Really well done, Scoot o! We enjoyed getting to discuss and review on stream; we’ll also leave a link to it here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1061287846.

Fun, that was intense with the swarm chasing you!! I liked the setting too :D
I love the mechanic of tossing the flame, it feels really good when you are close to death and then brought back to life! The swarm looks really cool and the instrumental music makes the player feel the urgency. Great stuff guys, be proud! :D
I really enjoyed the art the music! The gameplay was different than what I saw from other games in the jam which was a nice change of pace. I did run into some issues jumping (as in the collisions of the objects made it difficult), but other than that it was really nice.
Beautiful game! Nice concept, great idea for the theme :)
I have to give this one full score because it's simply amazing. Very nice art, great gameplay and very original in my opinion. The only critics (that didn't make the game worse for me at all) were the fact that the collision shapes of the floor sometimes made it tricky to jump, especially if you stand in front of a gap after respawning (huge thanks BTW for implementing checkpoints!) when it started lagging for a second or two. Overall really nice game, great idea, great implementation of the theme - very enjoyable game, good job!
It was simple and fun! Great work.
I really like the idea of the game, it allows for some interesting level design! I like that not only you have the pressure of the dark wall of clouds behind you but also that your character becomes smaller and smaller :-)
This is such a cute idea! The jumping from rock to rock was a little frustrating because of the little jump down making it so you couldn't jump, but other then that it is very easy to play and gives you a sense of urgency! I love the idea that you can't be one of the little dudes for too long, almost like they themselves are the fuel.
like the light of a dying ember, the little dudes too only cling to a final burst of life, before extinguishing. *dramatically blows out candle* xD xD xD
For real tho, so glad you enjoyed!! We deffs did our best to keep the gameplay as smooth as possible while the swarm keeps that urgency high! Rest assured, the jump issues are at the top of our list for post jam fix! :) :)
Thanks for the feedback and for checking out our game!
-Sasha
xDDD I love it! It is still really fun and impressively smooth for just 48 hours! <3
Love the gameplay here, transferring to different ghosts to escape a narrow death is really exhilarating nice work!
Thank you so much for playing!! Glad that exhilaration came across! Always gotta stay one step ahead of the swarm to let the light live on :P

Good game
Cool game! I like the idea of passing on the flame, and the fact that your life is diminishing as you go introduces a cool mechanic of trying to optimize your life span before passing on the flame. My only feedback is the thorns were kinda hard to see, and since the falling leaves were red I thought they were projectiles. Maybe you could highlight the thorns in red and de-emphasize the falling leaves? Just an idea!
Thanks for the feedback!! I totally agree with you about the falling leaves, I didn't anticipate how bright red and dangerous they would look against the background, but at that point it was too late to make them darker... in a future version, perhaps! I would also like to make the thorns a bright red!

the platform colliders having exactly the shape of the sprite kinda ruin the most precise platforming sections. Also the arrow which appears when the flame can be transferred breaks the immersion, which is a shame because this whole ambiance with slimes escaping an unknown force transferring each other a mysterious flame work really well
Great game, awesome idea of passing the torch no matter the cost to yourself. The jumping is a little finicky, but otherwise great job.
Aw thanks so much!! Glad you liked it!! :D
For sure, we'll take care of those finicky jumps as soon as the jam is over!

Lovely art and excellent sound design. A really interesting concept for a game! You could polish this up further by adding a bit more leniency on the ground check for the jump, sometimes you feel like you input isn't quite being registered. A great entry overall :).
Aaaaah so glad you enjoyed the sound design! I was struggling with some serious composers block with this one, probably cuz of the time crunch, but I'm really happy with how the sounds and music turned out in the end.
And great note on the jump thing! That's deffs pretty high on our priority list with post jam fixes!!
Glad you enjoyed!

Concept's really nice, reminds me of tag racing (i think that's what it's called?) where runners have to pass the stick to the next runners. The controls feel nice, the art is great, could use a bit more animations but it's still really nice. I liked this a lot :)
Relay race of the little spirits!!!!
For sure, more animations would be really neat! Mayhaps after the jam! :P
So glad you had fun with this! Thanks for playing!

Hey again! I'll be playing Ember of Life tomorrow on stream along with several other games from the GMTK jam at 3:30pm EST. I hope to see you there for a good chat about design and development!
And I took a peek at the game, thankfully it seems less cursed than your SBIG entry :P
Yesssss! I can’t wait! Unfortunately Gordon Ramsey didn’t seem to have a nice place to fit in this game
- Josh
Don't worry, I used real instruments to make the music this time :P Can't wait for the stream!!
-Sasha
Love the concept and how it was implemented with the art, and damn if it didn't make me feel bad for all those sacrifised ghosts :( So yeah, great job!
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you thought the art delivered on the concept :) Poor ghosts indeed!!
-Kati
What happens to the poor ghosts left behind? D:
They get added to the swarm :)
We meant to make it clearer, but you can see more of the masked figure things the more they get taken
Sorry about that, but thanks for playing!
- Josh
Especially like storytelling in this one. It makes me want to find out more about the characters and their mission.
