourth level.
3. If you want to keep the movement as it is, then make the camera rotate with the player, like a third-person game.
4. A few solution to your collider problem is to make a custom character controller or switch to a rigidbody controller.
Hi, ricjj777, thank for so much for your feedback. :) About your suggestions:
1: Ive release this morning 1.1 update. Ive upgrade several things including movement, camera and much more.
2: The 4th level I agree its kinda hard. But if you press the H key you will get a hint in every level.. Im thinking of making the hints start on at the beggining of the level then making it fade away after a few seconds... I think people are not using the hints xD
2.1: Still talking about your 2th suggestion, can you describe what you think was hard in the game? I really wanted to make the game harder, but since its a game jam and people are in a rush to play several games, Ive created each level more introducing a new puzzle solver mechanique then actualy doing an hard puzzle.... But if I create an oficial game from this in the future, I will sure do some harder level in the late game.
3. In 'Sorry Mummy' it was the first time I tried to do a different camera style in my games.. And actually I'm still pretty bad to create cameras. I tried to make a follow/3d Rotating camera, but I have just wasted 4h of work and almost broke the project xD Take a look at the 1.1 update Ive release today, see if you like the new moviment/camera stile... (I still want to improve the camera in future updates)
4. Thank you for your suggestion. I will try to fix it for 1.2 :)
Thanks for taking my suggestions, and I hope your game does well!!! Also, the thing I found hard is moving the mummies, especially when they're behind a wall. I will check out tour game now.
Awesome puzzle game! Great effort considering that this is a 3D game developed in just 10 days. Is there a way to manually rotate the camera in your game?
Hi, ricjj777, thank for so much for your feedback. :) In 'Sorry Mummy' it was the first time I tried to do a different camera style in my games..
And actually I'm still pretty bad to do cameras. I tried to make a follow/3d Rotating camera, but I have just wasted 4h of work and almost broke the project xD
But I have some good news.. Ive released 1.1 today morning with several improvements. Including an Over View camera that can be activated/deactivated by pressing Space Bar or Left Mouse Button
In case that you have the time please check the update :)
I will drop 1.2 tomorrow with even more fixes and improvements.
Absolutely loved it. Wanted to play it again and again. Finished it twice. You put in a lot of effort into it. Everything spot on.
Hi HamzaMcKhan, I'm really glad you liked it. I released an update 1.1 this morning with several improvements. In case that you have the time and want to check out what Ive improved :D
I will drop 1.2 tomorrow with more fixes and improvements.
i think collisions might be bugged?
Hi. Thanks for your feedback :)
Yes, there are some collision issues, especially between the 3 mummies.
I know the reason but don't know how to fix it.
It started after I implement the Character Controller component. It uses a capsule collision, instead of a box collider.
The moment I put this component all the mummies started climbing one on top of each other
This is bad because It can break some puzzles (jumping wall to skip puzzles)
But that had a good side too. After I saw one mummy climb on top of the other I thought of a new puzzle idea.
At this momment the tallest mummy is the only one that can activate high levers in some levels of the game... When I saw the small mummy managing to climb on the fat mummy, I thought that the would be nice to make the small mummy be able to pull levers too while on top of the fat mummy.
I think about implementing this as a possible puzzle solver, but first I need to fix these collision bugs between all the mummies. Basically I need to turn off the Character Controller's capsule collider, then set a new box collider, but I couldn't figure out how to turn the capsule collider off yet.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nice puzzle game. Interesting that you combined three themes into one project. Keep up the good work!
Hi. Thanks for your feedback :)
It was really difficult to combine the 3 ideas at the start.. I had to think for a few hours until something came to mind.
The main problem was combining the "Three man duel + Multiple Control". It seems impossible at the first hours of thinking... But then I thought something like "And if instead of the '3 men' having to duel each other, they have to duel against puzzles?" ... Then the rest was easy :)
Yeah, you bet!
