Movement was a bit floaty, but I loved the idea that momentum would work against you when trying to grab onto a ledge when you're falling down, have to be really careful with where to go next. Teleporter was glitched at first (just sent me straight down again) but luckily the parts respawned and it worked the second time. RIP Hero <3

The movement is a bit floaty but overall rather smooth, I like that. Jumping from rock to rock is quite fun.

Grabbing onto the ledges didn’t work sometimes, but that wasn’t too big of a deal.

Nice job!

A novel approach to scaling, would like to see how this can be polished further!

Submitted(+1)

I've tried downloading the game but couldn't due to some fonts missing? I won't give a rating to make it fair. I'm sorry about Hero <3.

Developer

How is the font missing, is it not unpacking from the file?  Have you checked the folder called config under the Data folder??  The font times.ttf should be there...

Submitted(+1)

Yea they were missing on my first download. I've tried downloading and unzipping again and it worked, I must've done something wrong on my end the first time! The game is quite fun and the teleporter is cool, only negative is the camera snapping a bit when attaching to the points but it's not that bad. Good job!

Developer

Ok... I was worried that something was wrong with the zip file... It could be Itch's servers, but I could be wrong with that one as well!!

Hi, I’m running into a number of issues on Windows (running in a Sandbox):

  • It complains upon unzipping that some files can’t be unzipped (due to encryption?)
  • It doesn’t start up because “data/config/times.ttf” cannot be found. When I supply my own font at that path, it starts…
  • … However it only gets as far as the tutorial screen (Press W/Up to jump) before spamming me in the console about missing assets and not proceeding further (tried to mash all kinds of buttons).

The error: Failed to load image “data/roomdat/walltemp.png”. Reason: Unable to open file Failed to load image “”. Reason: Unable to open file

The unzipped folder structure: | GMTK2024.exe | GMTK2024.iobj | GMTK2024.ipdb | GMTK2024.pdb | openal32.dll | sfml-audio-2.dll | sfml-graphics-2.dll | sfml-network-2.dll | sfml-system-2.dll | sfml-window-2.dll | -–data | Heroicon.png | Sarahico.png | Thumbs.db | Thumbs.db_encryptable

Some files are not unzipping... Weird... Walltemp is the data file from the whole room loads (at least for the first part of the tutorial), the game defaults to zero and puts in a forever falling state.  However the blank error should be blank since that object is not loaded in, and will load in by the time the top of the mountain is reached.  However, what I'm more curious about is how you still have the console anyway, because that is supposed to hide once the splash screen is loaded.  Some people tried extracting the file again with success, you might want to try that since I didn't encrypt anything.
And the font thing, that's only a check to see if the Data folder exists because I have shipped the game with out it before...  You need those files to run the game since I don't know how to make it all  one file yet...

Developer

Someone else had the same problem as you, Try re-downloading the game I think Itch may be screwing up the download!!

A simple game yet fun.

RIP Hero

Love the idea, camera movement is a little bit choppy and Linux build did not want to start as mentioned below. Windows build worked through Wine just fine.

I really liked the main menu! I'm sorry to hear that about Hero... but the game is simple but great! Well done!

Ran into a couple of issues when I extracted the zip file from the 64 bit windows build, but I ignored them and the game ran fine. Could use a little polish, but I liked the core gameplay mechanic. Wish you had time to add a happy ending for hero, but the game was fun and I enjoyed the short time I spent scaling up the mountains.

F in the chat for Hero

I could not figure out how to teleport, but I liked the general flow of climbing around

I had some issues getting hold of the ledges, but ultimately was able to get off the ground. Here's to Hero <3

Awe. Rest in peace Hero. I bet him and Dipper would have been friends. <3

I'm impressed with the intro and UI! Hero 10/10 good boy, very cute. Fun game, but I would appreciate a "congrats" popup for reaching the top of the mountain.

I was originally planning to have a story added to it where it's about a girl and her dog.  Scaling all the metaphorical turmoils of life but having her dog always there to greet her with a smile and a wag of his tail.  I was going to have a sequence where the dog dies, but she has a dream of one more mountain to climb.  After reaching the top she is greeted with her dog, whom of which she has one more time to interact with him and say goodby.  It would of ended with Hero going through the clouds into fields of green and the girl waking up and knowing he is in a better place.

That's beautiful! I think that game idea would need more than 96 hours of dev time to do it justice, so maybe it would be better as a full release rather than a jam game. Thank you very much for sharing <3

Did not work for me on Linux (Debian 12)  sadly, running "setupandrun game.sh" gives me:

./GMTK2024: error while loading shared libraries: libsfml-graphics.so.2.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Developer

Mmmm, I think I should of shipped the library files with the game...  Or put the command that downloads the SFML libraries from the Respiratory... Sorry, I didn't know and thought the libraries were static

I like the literal interpretation of the theme, it was really clever. I think this game would make an amazing rage game that you can scream at with friends watching you while crossing their fingers lol

Submitted(+1)

The movement feels a little too floaty and the ledge snapping can feel like it doesn't work sometimes. Also the camera did not like when I used the teleporter. But the concept was fun and looking for the pieces was surprisingly fun! I think if the game was more fleshed out it would be really fun!!

Submitted(+1)

Simple concept but lots of fun! The movement is surprisingly good for a game made without an engine too! Visuals could be improved but solid overall!
