Wow, I'm impressed with the potential of this mechanic! At first I was skeptical about what the challenge was, but then y'all made the puzzle potential very clear once I reached the first level where choice mattered. Really liked the musical touch too!

My only feedback is on art consistency. I think each element individually looks incredibly nice (especially the background silhouette), but they have different styles. For example, the dwarves are lineless flat-color, but the wood has lines and the rocks have grainy texture.

In any case, it was fun!

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our game, we’re glad you appreciated it!

There is definitely a spike in the difficulty curve when you reach level 6, haha.

I get what you mean about the art style, maybe we’re just JOINING TOGETHER several art styles ;)

Great game! I loved how the instrument for each dwarf layered not only when you collect them but when you're in proximity of them - super smooth!

Nice work on a fantastic submission : )

Developer

Thank you! Glad you noticed it’s not just on pickup but also in proximity of the dwarf!

Really well polished game. I liekd the idea of not jumping, but still making it platformer. Good job.

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed our game!

Nice game, played it all the way through :) You left some really good feedback on my game so let me try to do the same for you:

  • I think the sound that plays when you hover over a menu item is really harsh, and doesn't seem to be affected by the volume slider
  • The gravity mechanic isn't explained in an easy situation before it's thrown at you in a potentially difficult one, although I tend to make things too easy, so your mileage may vary
  • A level select with all levels already unlocked could be a cheap way to let people see the rest of your game if they get stuck
  • Scene transitions would probably elevate the already-good art to even higher levels

Very polished game, so most of the above are nitpicks, but I wanted to return the feedback favor!

Developer

Thank you for your detailed review! And congrats on gettin to the end, it can be a bit of a challenge at times.

Yes, all the UI sound effects wew supposed to have their own volume slider but call it oversight, call it time constraints, it didn’t make it to the final game.

We tried to teach the gravity mechanic in the first level that introduce the jump pads, we gather your dwarves and the platform is lower and lower to get the next dwarf, showing you that you jump less and less high. We did have a tutorial text for it bu discarded it because we thought that the level design was enough.... Guess it wasn’t, haha

Totally agree on the level select and scene transitions, it’s the kind of thing we’ll keep in mind for our next jam!

This was fun, and put a smile on my face. The core mechanic is fun, the visuals and sound are charming. The evolving music track was an especially nice touch. Movement and platforming felt fluid.

The level design was a bit cruel, but the inclusion of the Restart button alleviates this issue. The precision platforming felt organic rather than frustrating.

Bonus points for dwarves.

I want to say this is easily Top 100 material, but with nearly 6,000 entries it's impossible to say with certainty.

Great job! ^_^

Thank you very much for taht sweet review! We’re very glad you enjoyed our little game and its graphics and music, we had a lot of fun doing it!

The difficulty curve might need some tweaks but it’s hard to get right in just 48h.

Let’s hope you’re right and we’re top 100 material, haha :D

Oh man this has some wickedly clever mechanics, love the transition to both puzzle and more precision-based platforming, it was really clever making it so any dwarf could activate the bounce pads made for some really interesting moments and challenges as you manage the orientation at times mid-flight. That as well as the number of dwarves affecting your overall weight and thus not bouncing as high, took me a second to understand, but, was quite a cool puzzle mechanic. Really enjoyed this one, great job!

Man the growing jaunty tune is just fantastic, it sounds phenomenal! The rest of the game also controlled really well, I was worried things might get a bit janky with the main stack/line swapping mechanic, but it never felt like I was cheated :)

The one thing that caused me a bit of confusion was the torches being hooked up to the doors, you teach it well and after the first time your eyes always see and immediately know what it is and done so it was never a bottleneck, it just felt a bit strange since the dwarf are jammin' out and barehanded extinguishing these bad boys hahah

I absolutely love seeing strong team entries, good job to everyone involved!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your review! We’re so glad you liked our little game!

Do you never extinguish a burning torch with your bare hand? Does it never opens door for you :D? I’m just fooling around, it’s just a case of "videogame logic" you just have to embrace!

Thank you again, your appreciation means a lot to us!

Talk about originality! A game about stacked dwarves xD. I had way more fun than I expected for a jam submission, it's an amazing result for just 48 hours of work, congrats man!

The only problem was the level everybody got stuck on (lvl 6), it takes away some of the fun, since it becomes frustrating. Difficulty growth must be a smooth curve, and I know this is something hard to achieve. Nearly all games I did, people complain about difficulty, I'm terible at making balanced difficulty.

EDIT: I managed to pass it! I had to jump on the platform with 3 dwarves, and with that momentum, I grabbed the 4th dwarf, then jumped with that "dwarf bridge" to salvation! And as I imagined, the level after that was much easier to pass (lvl 7), it didn't require much thinking, but more skill, which means the difficulty curve is a little unbalanced.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your nice comment!

There is definitely one level that’s a bit harder than the previous ones, it’s the first one (I think) where you need to think about the order in which you gather the dwarves. I agree that working a a smooth difficulty curve is especially challenging in such a short amount of time but we did our best!

Congrats on making it through the difficult level!
