Very fun game. For some reason I found the music really funny!

10/10 would look at the moles again

Nice job! I wasn't sure what to do with the fortune teller or whatever in the last stand, but got that guy his teddy bear, so i feel pretty good about myself today.

Developer

So glad you did that! For now that's the only winning ending, I'm considering to improve it in the future where the 3rd stand might come into play. Thanks so much for playing!

Nice idea, and interesting story, though the control are a bit clunky.

My main complaint is that the visuals not matching the text (like in the ducks, stand, the image has eggs, and way too many for the given options) makes it a bit diffcult to know which is the correct option to pick

Interesting intepretation of theme!

This was a fun one with a neat story! and i definitely wasn't trying to click the teddy bear with the mouse for a few minutes

Very entertaining! I got the teddy bear ending, but couldn't figure out the animatronic and the weird thing in cabinet 2

Submitted(+1)

My little kiddo has a one-eyed bear and would be just as happy if someone gave it back to her! Haha. A nice little moment of fun and happiness!

Submitted(+1)

It is really good unusual representation of the theme, which I admire! Good job!

Nice text based game! I’m curious about the cabinet but couldn’t figure out what’s weird there. Pretty nice execution. Had fun playing it.

Pretty nice text based adventure game! I shot the teddy at the first stand and I got kicked out (oops XD).  Eventually I did get the one-eyed teddy & got the good ending.

Great job! Would love to see extra illustrations/images for each scene if you're going to continue this. Also perhaps mouse based interaction would be better instead of pressing 1-5 (it's not consistent enough, sometimes there's moments where you need to press space & there's moments where you need to press 1 like at the end of wack-a-mole).

Would love to see this get polished & fleshed out a bit more, Cheers ✨!

I'm curious about this part, I think you might be on to something.

Do you think it should always have one option and should press 1 whenever there's no other option but to continue?

Also, I think the click support may help improve it along with those and other things I have in mind - thanks for your feedback!

Submitted

It does depend on if you're planning to implement mouse support or not, If you are I think it's fine to ditch the keyboard controls & just let everything be clickable using the mouse.

If you still want to use the keyboard controls, maybe try implementing so the options can be selected using arrow keys (imagine a menu system on game consoles). I think it would be less clunky than having to use the number keys!

For options that only has a single option or no option at all, any click/button press should just continue to the next screen.

These are just my suggestions though, feel free to experiment with what you feel is right ;)

Nice execution of a text adventure that worked well, glad I got to reunite someone with their teddy

Actually really cool! great interpretation of the theme of trying to find out what's up with the mysterious last stand. The way more and more things start getting mysterious as you progress makes it feel like you are exploring some secret the park is trying to hide from you. Great entry, I could definitely see myself playing a bigger game exploring such vibes

Good short text adventure game you made. Reminded me of the super old ones that didnt even have pics just text. Although light on art you made up for that with your story. Maybe some sound effects for winning prizes and shooting and whacking moles would have been nice however thats only if you werent trying to keep it old bare bones text adventure style :)

Probably the best I'll ever do at any version of whack-a-mole!

Fun writing! I couldn't figure out what to do with the third (last) stand, if anything. I wanted to wish I was big.

There is a winning ending that isn't as elaborate and using all the elements in the game as I would like but we ran out of time. In case you ever have a moment again, you can see if you can try and find it. If you find it, it should just say that you won the game. I am also curious about any other feedback you may have in general.

I am also currently considering improvements for us to possibly provide in a post-jam version of the game, some of which we already have in mind. Would you be interested in playing such a version which has such improvements?

Submitted

Oh, I did get the ending! I got the good ending of reuniting the strange man and his one-eyed bear friend. And I got the bad ending of being kicked out of the carnival for shooting bears instead of ducks.

I think everything works quite well for a text based adventure, so I don't have a lot of useful feedback to give. For something like this, all I can recommend is 'more content' which is asking a lot in a ten day game jam. :) I suppose if you implemented point-and-click for the options rather than relying on keyboard controls it would improve accessibility.

If you add something to do at the third stall I'd be happy to try it out!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! Yes those are the only ones for now, and I am already considering improvements regarding that. Some of those you pointed out like the point and click for accessibility in some way are also really important too and may be in consideration as well. If we get it to a point where something at least happens with the 3rd stall, or somehow even....more than that, I'm thinking you may be interested in such a version. Thanks for your feedback!

I should've seen it coming but "It's the last stand!" got a good laugh out of me, haha!

Great job, very nicely done! :)

Fun game that is surprisingly deep compared to my first impression! Pretty simple dialogue based adventure, and would be even cooler with carnival mini games maybe in the future! Well done!

Fun little game. It reminds me of something from my youth, I just can't put my finger on what. Good work!

Submitted(+1)

I think your game does not like my keyboard as it do not recognise my number press. Nothing happened when I pressed 1, 2 or 3. I'm on a MacBook Pro with AZERTY layout :) I'd love to test the game further than the welcome screen!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

whoa, that's unfortunate.
I would like to reproduce it, so could you please specify the exact type of azerty you're using. Is it french, arabic ore something else? ( System prefences -> keyboard -> input sources).

Also, assuming you're using multiple layouts/languages, does it work when you switch keyboard layout to english?

Submitted

Yes it finally worked when I switched to US layout. I got stuck at the last stand (the stand #2 with the moles ^^)

Submitted(+1)

Fired over a teddybear and I had to leave the Carnival!  The moles were really fun!!  I didn't finish it, but it was really fun.  Good work!!

I like the twist that everything is text-based, reminds me of old games :D
