Very fun racing game. Had a blast exploring the map
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing :)
what a banger. i really liked this, from the name to the weird controls, this is amazing, so polished and very fun! congrats on the submission :)
thank you so much, we're all very proud of what we put out!
Cool game with really cute graphics! Congrats for your entry :)
Thank you for playing and the kind words! :)
GODOT <3
The game has well-polished physics and controls, offering a challenging yet enjoyable experience. However, some players noted that certain level designs can be frustrating, especially when speed is required but careful maneuvering is also needed. The checkpoint system is appreciated, but the final item's price is considered too high, requiring significant backtracking, which can detract from the overall enjoyment.
5-5-5 Stars <3 Great Job
GODOT!
GODOOOTT HURRAAAA
Unbelievably great game, especially for 3 people in a 4 day game jam! Loved the idea and the level design was really great. The polish too was excellent.
My only real critisism would be the jump, im not a fan of it only activating when letting go, id rather have it be instantanous when you start pressing it. And its probably more taste, but I often got confused (especially in cases where I needed to react quickly not to fall of) where I wanted to go forwards and started reversing of the edge (totally my fault i know XD), I think maybe the control scheme should be a bit different.
I think I would like to have the pullback motor on 'S', the braking on 'Space' and maybe the jump on 'LMB' that way when you want to go forward you dont accidentally reverse. But thats just my taste, its totally fine how it is!
Great game 100%, would love it to be expanded!
Thank you so much, and glad you had fun! We plan on addressing the jump controls, as well as keybinding in our post-jam update. The former is leftover from a charge-up jump that didn't make it off the cutting room floor because we thought that would, rightfully, be too complicated hahaha.
This is amazing. A racing-collectathlon-3D-platformer made in 4 days ? You deserve all the success you will have in the future! My only criticism is that despite I see how the theme has been interpreted, I would say it's not the most original I've seen (but hey, our game Meloman is not better on that regard either). Congrats!
Thank you for the kind words and criticism both! Our hopes were to have deeper car customization to further emphasize the BUILT part of our take on the theme. Unfortunately, since we only had four days, a lot of those ideas never made it off the cutting room floor.
Full stars here, very lucky I noticed the checkpoint tab in the menu cause I was just barely short of reaching my first one 3 times and nearly gave up. After then I 100% it lol overall a great experience and the control scheme is very neat and easy to quickly get acclimated to once you've gotten a couple checkpoints. Honestly the first section where I was learning was the hardest part haha. Very impressed with the level design as well. Overall a great experience.
Only critiques were the bookshelf bottom ledge coins I didn't think you could reach them until halfway through the game where I realized the jump goes higher at higher speeds and even then it's a pretty tight jump for what I'm guessing are easy coins. Also noticed camera freaks out and gets inverted when looking straight down. Was able to do it again to fix it. Also fell so fast down at one point I phased through a box from tower of truth checkpoint lol
Thanks for playing, and congrats on 100%! Your critiques are appreciated, as well. We actually had the camera fixed, but it broke again without us knowing after we implemented the ending "cutscene" at the eleventh hour. It's already on our list for the post-jam update, along with other polishes to make everything feel better. I'll also make sure we do what we can to make the jump more predictable. Cheers!
Thank you -- and I think your criticism is completely valid! Even where like 80% of my personal jam time was spent on the level design, I was still sort of winging it with the assets we had available to us. I'm proud of where we wound up, but I'm also excited to fix it all up for a post-jam update. I think with more time, we can polish what's there to perfection, plus add more to boot!
This game's awesome! I really like the mechanics and it certainly has the "sysyphus" type of game DNA, I would fucking love to see this game have multiple courses to get better at (rather than an open world), once you get better at the mechanics its so satisfying! Genuinely awesome feel
Thank you for all the kind words! Luckily, we had a lot of fun making this, and there's a good chance we'll try for a complete version once the jam is over. :)
Amazing game! The car controller feels amazing to control, the visuals are cute and look great. Level itself is fun to navigate around and I really loved the ramps!
Thanks so much! :)
This was awesome ! Controls are a bit tough to handle at first but clever overall, and there's checkpoints. Physics and collisions are really polished which is cool. Only thing maybe, pricing for the last item is a bit much, once at the top I should have done all the parcour again to get the last coins, which was a bit much even with the checkpoint system, tbh :/ I guess you need the final item to reach the attic ? Great game though, made me spend quite some time exploring
The jet booster isn't required for progression, but it's more of a fun reward for completionists to sandbox around the level. We wanted to find more utility for it, but we ran out of time. We're hoping to give it a little more presence in our post-jam update. Thanks for playing, and glad you enjoyed it!
Oh ok, cool, I thought the boost was requiered to jump to the attic or something. Guess I didn't miss anything then. Good job, i'll have to check the update :)
This is so cute and charming. Just zooming around in the car exploring the level was really nice. I kinda just want normal car controls but with this visual style. Like micro machines but low-poly/pixelart ahah. Awesome job and hope to see it taken further!
Thank you very much, and glad you enjoyed! We'd love to make another game in the future with traditional controls, so we could use a lot of what was made this past weekend :)
VRRRROOOOOOOMMM YOU GUYYS CAPTURED THE GAMEFEEL OF A WIND UP CAR SO WELL!!! IM A HUGE FAN
hehehe glad you liked it! we worked hard on nailing the overall feel including the physics and sfx :)
Like Cave said, a lot of time went into making Torq feel as tight as we could manage! Glad you enjoyed!
Seriously great game!! I think the unique controls added to my enjoyment of the gameplay. Something to work towards and master. The whole team crushed it!
Thank you very much! All of us are very proud :)
Great idea and execution. The car controls are unique for sure, but I would have loved a mode with normal car controls.
Thank you! The jet boosters are sort of the fill-in for normal car controls, but we'd like to find other creative ways to expand on the controls in a future update. Cheers!
The aesthetics and toy car mechanics fit so well together I'm all for it. I loved being able to see the goal at the top and then slowly working my way towards it, was a lot of fun! As someone who's not a fan of Foddian games thank you for the checkpoints :)
You're very welcome, and I'm glad you had fun!
I saw the car and I instantly clicked on this! Straight away the quality of this game is so high.
Loading it up, I instantly got hit with a wave of nostalgia from those old penny racer games on PS2, I absolutely loved Road Trip Adventure as a kid - the music in the garage sounds like that game so much! The premise and style of your game is amazing, the way it is presented to the player is perfect, it was really fun learning the controls.
Despite that I have some feedback for you to improve the game with, I really hope you take this further and make some more levels. This game is awesome!!
Feedback: Not enough control of steering at high speeds, it feels like a punishment for trying to go fast. The car slows down to a stop too fast, like too much rolling resistance, it feels like a punishment for going slow and I have to keep pulling back in small increments to get around new and small areas. Not enough steering control at low speeds, I keep having to stop to go around tight corners (later learnt the hop to turn in place but didn’t really help too much). Braking doesn’t pause the power bar, I don’t have much control over the power delivery. Level design (platforming) wasn't very forgiving at the very very start (the first ramp with the fall behind it) but it was still difficult further on in the game, for example the vertical pad jump and the sofa sideways ramp.
I also encountered a bug where I was able to jump through the window and out of the level.
In conclusion, I absolutely love this game and hope my feedback can help in some way. The art direction and theme is immaculate, congratulations and good luck going forward!
I love this kind of comment. It's really exciting to see that we were able to find an audience that shares the same love of our inspirations, and that our desire to continue development when the jam is over is justified for it. As well, I appreciate such detailed feedback, because even if we couldn't implement and fix everything we hoped to during the jam, it gives us a laser-focused path forward when we update the game in the future. So thanks for what you've added here, and I'm really happy you enjoyed playing it!
Definitely! The path it is on is already fantastic, I'd let the designers take it where they want to take it, but just be aware of the small mechanical aspects that affect player experience. I'd love to play and test it again and again if it does continue development!
I knew someone was bound to recognise it!
Having played both Road Trip Adventure and another Choro-Q game in my childhood, I pushed the team to draw a lot of inspiration from that series -- and yes the music similarities are very much intentional from my part haha :)
Thank you so much for the feedback and kind words! We'll definitely be working on some peoples' sticking points in further updates, so we greatly appreciate the time you took to write out your thoughts in full.
Not a problem, I should get updates if you post any and I'll be sure to jump in and do it again!
Super cool concept and really well executed! Took a bit to get used to the controls but really fun, especially with so much to explore! Well done!
Thanks a lot! We were hoping the more unconventional character controls would feel like something new, but not so much as to turn players off. Glad you had fun!
What a nice take on the concept! Loved the car controls and overall art style. Congrats!
Thank you very much!
I feel like this could be turned into a truly diabolical Foddian game >:)
Very polished entry overall nice game
Thanks! And there's definitely some Foddian DNA in there! We were hoping the checkpoint system and collectathon nature would soften it down into something more accessible that a bigger audience could enjoy.
